Tricky one but hopefully get the new era at Vale Park off to a positive start after a decent performance last week.

Would like to see us go for the jugular a bit and go with Pope and Cullen up front together but Askey loves his 4-3-3 too much.

If we can repeat the first 25 minutes at Colchester for longer then we should fancy ourselves. Northampton won’t be as poor as they were last season against us, all be it a superb effort with ten men from us to turn a game around that looked lost.

Need a better home form this time around, Askey shown signs last season of improving it with the high press aside from the dead rubbers at the end.

2-0 Popey and Amoo.

Always look forward to the opening home game and generally do ok.
Hopefully Northampton will take a while to gel, though it looks like a smash and grab by Walsall last week.
I'll tentatively go for a 1-1 so in 3 posts all 3 outcomes have been predicted.

Keeps a nice balance and friendly thread.

The weather forecast isn't great, but I cant see any issues. I think we can get a win here, and I'm hoping that Cullen gets a run out. I'm going for a 2-1 in a close game.

I can see a draw coming here. Until Warburton gets up to speed as a league player we are hugely reliant on Nicky Adams to create anything. Will be interesting to see if Curle goes to a back 3 at some point as it seems like its his favoured formation, but stuck with a 4-2-3-1 in week 1.

Ill say 1-1 with Pope and Smith scoring.

My cousins a Vale fan (unfortunately) and he's somehow roped me into coming to the match followed by a night out after.

Not really fussed on who wins, just want to see some goals. Will go for a 2-2 draw with Pope getting a double for Vale.

Decent performance last week without the chances being converted, early season, relatively close but it's Port Vale. Might be optimistic for 700 but we never know.
I'll be there, hopefully they don't try and cram us into a space that wasn't 'comfortable' like last season.

To be fair the leg room at Northampton is appalling in the away end but this is a new Port Vale now thats actually ran properly so should be a better experience.

Chris Eubanks engineering and architect degrees tells me our 4500 capacity away stand holds more than your matchbox stands put together. Chris Eubank suggests you don't throw stones about being crammed in anywhere.

I know your away end capacity, however last season we were crammed into a centre segment without any flexibility from the stewards to spread out a bit, almost as if they weren't expecting as many as we had (we only had 429!!)
I mentioned it on here at the time.

Be a tough challenge against a team I reckon will be a playoff contender. That said I think we may just sneak the win in a close game. Worrall caused them no end of trouble last year at their place and think he will be the difference maker again this time.

I've been helping out with the ground this summer. Painting and washing seats !!
They have cordoned vast areas of the away end off with netting as you will see.
Approx the first 5 rows are netted off and also the two end blocks .
So in effect you may well feel kettled in but at least you won't have bird shit on your seat after my hard graft

I notice the Autonet stand as the away is now even has newly painted roofing! Does this extend to all the stands with the darker grey? Looks smart.

Well done with the work over the summer at the club too Darren. Finally a club all pulling together. Million miles away from last season.

'Kettled', that was the word I was looking for. Not good for the older members of our support. It wouldn't surprise me that some may have been put off by their experience from last season.
I know that ours isn't great but at least you have a bit of width to play with at our place, for those with different viewing requirements. Whereas it was almost like being crammed between the lifeguard flags on a beach when there are miles of beach/sea either side that you can't swim in or use. (I assume that the wide areas aren't dangerous?)
Well done for your close season work. Any influence to widen our area would be appreciated.

From what I gather from working up there and I know the new stadium manager they are likely to be using the middle blocks all season.
Because Bradford is now a night game and big chance Plymouth is moved due to a clash with Stoke they reckon depending on league position that only Mansfield and Oldham are likely to bring over 1000 .
Crewe also in that category.
Sadly because of costs etc you will all be crammed in the middle bit so the stewards can keep everyone cuddled together .
Not ideal but standard away fan treatment.
I'll say that I can't recall being crammed at Northampton in March though was stood for a lot of it because it was actually a rarity.... exciting .

VF16 , only the away stand has been painted. All gangways in the ground are newly painted and loads behind the scenes like media areas .
For want of a better phrase it was a dilapidated shithole that hadn't been touched in years.
There was birdshit on seats that needed a chisel , hadn't been cleaned or touched in 20 years so not all down to the Fat one

I think we'll have about 6000 home fans there tomorrow which is pretty big for us. I can see us starting quickly with this backing and leading on from last week, and I hope we can turn that early start into a lead.

I'm expecting Cobblers to be a decent outfit although I'm not convinced they're much better than us quality wise.

Hoping for a win, but in reality anything other than a defeat is fine with me at this point.

Oldham rarely bring 1000 to us if ever! Mansfield and Crewe will be the only likely ones and even Crewe you never know.

It will take time but the media centre and gym look a different level to the past! Has Tommys/Vale Social been touched? At least I wont have to check the sheet to avoid birdshit on my arse this time... small things but makes a huge difference when put together.

Tommy's has completely been gutted and also a new roof. Been skips outside for weeks and decorators vans.
I only drink in Burslem and never buy refreshments as usually have my dinner at home beforehand.
Now we know all money doesn't get trousered I might be more inclined to buy stuff

I'd hope for 6k home fans, many seem to be coming back and we have 4000 plus ST holders so with first game additions should be a decent crowd, Cobblers seem to bring half decent numbers on a Saturday too.

No-one has mentioned it apart from I saw Carol had called someone to advise they were closing it over the summer, will have a gander tomorrow for my pre-match pint/medication to get through the 90!

Been snakelike queues all day for Salford tickets .
Queues not seen like that in years due to the malaise .
Feel good factor is definitely back, tempered with realistic expectations

Hope Chris Lines doesn't get booed. Much underrated player at Vale due to his laid back style.
That cheating twat Dele Alli led to his downfall at Vale with his rolling around and diving when Lines blew on him and got him sent off
He was a very good player for us but never appreciated

Was there that day, went down like he had been shot!

Linesy was ok but I expected more from him, that said we had a decent season with him in L1... I was more disappointed having him and Occy in midfield together didnt work out as well as it should.
