Hartlepool have never been to Wembley.

Reached two playoff finals (the standard way for tinpotters like us to get to play at Wembley) but the first time was while Wembley was under construction and played in Cardiff, and last season... much to their fans' annoyance I presume, the Conference final was played at Ashton Gate.

Think Rochdale is another one and there are others I think too.

Been to Wembley twice. Lost to Stockpooh in the 2008 playoff final, and narrowly beaten by Spurs in an FA Cup replay a couple of years ago.

Nah. But don’t Dale and Pools share a crap record of spending the most time in the FL without getting above the 3rd tier? Though I think we’d edge that now given your spell in non league. 100 years in the league and almost all in the 4th tier. It’s great to be back home

It’s unrecognisable! Just been looking at the table from our last L2 season and 8/24 have been in or are still in non league since 13/14. There’s been a definite shift of replacing some of the more “traditional” clubs. The national league looks like the league 2 I grew up with!

You can blame the so-called Brotherhood for that... they were set up to try and prevent tinpotters from escaping into L2 and they have singularly failed in that respect... I think they should have been disbanded just for letting Salford up but they've since let Harrogate and Sutton up.

Mansfield had a year (or maybe two) in the second tier in the 70s. So did York.

Correct with Exeter, although we were top of the league in 1939 when it got disbanded due to war breaking out, so I like to think we were robbed in our "undoubted" promotion season

We toyed with the idea of making the top flight in 2007, but then decided not to bother when we realised we were going to have to groundshare with Ipswich to do so.

We were promoted to Div 2 (now championship) in 1939 but because of the war did'nt play a game until 1946 we were swiftly relegated at the end of the 46/47 season it was the only season in our 110 year history that we played above the 3rd tier.

Our record home and away defeats 0-7 and 1-9 have both been against Spurs in the FA Cup. Correct me if i am wrong.

We avenged that 13-0 defeat though in our final home game, with a 4-2 victory over Newcastle. Reading up on it, it was Len Shackleton who scored six in the first game, Jackie Milburn had to make do with just two! 13-0 remains the top victory in England’s top two divisions and Newcastle also missed an early penalty.

We also lost 8-0 at Orient in the mid eighties - I think the player who went on to be club chaplain there (Castle?) scored some of the goals.

Our record defeat is 10-0 to Gloucester on the 13th January 1900 in the Mid-Gloucestershire League. More recently we also lost 1-8 v Moor Green in the Southern League in the 80's I believe.

If Moor Green were still around now and hadn't merged with Solihull the press would probably call it El Greenico.

28,000+ is our record but i doubt we will ever have a stadium big enough to beat that.Even the talked about new stadium will be around 15,000 to begin with according to Mark Palios. You have to know your limitations.

11-1 v Hull City in 1939

I force myself to go to a lot of crap unattractive fixtures (aren’t they all in leagues 1 and 2) in the mindset that I might miss one of those once a decade type silly score results that go our way. Stockport 7-2 win, wasn’t at the game but was in Stockport that day (I’ve no idea why I didn’t go either). Crewe 5-2 away a few years ago, decided not to go last minute. Regretted it as the goals pinged in.
Did manage to watch us lose 6-0 at Posh the other season despite 70% possession. The result that just epitomises BBM-ball. And of course a few embarrassments home and away to Barnsley.
