Top of league one at Christmas

Is there anyone out there who thought Burton Albion would be top of league one at Christmas ? Come to think of it would anybody expect us to be in the play-off places ?
I think even the most die hard Albion fan would have found it hard to imagine.
Are we genuine contenders for an automatic or a play-off spot ? Albion fans are beginning to dream it is a possibility !

For me it's still play offs. Think the back end of the season will ramp up.
But if we get to march I may start to change my mind.

That said, Coventry and Walsall aside no one has really impressed me much this season. Like the premier league it's anyone's that wants it

I expect Coventry and Peterborough to be the top two come May. Playoffs would still be a great season for both Burton and Walsall.

As others have said, it is a weak league. We have thrown away silly points a number of times this season but are still second.

In all fairness football is weird this season, just look at the Premier League and the bizarre weakness of that this season with Leicester top, seems to be a distinct lack of quality around in the pyramid at the moment (or its just more evenly distributed).

I think the prem is refreshing. I would love to see Leicester win it just to upset the aristocracy.
League one is more down to the fact that most teams are average at best. As you said, no mk Dons or Bristol city.
It's frustrating for 15 or so teams because of if they got their arse into gear they could win it.

I don't know the reason why but I would love to know why Yeovil fell so quick. Spectacular collapse

Not worried about Cloughie, he's always done brilliant for us. But I take your point regarding Yeovil , personally I don't think that is any particular worry for us either as the club is so well run financially. We are a smaller club than Yeovil, if we did manage to reach the championship I am fairly confident we would be the smallest club to ever play at that level since the league changed name from the first division.

If Burton do go up and fair play to them if they do then the big long term test will come. Yeovil were kept financially we'll run and there budget was less than some League Two sides.

Next season Burton will likely have half the budget of even the 23rd biggest club in the Championship and would almost certainly go down, so after a few years of confidence around the club it's how they cope with a difficult season.

That said looking at the division whichever three clubs go up would have a mammoth task to survive at the next level next season.

If. And it's a big if we do go up we would come straight back down. But I'm sure we would try to enjoy it as much as we could. Don't think we would get spanked every week but it would be bloody tough...
Be nice to claim a few scalps though.
All hypothetical though. Second half of the season will seperate the men From the boys.

It's such a huge gap, not only financially but quality wise to the Championship - it's like the old Championship/Premier League gap used to be.

We still have our annual 10 game winless streak to come yet, so I think Burton and Peterborough will be automatically promoted. Walsall, Coventry, Sheffield United and Gillingham will be below them.

The gap really isn't that collossal, very little between any of the sides from 4th downwards in terms of what you see on the pitch. Even your Derbys and Boros aren't blowing teams out of the water.

We're not doing too bad at the moment, the only player we've spent money on is out for the season and made about 4 substitute appearances. 6 of our current 11 were with us in League One (7 if Beckford was available), any team coming up just needs to use the loan market well.

Grayson said in an interview a month back that when we played QPR they had Sandro on £70k-a-week and we had a player in our first eleven on £70k-a-year (Alan Browne I presume). From what I saw that day, I know which one of those two i'd want to have in my team and he didn't cost about £8m.
