Anyone that puts a bet on before the summer recruitment has even started is a bookies dream.

Agreed, I wouldn't go early on this. However, if I did, then Ipswich and Rotherham would be my two selections. Ipswich because of Cook, and Rotherham because they will keep faith with Warne and they generally go back up from League One.

Ipswich under Cook will get the job done IMO.

Ones to look out for MK Dons, they'll be in and around the PO's most of the season. Not sure they'll have enough for auto's but if they can iron out their inconsistent blocks of form of this season they stand a good chance.

Funny because I can't see those particular odds on Oddschecker.

They have Bolton as ninth favourites, not fifth favourites, as posted by the Bolton fan. Where did these odds come from, the local Bolton bookies?

Anyway, as stated above, these odds are just a teaser to get fools to part with their money, prior to the transfer window opening.

It is MASSIVE Bolton, that'll be why.

Are not the odds also a reflection of how much money has been placed, not just what bookies think. If fans from a club decided to their money on their team, would that not change the odds?

Yes, of course. But my point was that the odds he quoted do not appear to be correct, and Bolton are longer odds than he claims them to be. It's as if he sees it as a badge of honour for them to "allegedly" be fifth favourites.

Odds at this level only reflect where the money is going, nothing else.

although I don’t gamble I got your point, it just stimulated my own different response.

The odds st the moment will be 100% bookies perception. There will not have been anywhere near enough money placed to shift odds at all yet.
Remember, the bookies always place the ‘bigger’ teams at the head of the betting.
Sunderland and Pompey have been favourites every season they have been in League One and they are still here.

Are Cambridge odds on favourites after announcing Hoolahan, or have I still got time to get my bet on before the odds crash?

I would have Wimbledon ahead of us and Cheltenham. Going to be a tough season for them.

Why? Where's the evidence to support that?
Just a hunch I have but to support that hunch they scored 54 goals last season. They have lost a striker who scored 21 of those 54 and also got 5 assists. I also read somewhere his goal involvement was the highest but can't remember that number.

Wimbledon have done well to survive these last two seasons and feel with Piggot going they may just struggle. Obviously long summer ahead but I would have both of us ahead of them in the early odds. Winning is a good habit to have and feel our momentum could kick on.

Sorry - I misinterpreted your post. I assumed you were saying that you would have Wimbledon and Cheltenham ahead of Cambridge.

On another forum I frequent, Wimbledon fans aren't very hopeful for next season, especially with losing Pigott. That being said, with a new stadium, and fans being allowed in, who knows what they can attract to the club in terms of players.

Who cares what the bookies say.
When we got promoted to the championship we were one of the favourites for the drop.
Means nothing.

With our current squad I'd be disappointed if we didn't challenge for top 2. But we will inevitably lose our better players (crooks, smith) before the season starts so depends how we replace them. It does look quite a strong league this year and think around 10 teams could win it tbh.

Sheff wed will be nowhere near top 2. They are in financial meltdown and I'd expect a 9 point deduction. Also Pompey not sure until we actually sign anyone where will expect to end up.

At last someone talking sense......Agree on both counts Ipswich will take some stopping
Sunderland ,Rotherham and Charlton will also be expected to do well.
Wigan may have new owners but there problem is attracting players having lost players to Ipswich and Bolton despite wanting to keep those players

I’m inclined to agree with you re Wednesday. Complete silence from the club too.

Mk dons will be the team to put your money on this season. If everyone is honest they were probably out passed and out shot by them last season. Added Twine who is a decent player and they can add a goalscorer they will be a hard side to stop

Nice of you to say so, not many would. There were definite signs that we were improving all season, and as you say it was superb for this level at times (Lincoln fans will wonder what we’re talking about, mind) All depends on who we bring in up top. Jerome won’t be around, Grigg is probably 60/40 in Wigan’s favour assuming he leaves Sunderland. All we have is Charlie Brown currently and although he’s shown glimpses, I’m not sure he’s quite going to set the world on fire just yet. Fraser may well end up at Wigan too, which would be a loss, no matter how good Twine turns out to be. We look light on numbers defensively and will miss Sorinola (gone to Belgium) and Laird (back at Old Trafford) as attacking wingbacks. Lots of key players to replace, and we really don’t have a clue who we’re looking at.

I’d be keeping my money in my pocket for a good few weeks yet.

Judging by the highlights I saw of a few of your games last season I’d expect you to be up there too, there were 3 or 4 games I saw where you created a ridiculous number of chances but you just couldn’t put them away, your away game at Huddersfield that you drew was one of most one sided games I’ve ever seen where you should really have won by 4 or 5.
Because of that I felt really sorry for you when you went down especially with that last game at Cardiff where you were leading right until the end too.

Yep the bookies don’t know shit when it comes to the lower leagues, we were shorter odds than Morecambe to go up yet they went up and we went down and they were by far the best team we played all season too.
