I can confirm Yorkshire dislike all Nottinghamshire clubs as the frankly excellent chant of “Scabs” (on repeat) appears makes an appearance all these years laters. It’s really upsetting to hear :dk:

Adam’s right I wish we weren’t crap now! I wish we were good like we were for the majority of the 90s. During my time supporter the club, we’ve swapped F*rest, Derby and Leicester for Mansfield, Chesterfield and Lincoln.:mell:

Depressing  we used to be so good, not anchored to the 4th tier of English Football losing regularly to former Non League outfits

As conker said, Yorkshire hate Mansfield as they lost over the pits. Don't class Doncaster as a rival, though Rotherham certainly were when I started, but we've taken different trajectories over the last decade.

Chesterfield would be the main one, then historically Rotherham and Lincoln, county since they became crap and fell to their true position and possibly at a push Grimsby.

I can't really recall playing Doncaster much, when I was younger I remember them being in non-league for quite a while, and when they came back up that's around the time Mansfield started to take a downward spiral due to Haslam from memory.

You'd have played throughout the majority of the 1990s. Donny were not actually down for that long when you consider the mess they were in. As I was a kid it seemed an age back then but it really want relatively speaking. I remember becoming aware of your rivalry with them in the 03/04 season.
Pre season four four two interview with your fan singled them out as the team you most wanted to beat. Then I also recall the fanzine publications on ceefax, remember them ? Your page, and Donny's for that matter certainly made a big deal out of the fixture. And they both attracted bigger crowds.

I appreciate I have a strange memory. :bye:

The 03/04 season was the season we lost to Huddersfield in the playoff final on penalties when Colin Larkin had a goal disallowed as the ball went out (later showed it didn't) we had a brilliant side that year and (much like this season) we should have gone up automatically. Hull Doncaster and Torquay (going down to the conference south this season!) went up that season.

We may have been rivals in a sense of promotion rivalry but nothing more. Doncaster was an enjoyable day out last season, gorgeous weather, decent away support.

I have no recollection at all of any sort of 'derby/rivalry' feel towards Doncaster, and nor did I get that feeling when we played them last season.

If i remember correctly, violence with Doncaster fans was one of the main reasons why the plod made us swap ends with the away fans.

Rotherham used to be no. 2 rivalry wise when watching us in the 80's and 90's. Some very tasty games against them.

Notts were mainly in a higher league but when they did drop to the 3rd tier they always seemed to well and truly beat us, though they had some good players then.

I remember feeling a little rivalry with Doncaster and Rotherham in the early to mid 2000s but then we didn't play them for ages. In that time they left/lost Belle Vue and Millmoor and moved to better grounds. Both seem to be much bigger clubs now. Perhaps if we were in the same league for a few years it would make a difference.

It was exactly that, they came from 1 down to beat us 2-1 - lee Mcindoe was behind both goals. Kicked off royally

So on top of beating them Saturday, Mansfield fans are now sabotaging their player of the year and voting for their very pointless and very expensive forward, mr o'grady.

Oh it's fun.

But you were way off runaway leaders Donny that season, hardly rivals for the title. But that was some attacking team you had. I remember you putting 5 past us early in the season in a 5-3 victory. We then managed a 3-0 victory at Gigg Lane later in the season. It was probably your achilles heal. However I remember you starting okay the following season and then sacking Curle and replacing him with that deluded idiot Carlton Palmer.

Yeah Haslam got his buddy Palmer in charge while plundering Millions from the club.

I loved it back then, Mansfield were traditionally known to be a excellent attacking team before we got relegated. Couldn’t defend for shit but it was exciting and I’d have it back.

That was the final where the excellent Liam Lawrence tried the little dink penalty down the middle in a play off final, and missed !

They look great when they go in lol

Exactly, but as you mentioned a magazine put us rivals "before" the season. We never did.

Sometimes, as any Chesterfield fan will read, going down to the conference and being that unattractive can actually be your long time savour. Any smart businessman should realise that to take money from a club you need to actually run at a profit - which they aren't and we weren't when we went down. It struck many volumes seeing Chesterfield meekly accept their fate as we did (though our decline was much more gradual than theirs) when you saw them going for their chairman at the end of the game, while you had 2,700 fans chanting "there's only one johnny radford" as he was there with his scarf waving it at us from the box.

The fa - as always - fails badly in its government of the league, and allows this to happen to countless clubs with their "fit and proper test" which ironically wouldn't pass such a name in most other circles.

It was a Mansfield fan interviewed in four four two. I'd wager said fan probably said they wanted to beat Hull and Huddersfield as well though. That was some division that season, shame we were bang average.

Ahh the bonuses of a chairman with evident wealth. We have no idea where or how our losses are being written off or how we stay within the fair play rules. I am very worried we will repeat Chesterfield's double relegation next season after another daft gamble by our chairmanm

He did it in one of the final games of that season v Carlisle but the keeper came off his line and he had to retake it. Pretty sure Thierry Henry did it the week before for Arsenal

I was only 12 in 03/04. Remember it kicking off at Doncaster, Hull and Huddersfield away and Donny and Lincoln at home!

Right, I've had to close 2 threads due to them going off topic and heading, weirdly, to the exact same area. Which is, Lincoln, Mansfield and Notts County fans bickering with each other. So, here is a handy place to stick all your backwards and forward comments about Lincoln's Stoke esq style of play, how the Cowley's are hoofball merchants and how Matt Rhead can't control his elbows. You can also laugh at Mansfield's demise under the hands of David Flitcroft. Or about how Notts County may or may not have lost in the play-offs thanks to the officials.

Should anything else Lincoln, Notts County or Mansfield related pop in, it can go in here too. Anything on the above topics which goes elsewhere will be directed into here.

Sorry, am I missing something here? You have closed threads because they have gone off topic. I appreciate you are a moderator, but surely your job is to make sure people don’t abuse each other etc. What is the issue with going off topic? When you go down the pub and talk with your mates do you insist on only one topic or do you you sometimes talk about something else?
As I say, maybe I am missing something but it seems very big brother when people are just having some banter. If they take it off topic is that not their choice?

I’d forgot this thread even existed, yes I agree match threads are for match banter.

Started by a Chesterfield fan too.

Without the vocal East Mids contributors the L2 forum would be a pretty dull place.

Personally I don’t mind supporters of non play off sides commenting on play off games, as long as the comments are a certain standard. Only a couple dipped below.

Maybe if other clubs had fans that’s posted or contributed or clubs that have had alright seasons then maybe it wouldn’t always go that way.

I’ve just had a read through both locked threads expecting some pretty bad stuff on there and there is fuck all, nothing abusive just general chatting, and so what if it goes a bit off topic, most threads do at some point. Ridiculous to lock them, power mad mod.

I wrote on one of them, only to discover my wise words of wisdom would not appear as the thread was locked, annoying.
