Genuine question and I’d love if someone actually knows 100%. If Bury were to be liquidated and wound up tomorrow what would happen with regards to the football pyramid?

Would League One become a twenty three team competition or would they use other options. The options they could consider the way I see it is Plymouth getting a reprieve, sending Mansfield up after being next best thing to auto promotion or sending both play off finalists up?

I'm pretty certain that Plymouth would be reprieved. That's always been the case lower down the pyramid. It's known at those levels as the AGM cup. So many teams in the National League Prem, North and South have escaped the drop due to others going bust. I think Weston-super-Mare hold the record for reprieves.

The FA/EFL/National League etc. will always give a stay of execution. So reprieves for Plymouth, Notts, Aldershot etc. in the AGM Cup.

As has been pointed out. In the unlikely event that Bury go, Mansfield wouldn't be promoted. Plymouth would remain in League One and Notts County would remain in League Two. Be up to the Conference whether they then give Aldershot a stay of execution. These teams being reprieved won't go all way down to grassroots level and I think it would be unlikely anyone below the Conference will be reprieved. The Conference South being a team short wouldn't be seen as so big an issue as League One or Two being a team short.

Interestingly, in 1990 when Swindon were stopped from going up after winning the playoffs, they actually promoted Sunderland rather than reprieving the relegated team.

The same also happened in the Dr Marten's League in 1997 when Gresley couldn't go up so another club got a lucky promotion to the Conference rather than a Conference club getting a reprieve. That club was Cheltenham Town - it could all have been so different.

With those two aside though, I think it's now commonplace that reprieves are granted now rather than additional promotions.

Yes it's a very sad situation we find ourselves in today, I think it will be kicked further down the road myself, or as our learned friends call it , adjourned.

It is nice to see that the supporters of Rochdale AFC are keeping a close eye on the situation.
They have a thread on their message board which is 94 pages, 2342 replies and a staggering 443191 views.
I have not managed to find the time to read it myself, but I doubt that it contains many bits of support or indeed sympathy for us.
I know that they are not all dead set on seeing us to under, but enough of them are.
I also know that if the roles were reversed a few of our less sharp sorts would be the same but I think most people looking on would think There but for the Grace of God ......

Clubs of Bury's size don't get wound up. Hopefully a takeover happens soon and they do well in league 1. Quality footballing side and Ryan Lowe's a good bloke.

It was posted tongue in cheek shoddy and as for your findings it's not always happened that the team has stayed up! The football league need to have about 5 meetings at full expenses before coming to a decision one way or tother

Chester were the same in 2014 (mid-June, I think) and had already put a squad together for the 'North', although they had some decent players IIRC and ended up finishing mid-table. I'm assuming some were signed then had to leave because of work commitments and others released who they'd probably have kept.

Thanks for the reminder about 1990! One of my earliest footballing memories, and easily the most painful

- second was when I nearly fell down the stairs at Brisbane Road when a wooden chair I was leaning on crumbled to nothing in my hand.

We were demoted 2 leagues for financial infidelity. (later reduced to just one league on appeal) A real shame as that team in 1990 was probably better equipped than the 1993 side.

Presumably that rules out reprieves then because 16th is June is far too late (and even later than non-league standards, which is a farce!).
