What would Carlisle fans be like if they had 3 years in a row like Southend have had? Relentless misery for us.

We are starting to look like a very poor man's Fulham. We look decent in most games (albeit annoyingly shambolic twice v Port Vale) but cannot score and cannot win.

You'll find a way out of it like most do and start spending money you don't have again to get a promotion out of it.

We've not seen a promotion for 14 years, 14 frigging years!

I the past 15 seasons including this one do you know what our highest league finish was?

14th in League 2.

When it comes to bring abject failures year after year no other team even comes close.

I thought our last three seasons had been bad, we've picked up a combined 125 points.

Southend have only picked up 96 that is misery to be fair.

Not convinced we will. We’ve been so bad for months, cant get big players fit, we either play well but lose to a sickener like last weekend or we made colossal errors like today to throw the game away.

It’s a huge worry, only hope is we take some confidence with the last ten minutes in terms of mentality. Rodney should be out wide and Swan and Hurst getting their first EFL goals.

Cheltenham get gifted the opener and a bit like Salford game we lose it for 5 minutes, sadly Mills balls up and they get a second.

Goal from the corner was as bad as the first... all them bodies in there to defend it, no ones on the penalty spot to defend that, their lad makes a complete scuff of it but as is our luck it bounces in off the bar.

Overall I’m embarrassed of the club at the moment, the league is so so poor, we’ve seen three of the top sides and none have looked special, we beat most of them start of the season yet we have what 15 points in 23 games? In a league this bad? It’s an absolute embarrassment. 141 years of history this has to be as bad as it has ever been.
How is Rodney doing? Big fan favourite at Halifax in the last season or 2

Every week I keep expecting Grimsby to get on a run. Every week they don't. Question is would you keep Hurst if you went down? Given he got you into the league

At least you’re still going to be in the Football League next season!

He’s done well overall. Still very raw though and makes some questionable decisions at times but equally as capable of something spectacular.

I do think he needs a rest though soon as does look things are catching up with him a bit now. Just a shame the other options are utter garbage or might well have done so already.

Agree, he’s a rough diamond but one capable of going onto better if he develops but looks knackered at the moment, although does seem better off the wing than up front.

Some stupid stat apparently that his 9 goals are from 12 shots on target so usually when he gets a shot on target it’s in the net... mostly from range of course.

Should do well in the National League for us I’d think.

Oooh you don't want to come down here. It's very very tough to escape again. Very rare someone comes down and goes straight back up again. He would be great in the National league.

I would definitely keep him as he knows what that league is all about and I’m confident that eventually he would build us a side that would compete neat the top of it.
Given some of his baffling substitutions though I doubt all Grimsby fans would agree with me.

Vale reminding me a bit of us (Notts) a couple of years ago. Similar sized club, one of the pre-season favourites, tonnes of pre-season optimism, yet it’s all gone horribly wrong, for one reason and another. Seemingly decent squad just failing to cut it and just not looking like it can win games.

Hope I’m wrong, for Vale’s sake. At least you aren’t playing catch-up, like we were, and it is still very much in your own hands, for better or worse...

Whoever Grimsby have on the last day can take comfort from the fact no fans are allowed in the ground, so they don’t have to witness a pitch invasion and smashing the toilets up like last time it happened....

It’s pretty much what I’d compare our situation to, that of County, I even mentioned it in caution pre season that it can happen.

We are currently in a similar points position to the two other battles at this end of the league two table 2 and 3 years back, we had a kick start around game 36 last time so need that again.

It’s hard to put a finger on what’s changed, it’s not one thing but many. Average 1.9PPG up until November then drop off like we have is stunning in terms of change.

Injuries have killed us and to key players this season, bad luck maybe poor off field situations more the reason though and looks like Clarke has made changes to that to try and solve the ridiculous injury list we have had this season and going back further than that. We can’t get players back and keep them fit so clearly issues there. A new fitness coach and physio was at Cheltenham yesterday (one a Cheltenham legend).

Recruitment, it looked good on paper in the summer but clearly hasn’t been, the wrong type, a huge squad with players out the registered 22, Clarke isn’t happy with it... as he says it’s set up to play one system (4-3-3) and we have about 7 central midfielders but only one which is defensive! We buggered about trying to sign Nicky Maynard which meant we stalled on Jamile Matt who would have been perfect for how we set up... ended up with Theo Robinson who isn’t. We’ve got four or five high earning strikers but surely put that money into two very good ones would make more sense? Why have five strikers for a system we only use one in?

Off field issues - clearly after Kings Lynn it went sour off the field, why who knows but the Brown interview Friday pretty much confirms it, ended up with players like McKirdy and Clarke booted out, Legge left out for weeks... rumours galore of various fall outs and the Xmas performance levels were disgracefully short of what we expect culminating in Mansfield Away and the nail in Askeys coffin.

Too long to sort the management - waiting until just after the window shuts so no time to resolve the issues Clarke needs. Then off field set up now is great and probably will be one of the best in non league but pointless by then.

Form of key players... Scott Brown is Mr reliable usually but look at the error yesterday, same against Walsall, Orient and Tranmere at home when he got done on his near post.

Tom Conlon.... spent the last day of the window praying no one came in for him... been garbage since after his superb form... oddly since getting the captaincy.

Devante Rodney... rough diamond on his day unplayable, scores stunners can murder defenders with stunning pace but he looks knackered... can’t rest him as we have no wingers fit or anyone with any pace.

Previously we could look to poor ownership and lack of money but no excuse now. If we go down... and we might it will be one almighty failure for this football club that’s inexcusable.

I think Man City have as many wins on their current run as we do in the last three seasons including this
I was going to hit the like button for this but how can any football fan like that ! ?

I remember my team being nearly this crap (years ago) and I feel your pain.

Same here. Between February 2013 and May 2015 Tranmere averaged less than a point a game and went from 1st in League 1 to 24th in League 2. Shit happens. We got over it and strangely the attendances never went down but up during that run.

I did hit the like button in empathy, feel your pain because of the recent TRFC history Robshep sets out above.

Life is much more interesting supporting a club at our level. Its great listening to Liverpool fans at the moment moaning about their current home run. They haven't got a clue. They're like a spoilt fat kid who hasn't had a bag of sweets for an hour. No sympathy from me.

Absolutely hate the prem viewpoint. Newcastle fans claiming they've had it the worst in recent years, while they watch prem football week in week out. Arsenal fans another who like to make the claim as they're no longer winning titles.

I'm a lapsed Newcastle fan (went to the Reebok a fair few times back in the early days), but not interested at all anymore, barely even have a clue where they are in the table. The fans have it shit - the aim has been to finish 17th every season for over a decade, rendering every match almost like a friendly. And when they do get relegated, the aim is to get back to being 17th in the Prem.
And the cups are just games that get in the way of that quest. It's fucking futile.

With Barrow in that time, we've been relegated, nearly relegated to the Unibond, and look to be relegated again, but at least it's interesting.

But it's just about expectations, they've finished 13th or above in 6/10 the last seasons, also won the championship. So they have both the up and downs, and some stability. They also got Rafa in and have paid reasonable money on some players.

It doesn't even compare to the troubles some lower league clubs have had.
