Bingham really struggling in his opener against Carter. Facing a 4-1 deceit in the first session. Looks like he has all season - struggling to deal with the expectation.

Well he managed to find something from somewhere to come out 5-4 going in to tonight. Timely 96 and 83 breaks. The first noteworthy breaks of the match really.

Shame. Never been a fan of Carter, but like Bingham a lot.

Murphy involved in a battle with Anthony McGill.

McGill leads 8-7 and has played superbly this morning. Just handed Murphy a lifeline though by missing a simple pink.

Murphy out now. Both finalists from last year gone before Robertson, Ronnie, Selby et al have even potted a ball.

First three gone are all former World Champions. I almost had a couple of quid on Murphy too.

May as well give it to O'Sullivan now.

Maguire out again. The bloke's a fraud really, never realised his potential. Was the next Ronnie apparently.

No harm in staying on if you're enjoying it.
I partly agree with that. But it can get to the point where a player ends up being remembered for his performances as he's fizzling out rather than his heyday. Hendry retired at just the right time, despite being the best payer ever in my view. Davis has left it too long. White definitely has.

The difference being, Hendry was all about winning. I think (obviously don't know) that Davis enjoys the game a lot more than Hendry ever did.

It is a shame to see these players fizzle out but I can forgive them. It's different in an individual sport than in a team game.

Anyway, Mark Williams looking strong and Graeme Dott on his way out.

Thorne is a patronising twat, which is amazing considering how shite he was. McGill took a shot on a red and as it was on the way he instantly started rambling away "he's missed it, he's missed it". Ball ends up in the pocket. "How on earth has that gone in, we don't know and nobody else here does". Every year he is on embarrassing himself and second guessing what is going to happen then saying "oh, well I wouldn't have played it that way". He's the snooker equivalent of Andrew Castle.

He annoys the fuck out of me, in case you haven't noticed.

I couldn't agree more.

I also hate the way he talks about a frame being key saying something like "I know it's a best of 19 bit if he wins this, he's 3-3, if he loses it's 4-2 and it's a big ask to come back from that".

I don't necessarily think only the top players should commentate but he does wind me up with his criticisms considering how mediocre he was at a time when the sport was no where near as competitive as it is now.

Long term gains.
''If you can't pot balls you'll never be able to play this game''.

Another gem this morning.

Ronnie ahead 8-5 against Gilbert. Gilbert has played extremely well though. Unfortunate to be 8-5 down with a pot success of 94%

Gilbert has played fantastically really. Against anyone else and he'd have a healthy lead.

I see Mr "I only agreed to take a bung because I feared for my safety" Higgins is playing. Here's hoping he loses.
