I really wish someone in the media would have the bottle to call him on that comment.

I think he's tried to cover himself by claiming Liverpool will challenge for the title next year. You can't help but chuckle at how Liverpool that is.

Not as bad as Phil Neville before Man Utd made their signings this season saying Man Utd would win the league this year! :fl:

I'd rather have Rodgers come out with the things he does anyway, at least he's honest and open about his opinions and knows what the fans and owners expect of him.

Rodgers being completely honest by saying Spurs should be competing for the title spending money, yet disregarding that when he did exactly the same.

I'm not saying LVG has done well.

LVG has had to try build a good attacking team that retains possession while having a non existent back 4 unit. This has hindered our game going forward and that's easy to see. Manchester United are known for the 442, world class strikers with wingers bombing down the flanks and cutting in. But because we don't have a Vidic, a Rio, a Terry, a Kompany we've had to stick 3 at the back with wingers playing as wing backs. Our defence has been so frail at times we've had to play the likes of Carrick, Young and Valencia in defence. Take a moment to honestly consider that.

People can scream formations all they like, it's the philosophy that is the foundation to a team's gameplay and we've become so defensively minded for obvious reasons. After a class CB or two, maybe a winger we'll be rocking. I gots tha faith in LVG. :box:

Still amuses me that people take what football managers say at face value.

Chelsea will end up winning by a country mile. It'll be a tight finish for second, with ManCity just making it against a very strong Arsenal challenge. Southampton will win the fight with ManUtd, Spurs & Liverpool for fourth, just through their better defensive shape and solidity.

I'd definitely take third. No CL qualifier to play, after our worst ever start over Wenger.

There really should be a go at the title next season, though. No excuses anymore, we've got the money.

Agreed on both accounts. Really should have gone into this season with a stronger squad, it was an unnecessary gamble relying on only Chambers as back-up and sticking with Arteta and Flamini in the middle. There was a chance for us this season to improve and it's frustrating that we haven't taken it.

Injuries haven't helped (as per usual), however neither did shunting Ozil outwide in 4-1-4-1 at the start of the season. Last year when Ramsey, Ozil and Walcott were out we were crying out for those three in the 4-2-3-1 formation and to ignore it when 2 out 3 were fit had it's impact on our poor start.

We really do need to try and avoid the qualifiers and the players should be motivated enough to go for that even if 4th becomes a certainty and 1st/2nd impossible.

I'd say Arsenal should compete for the title next season if they sign a new DM. I love Arteta but he's not the long term answer. I like Flamini too, and while he adds balance to the midfield there are better players around than him to do that job and more

Arsenal just about have the squad and can get the big players easily enough, they really should have been challenging this season tbh.

Arsenal could have the best squad by miles and still wouldn't win the title.

This is really hotting up now. The top 2 drew against each other while the rest of the top 7 all won before Southampton's game against Swansea. I can see the Saints pulling out of the race. It can go very, very fast now and I reckon like most that 3rd and 4th will be for Man Utd and Arsenal (in that order) but Liverpool and Spurs will contest that till the very end. The game between the two of them in 10 days is massive. Loser will probably play in the EL next season.

Everything about today's match is why we won't be finishing in the top 4. Top 6 will be a successful season for us anyway and looks a lot more achieveable.

If there's anything last season taught me it's that it's not over until the last kick of the season. Cliche, i know, but still.

If we beat them we'll be 1 point ahead of them (assuming we both win our games between now and then). Hardly a huge gap.

Well that's the title done and dusted today.

City will be second probably and then it's a fight to the end for the other 2 places really. Southampton just aren't going away, the resumption of European competition is likely to play into United and Saints hands.

We got lucky as fuck at the end of our game but it's a massive 3 points. We weren't at our best today.

I'm retracting my comment about us getting lucky as fuck, clear foul on Fonte from Austin along with a QPR player offside.

Three points now covering third (So'ton) to seventh (Liverpool) now; can anyone really call who is going to get the last three spots now? I say three as City are looking pretty poor currently and really have to pick it up once Toure and Bony arrive back from the AfCon. So'ton's goal difference is very impressive also and could be worth an extra point between them Spurs and Liverpool.

Arsenal have too much quality to not get a spot in that top 4...They might even get close to city if they get a run going and City continue this poor run of form. I'm not quite sure why I've picked Utd for that last spot....I think maybe they just have the characters in the dressing room to scrape the results together.

It's all up for grabs though....it's going to be down to who can get a run going...it'd be great to see Spurs and Southampton get them just to see what affect it would have on the other clubs, would Wenger step down?....would Van Gaal get as much stick as Moyes did?.... Would Brendan Rodgers future become uncertain?

Didn't know where to post this, also not sure if it's entirely true:

"Liverpool have only lost 4 league games in 3 years after January the 1st under Rodgers. "

Seems about right. You've had very good second half of seasons since he came in. The year before your title challenge you only lost one I think.
