Gravitational waves.

Specifically, seeing so many people show interest in them. It's very encouraging as a physicist to see hype about complex scientific theories. You often see so much bunkum floating around like astrology, conspiracy theories, alternative medicine and spirits that it's refreshing to see people engaged by academia instead.

I would expect "engaged by academia" to entail vaulting over a higher bar than consuming (the now deplorable) Horizon in Vine form, or New Scientist off-cuts as mediated by Buzzfeed.
