Never really understood the desire to fork out so much for a TV when you can get a projector for a lot less and make it any size you like.

The difference in picture quality and the comparative irrelevance of lighting in the room would play a large part I expect. Even the best projectors have a tendency to look washed out in anything approaching normal lighting conditions to me.
