Was on my walk the other night and was crossing a junction from a housing scheme when there was a driver coming up the road at the same time; he saw me, didn't slow down to let me cross though, and I kept on going, to which he slammed on his brakes and honked his horn to which I gave him a wiggle of my finger to let him know he was wrong. The markings on the road tell a driver to give way to traffic AND pedestrians! If he'd got out I was ready for the prick also, I was in a mood that day!

Pickling your own shallots is even better if you have the patience (richer sweeter flavour) and I agree with spireite_uk, the spiced vinegar is great on chips.

I have enough trouble peeling onions with my sausage fingers, let alone shallots. Plus I stink of onion for days afterwards as no matter how much you scrub, the smell of onion lingers. Still, it's all worth it in the end.

Really? I love small notes from machines.

The ATMs in Spain just pump out as large denominations as possible. Schoolboy error to withdraw €100, as you always get two €50s (or sometimes even just a €100). My ex-boss used to pay me in €200 notes, which was a ballache. Now, I always withdraw €90, as at least I'll get a couple of €20s and won't be run out of shops in angry Catalan.
