We spent 3 seasons in the National League. If it hadn't been for our new owners taking over when they did its very likely we would not have stopped there on our slide down the divisions. Up until 2014 we were very much in the tinpot category and had been for a while mostly.
We've just finished 15th in div2. Think that will make us pretty tin pot.

That wasn't the response I was expecting!
Good. Always nice to throw a bit of confusion in the mix. Its a silly thread to be honest.
We are all big clubs in comparison to others and nothing much in comparison to others but all League 2 clubs are equal until the season starts. Lets not forget the perrenial strugglers who got promoted last season.

Absolutely, I couldn't agree more to be honest. I suppose it's a bit of variety from the tedium of season ticket sales, but yes its a terribly pointless thread.

Wait until you all see Gander Green Lane. Then you’ll see what tinpot means. And I love it, as I see tinpot as term of endearment

Looking forward to my visits to all these huge stadiums. When are Bradford going to finish it, they seem to be missing a stand?

We’ve built a new away stand since Sutton (and Barrow fans) visited…..

Give me Gander Green Lane and others like The Dripping Pan over generic soulless grounds like Col U anytime of the day.

There's also a number of nice decent stadia like Port Vale's but having only some 5,000 home fans in a ground with a capacity of >20,000 is a sure way to kill any atmosphere those 5000 fans may attempt to get going. IOW, it's not ideal to have a ground that's meant to host Championship footy when you're in L2.

Re. the op's tinpot remark, I would like to assure the chap that clubs that ply their trade below the Championship are by definition tinpot. Yep, that goes for the likes of Pompey Sunderland et al. They'll lose the tinpot tag once they make it to the Chp.

Think you may be referring to the side that doesn't run the full length of the pitch. It has been like that for 20 years when we were in the prem. We had to leave a low end to make it easier for the scousers without tickets to climb over the wall.

Thanks for clarifying - he had me somewhat confused.

That unfinished stand holds almost double their grounds capacity, though. :D

I was referring to one of the ends, seems strange why you have three massive stands and then a small one at the end, but maybe I'm missing something.

A road and houses right behind it. That is the away end and facilities are pretty grim.

Fair enough. Does it get used regularly, or one of those that's only opened for big followings?

Open for any visiting fans who can fetch more than 1,200 - total away allocation is generally around 2,700, but can stretch to 3,100.

There’s certainly worse stands.

You’re tinpot if you’ve got 4 stands.

We’re secure enough in our own skin to be pleased that we’ve only got 3 and to ignore the jealous comments from those who really want to be like us but can’t

For the millionth time on here!

It’s all rather sad.

Is wrexham bigger than accrington and morecambe? are sheffield wednrsday bigger than brentford? not much use when you’re 2 divisions below

When you’re in the 4th division it’s all relative

Are mansfield bigger or smaller than some other nondescript league 2 nobody like crawley, barrow or leyton orient? who knows or cares.

You belong to be where you are at present on merit, the league system doesn’t care if you once won the FA cup before the aeroplane was invented or if you were once in the premiership

I remember someone actually ranking every side as well, i’m just thankful i’ve a decent job and friends haha

Some people moaning about the levels of tinpot ness at this level, or even the level below, have clearly never been to Harrow Borough on a Tuesday night or competed on the Isthmian Full Members Cup.

Not been in the Isthmian Full Members Cup but for Harrow I can raise you Addlestone and Thugbridge or Baldock Town (with Kevin Phillips as a left back).

Back in the day they were just as important as Bradford City or Tranmere Rovers are now and I cherish (some of) those memories.

That’s very true, like when we were unfortunately in non league (shudders) how i regarded the fa trophy as a pointless tinpot cup, for other clubs it would have been the holy grail.

Our non league time started a weird friendship with a tiny club called South Park FC.
