Matchday 36
Aston Villa 1-0 West Ham
Newcastle 1-1 West Brom
Leicester 2-0 Southampton
Hull City 0-1 Burnley
Everton 0-2 Sunderland
Manchester City v QPR

Table:
14.Aston Villa 38 pts -20
15.Leicester 37 pts -13
16.Sunderland 36 pts -20 (-1)
17.Newcastle 36 pts -24
18.Hull City 34 pts -16
19.Burnley 29 pts -26
20.QPR 27 pts -22

Run-in:
Aston Villa: Southampton (a), Burnley (h).
Leicester: Sunderland (a), QPR (h).
Sunderland: Leicester (h), Arsenal (a), Chelsea (a).
Newcastle: QPR (a), West Ham (h).
Hull City: Tottenham (a), Man Utd (h).
Burnley: Stoke (h), Aston Villa (a).
QPR: Man City (a), Newcastle (h), Leicester (a).

Bad defeat for Hull as they face now Spurs and Man Utd in the final two games. Quite a testing run-in for Sunderland as well but they now have their destiny in their own hands and will continue if they beat Leicester next week.
Burnley are relegated and will most likely be joined by QPR tomorrow who need to win in order to not be declared relegated for another week.

Great stuff!

With our recent poor form home and away against Hull i am not looking forward to it either.Still a chance they could stay up though.

Hull can still get out of this. Spurs have only won once in the last 6, they seem to be doing everything they can to avoid the Europa league, it's almost worse than having nothing to play for.
A Hull win and a Leicester win and we could have a final day that pits Newcastle against Sunderland for that 18th place!

Hull bit unlucky with the Dawson incident but they didn't help themselves losing concentration from the corner.

Hull can definitely win one of those 1-0 games that Spurs always suffer at home. And they can beat United too as they will have nothing to play for.

If Liverpool win at Chelsea, with Man Utd having a tough game against Arsenal they could be looking to secure a Champions League place on the last day.

Anyway since when did not having anything to play for affect United's performances against the numerous teams they've sent down/denied a place in Europe on the last day? And despite Spurs' vulnerability at home, I highly doubt that Hull can get a win there if they can't even get a point at home to Burnley.

Disappointing to finally have it confirmed, but this was always the likely outcome.

This year we've very much acted like a Championship team making the most of their moment in the spotlight, as opposed to a team looking to build and establish themselves in the Premiership. Not surprising really given our size and stature as a club, but we never really gave ourselves a chance of surviving.

As I said in the match day thread, at least this means we might be able to win a few games next year.

Do you think the long term plan is to try and attempt to establish Burnley in the top flight or are the board seeing this as a one off event, putting the club on a sound financial footing and going back to being a top Championship side?

To a certain degree, both.

I think our board recognised that it would be difficult for us to compete in the top league this season, and relegation was always a likely outcome. Therefore it made sense to treat this as an opportunity to secure the future of the club, rather than spend large sums of money on transfer fees/wages that might jeapordise our long-term stability.

Having said that, I'm sure the club is hopeful that this year's experience will stand us in good stead for making a more successful attempt to establish ourselves in the near future. It depends on how much of our squad we can keep together and whether or not Sean Dyche decides to move on. I don't think anyone could blame him if he did.

Overall I've been happy with the way in which we've approached the season. Obviously better results would have been nice, and you might argue that we could have been a bit more adventurous in the transfer market, but only a few years ago we were in serious trouble and to know the club is on a sound financial footing is definitely reassuring. If we're ever going to establish ourselves as a Premier League team it'll be a relatively long and patient and process - our approach this season reflects that.

Whilst I would love Sunderland to go down, I'm going to stick with my wacky prediction that Leicester will drop. Don't want it to happen but i still think it might.

Definitely possible but it realistically takes Hull getting 4 points from 2 games vs Spurs and Man Utd with us getting nothing from Sunderland and QPR.

It's possible they could overtake us with just 3 points, but then it goes to GD with us at present having a slight advantage which might be wiped out if the scenario of us losing both and them winning 1 might conjure. But it would also take Newcastle getting more than a point from their remaining fixtures as well.

Odds on us going down are 35/1 so if you fancy it, it's worthy of a dabble.

Even Newcastle will get something against West Ham next week to send Hull down.

Remember Phil Brown singing the last time Hull played Man U on the final day when they survived at the expense of Newcastle..

Think it will only be tears this time.

I'm hoping for a Hull win and Newcastle to go down - I got nothing against their fans but Mike Ashley is a right c***. They're essentially Blackpool with more money and status. A laughing stock really.

Must be abit of a toughie in a way for Hull fans, well the die-hard ones. While no one likes relegation it may leave them getting shot of their owners ideas of changing the club to his own, but at same time the risks with him now throwing his toys out pram and not investing anymore could be disastrous if they also then go down and lose the financial gains of top flight on top of said owner not spending.

on flip side Newcastle may get shot of Ashley finally if they go down, but financially could be b*ggered also if they drop.

makes pros and negatives for both but I don't see either back quickly if they drop.

do Sunderland fans want Newcastle to survive or drop?
