I'd be delighted with an average of 4,000 this season.

No doubt away attendances will increase as well, whereas we've lost Doncaster and Portsmouth we've gained Chesterfield Coventry and Lincoln - home fans attended should be up as well.

The club lost a generation of fans on Haslam, my opinion of that doesn't change / were slowly rebuilding and radford is doing a great job - we were something like 700 up on last seasons total for season tickets already - ahout 2500 last time there was a number given out (I think).

Not that the conversation is about that but I bet there's a high chance that Lincoln county Chesterfield and Grimsby all average more than us, problem being is they probably won't be as good as us:lol:.

In reality, it's good to see all clubs doing well in this neck of the woods, for years Lincoln Mansfield and Grimsby were all conference, county were shit in general, so it's pleasing

I think Chesterfield can be a bit of a commuter belt for Sheffield, Derby, Nottingham areas as well because of good motorway links. You've just got an easily accessible bypass and you're on the M1. Mansfield, whilst being small and reasonably close to the motorway as the crow flies, has bad motorway links and the main roads in general are awkward to drive and busy. That might skew the salary median a bit.

I know this only because my missus works in the regeneration sector I hasten to add

Good point.

I wonder:

  • Are those picking up better wages moving into the area with no affinity to Chesterfield, or are they local residents with a potential affinity to the football club that are reaping the benefits of better transport links?
  • If there are commuters moving in then how many of them are there?
  • Are those watching the games representative of the community as a whole?
  • How expensive is football in Chesterfield relative to Mansfield?
Without digging too deep into the statistics and without surveying the whole thing more fully, I think we can just agree from observation (e.g. the business of Chesterfield market, the quality of housing in Chesterfield) that Chesterfield is in general wealthier and this must at least factor into the better support.

Also, I have heard of people going to Chesterfield for a day out. I have never heard of someone going to Mansfield for the same thing.

I'm not sure about those questions, but when you look around yourself in the concourse it doesn't scream 'wealth', me included . Could be to do with me going with the salt of the earth in the kop end

It was an embarrassment, radford wouldn't ever do that, infact I don't think the police now would either.

Basically, Haslam was the cheating, financially corrupt, dodgy tax dodging set up that you've got now.

Uncle Dave's took us off the market for now... Maybe he's took an interest once again? Who knows

I'd just like to point out that our average attendance last season was higher than Lincoln's, Mansfield's and Grimsby's even though it was one of our worst seasons in the clubs history...

Also, I would like to point out that you guys get relegated from League One about 2/3 times every decade so it really wasn't one of your worst seasons ever.

Remember 01 and the points deduction. Should never have been allowed up that year. For me Chesterfield have always lived beyond their means, something dodgey always going on at that club

This thread has already turned into the car crash that I expected it would.

If you look at everything that happened off the field then maybe you'd realise that it was one of our worst seasons ever...

Oh and if you want to start talking about away attendances, look at our figures from the last time we were in this league...you'll be impressed

Was it more embarrassing than Mansfield fans giving their MOTM award to John Radford in one game?

You didn't see the team we had out that day.
We probably did at some point under Holdsworth!

Holdsworth and his 'dossier' of Adam Smith, Tyrone Thompson, Gary Mills, Mark McCammon, Luke Daley, Nialle Rodney etc. I'm glad I can look back now and smile because at the time, I certainly couldn't...

We used to have two signings a week. I shudder at some of those names now.

That was basically our starting 11... Tyrone Thompson is the worst footballer I've ever seen and he represented us at WEMBLEY! We had Lee Gregory but we played him twice... Classic crap mansfield.

I think an appropriate chant for us would be "were crap and we know we are" but with the fat man in charge and some of his signings, we might be able to cheer about something positive for the first time in my life. I know were favourites but I think we will only just sneak into the playoffs and maybe do it that way, I cant see Evans wanting to stay if he doesn't get us up this year but then would anyone else want him? Luckily I don't live in the awful place but I do have to support the stags.

Chesterfield are historically the better club but football is all about the present. So this year should see some cracking local derbies that I cant wait for!

Mirf has probably scored more goals in the last 3 years than him to be fair.

I doubt that as its difficult to score goals when you're in the treatment room more than what you're actually getting paid to do by being on the pitch!:dk:
