Looks like this could be an alright game Saturday.

Carlisle up in 2nd having lost just one game, though supposedly on a bit of a patchy run of form (according to some Carlisle fans on here), and with us having won 2 games in a row under Steve Evans, though both at home.

Will be easily our toughest test under the new manager, though Blackpool played well last night, and will be interesting to see how we set up - Evans appears to have a decently attacking philosophy, and players like McGuire and Clements - who both struggled under Murray have had good games since he took over.

Carlisle score a few, so will be interesting to see how we try to contain them.

Carlisle fans - wheres the good places for a pint? up on the Friday evening about 5 so any shouts would be appreciated :)

I think it'll be a good game this weekend, Evans' reign has started brightly and I wouldn't be surprised to see Mansfield sneak a play off spot. I'm sure Evans will be given some kind words from the paddock throughout...

Sounds like we played pretty well last night, hopefully that continues onto Saturday. There's a slim chance we'll be top of the table after this weekend but as long as we win I'll be happy.

Regarding pubs/clubs, there's quite a few in the town centre, minutes from the train station.

3-1

So we're up against another team with a new manager who has got some good form out of them.

Our next run in of games look fairly tough so I wouldn't expect any easy wins from us!

We are unbeaten in England and I'm deciding right now that that is a thing.

HG will be here shortly enough to tell you about how we're piss poor and mid-table at best based on the fact we've started conceding a few.

Our form and how we win games has varied a fair bit as the season has progressed though, our most recent wins have been simply by outscoring the opponents in high-scoring games, but earlier on in the season our first three wins were all 1-0 and step back a month and we had the second fewest goals conceded in the division and the highest number of clean sheets. We've varied the way we play, starting line-up and formation a bit and that could be a deliberate ploy by Curle to prevent opponents from 'finding us out' or it just in response to players (such as Kennedy who spent the first couple of months on the bench) playing their way into the side and Curle trying to accommodate whichever set of players he feels have earned a start.

So who knows, if it goes by recent form then we could be looking at a high-scoring game which is more likely than not to result in a Carlisle win.

With Plymouth wobbling, we're living in hope we can take our chance in the next couple of weeks and find ourselves top of a division for the first time in about eight years. Doncaster can go above us if they win their game in hand though.

As for pubs, Botchergate is the place if you want cheap pints in Spoons or one of the usual array of 'fun pubs' and Walkabouts. As you head into the city centre from there you'll get more of a mix of wine-bars, hipster pubs and proper traditional pubs.

Where abouts are you staying?

Oh of course he will, he will never be happy with how we're doing and even when he rarely is in a positive mood and predicts us to win, we only go on and lose!!

I bet he's one of those fans that only ever goes to the big games we get at home, he's not a true fan.

You know that comment is going to be the start of a shitstorm on this thread that totally distracts from the match right?

I know for a fact he's an ST holder because he once flushed it down the toilet in anger when we conceded a late equaliser away. Him and CUFC17 seem to get to the majority of away games too.

The travelodge or whatever :( (i didnt book it!) i'd prefer a proper pub with a decent pint than a wine bar (enough of those buggers in Manchester!) though wethers do seem to do a decent pint as well on the cask range

Yeah, both Spoons and Lloyds are just a short hop from the Travelodge or Ibis. Also the Griffin at the top end of Botchergate, near the station is a Greene King pub, a few of those about now and they have a good range. It's a shame Moo closed down as that had a very eclectic range of pints. If you keep heading north from Botchergate onto the main shopping street then you'll encounter the Kings Head, the Sportsman and The Howard Arms, all of which are of the 'it's like walking back in time' variety.

We'll be up about 10ish Adam. Driving from Leeds earlyish. Avoid the Beehive, Scoth went in last year and asked for a pint of Floodwater. I thought we were about to get pasted and then I realised it was actually an ale they had got on!

I'd take a point, Be interesting to see how Evans sets up away. Murray's team was always hard to beat away but we were never going to score more than 1. Can see Evans going for it home and away.

He's a season ticket holder? Seriously? Wow I never would of guessed it. Well I hope he flushed that season ticket down the loo late on in the season, because if it was early on then I don't know whether to laugh at or feel sorry for the fella! :pmsl:

I think it might have been the Burton game a couple seasons back, though if I remember right he did then manage to fish it out. I couldn't help laughing when he posted what he'd done on the match thread.

The Beehive will be relatively quiet apart from on Saturday afternoon, but then it's not in the city centre.

I know he's led us to two victories, but I don't think I'll bother yet.

Winning this match and then Mansfield getting revenge a week and a bit later in the tinpot trophy would suit me fine.

Im not making my prediction just yet. The recent performances that I've seen from us have been utterly abysmal so on that basis I'm expecting a confident Mansfield to come and beat us.

However I've read reports that our performance at Grimsby last night was much improved, so I am going to watch the whole match on UnitedPlayer at my work desk tomorrow or Friday and then decide whether I think we're capable of beating a Steve Evans team.

It looks like Mansfield have finally woken up, weren't they tipped to be a top 7 team this season?

It will be interesting to see how Matt Green performs.

Will he be fired up to prove to Curle that he's still the man in the hope that something happens in January? Or will it play on his mind and impact his performance?

Maybe a tad early to say "we've woken up".

Yes, I think with Evans and the team we've got a top 7 finish is possible - but on that basis, and the nature of this league, virtually everyone could hope for that just now.

Curle's assessment of the way Evans' teams play.

"It might not be a game for the purist for the first hour and 10 minutes until it calms down."

C'mon fella, we all know that Green will succumb to a mysterious eleventh hour virus.

Bah!

I'm thinking that although we've improved considerably over the last few days, I'm not sure that we have enough to go and beat Carlisle at Brunton. Evans still needs time and a couple of alternative bodies in the building before we can start challenging the top 3 or 4. Though by the climax of the season it wouldn't surprise me to see us being a severe challenge for anyone in our division.

I did think Mansfield recruited quite well over the summer, and not losing Green was an extra unexpected bonus for them.

With a decent manager I expect them to be in and around the playoffs come end of the season.

Make no mistake about it, if we put in another shit performance there'll be no getting out of jail.

Mid day pitch inspection.

I reckon it's unlikely this will be on. It is bloody freezing here and it's been even colder through the night.

Shoddy's looking a bit daft with that tinpot comment further up.

What sort of club only covers a certain section of the pitch when it's been -5/-6 for the last few nights...

This will be the first time in about 5 or 6 years that we've had a home match postponed due to temperatures.
