They finished 16th, worst finish since 1959 (or if we're being charitable, since they finished 15th out of 22 teams in 1965/66) and face a 16th consecutive season in the second tier.

Just been wondering, are they such a big club even for the Championship? They achieved their biggest successes thanks to being blessed with two of the best English managers but apart from that they've been pretty mediocre, a brief stint of glory during the turn of the millennium aside (under George Burley, a Robson protégé). I like Ipswich and want to see them re-establish themselves in the top flight but they seem stuck in a right rut without the resources to pull themselves out of it. Still, if Southampton, Stoke never mind Swansea can do it why can't they?

I don't think there's any questioning whether we're a big club in the championship or not. Of course we are. Yes we've not done much of late but how many clubs haven't been relegated out of the top 2 divisions for 60 years? Not many! (Chelsea, Tottenham, Liverpool, Manchester United, Arsenal, Everton, West Ham, Newcastle and Ipswich to precise)

We currently hold (I know there was one team to beat it but then lost a few games later) the longest unbeaten home run in Europe (inc inter Milan in the early 2000) and in fact have never lost at home in over 30 European games.

How many clubs could hold an average over 16000 after 16 years of mediocrity in the second tier? Add to that the fact we pay one of the dearest ticket prices and served up with the crap we do watch!

Frankly it's quite amusing a fan of a team like Watford can question the size of us when they struck lucky as an Italian B team and struck lucky that they hit the premiership when money became vital.

Our owner is a fraud admittedly, the 167th richest in the country revealed today, yet funds us on the bare minimum and it shows. Portman road is looking rather tired of late.

Rant over.

Well I guess we were a bit lucky in that the players brought actually on the main were decent enough to get up...eventually!

Look at Charlton when they had a Pozzo type take over...

You are the most bang on average side in the division, like in a pub quiz you had to name all 24 teams in the Championship Ipswich would be the one team you couldn't remember the name of.

We're notable/memorable for being here so long. You're probably right about being the most average thoughm

Ah, I remember our last d-day for survival, it went something like this:

What a day (and night) that was. Think I went down 10 rows at the Brit when Hugo banged that header in. We were going down at half time with Wolves.

Welcome to the Oldham Athletic sponsored League One, Rovers.

Please enjoy your stay.

No offence but knowing you have an away fixture at Oldham Athletic is probably the most depressing thing about relegation to League 1.

Actually, Bury or Rochdale could be worse...

Hardly anything to celebrate really. Yes you stayed up on the last day but you fell from just outside the play offs to staying up - just:
A might sigh of relief I would say.

I'm glad you stayed up, whilst it would have been hilarious if you did go down, I would miss having our local games vs Small Heath Alliance.

Absolutely distraught after today. No doubt Preston fans, and to somehow a lesser extent Burnley fans, will be celebrating our demise; just remember, you're only one bad owner off falling the same way. Gloating will always come back to haunt you. Hopefully we'll come back up straight away but we're more likely to drop further than to be promoted.

Venky's Out.

To be fair, most of my lifetime you have been in a higher division than both Preston and Burnley and no doubt spent most of that time lauding it up. It's their turn.

Bit like us with Millwall and Palace, we spent 8 years in the Premier League rubbing it in. Now we're the laughing stock of South London. Just the way it is.

You want to try and spend 20 years in League 1.

Now THAT is depressing.

I'm good. Looking forward to yet another season playing fucking Walsall.
You leave Walsall alone, they're the true longest serving (granted, you've spent longer consecutively) third division team around, you lot are fakers!

Quite the opposite for me, when I think of the Championship I think of Ipswich. It'd be really weird for them to be anywhere else

Still us... One goal from relegation, only survived because Bristol City were on holiday. Behave yourself.
It has been over 20 years since Villa experienced the joy and euphoria that comes from being victorious at Wembley, winning in Europe, playoff success, last day survival/promotion, etc. Just year after year of nothingness with Villa.

Feel sorry for Rovers fans. What they have had to put up with since the Venkys have come in is pretty bad.

I also feel sorry for the Forest fans in a way. Having to deal with Hasawi, and the now even more crooked owner is not an enticing prospect. Worst that Hasawi will still basically continue to play football manager in real life.

Too many clubs are run horrifically. Its amazing how much money is in football, yet how poorly and unprofessionally so many of them are managed

Don't tell the Preston fans, they believe it's just "natural decline" :animatedf:

I couldn't agree more, but, were they in a slightly false position with the historical investment by uncle Jack? I still agree that the Venky's are killing Blackburn rovers and I wish the club well plus a swift return but I can't see it under their current ownership WTGR to them.
