Who saw that one coming?!

Thought we deserved the win as well. Laird needs to keep his place in the first team and Odejayi was a header winning machine. Referee was poor both ways again, would have gone mental if that attempt at replicating the hand of god in the 98th minute went in instead of hitting the bar, unbelievable that the ref and linesmen must have been the only ones in the ground who didn't see it.

Need to get another run together now and get away from this mess.

Well done Tranmere, they played to there strengths and deserved the win today but you could not see this result until they got the 2 goals in 3 minutes, the second gifted by us I thought. Lawrence going off after about 20 mins unsettled us I thought as well
I was not impressed with Mellons long ball tactic to Barnett in the second half as I thought Tranmere dealt with it comfortably.

Fair play to Tranmere, deserved the win today. 2 bad goals to concede for Shrewsbury and weren't really at the races. Would be surprised if Tranmere don't pull away from the bottom of the table.

Have to agree with localhero on the performance of the officials today. Can't believe he didn't stop play when Demetriou was clearly badly hurt on the half way line. Hopefully he'll be ok and club awaiting news from the hospital. I wouldn't fancy being knocked over by Odejayi! Not saying it was a foul BTW.

Ref decided to pull up random pushes and pulls all game for both teams. The keeper was clearly incensed in injury time bad got booked for his troubles, so assuming it was a handball mentioned above (couldn't see from the away end). The thing that summed them up the most tho was when the ball clearly bounced off a home player 5 yards from the linesman who waited for the ref to decide!

All the best to Tranmere for the rest of the season!

Great result after a fairly eventful final hour. Shrews started stronger and fizzed a great cross in after about a minute. After that, nothing much of note happened either end until we scored 2 in 3 minutes. Great play by Laird for the first and a cool finish from Donnelly, but your keeper looked like he hurt himself diving for it. Holmes then tackled your player on your own 18 yard line and smashed a shot that seemingly went through the keeper - I'd be disappointed if Fon Williams had conceded that.
Fonners made a great double save just before half time, then second half was nearly all Shrewsbury pressure without a lot of finished product. Didn't see what happened to the number 3 but he was down for a LONG time, which of course was added on at the end. You hit the bar but loads around me said it was a punch rather than a header although I didn't see it.

Overall, decent enough game without being a classic. Great result given those around us.

I think you have forgotten the fantastic double save by your keeper just before half time. had we gone in at 2-1 I would have fancied us to get the equaliser and possibly the win but the 2 goal margin in the second half gave you something to hang onto which you clearly did sit on and managed to grind out the victory. Credit to Tranmere it's tough to do that when you are at the wrong end of the table!

I didn't forget. I put 'Fonners made a great double save just before half time'. It was a match winning pair of saves in the end, although Jennison Myrie-Williams hit the post too which rolled along the line, so I suppose it is swings and roundabouts. Pleased to keep Barnett out, as he has 3 against us already for Oxford this season. You looked a good side when you got it down, but persisted in long balls which we dealt with reasonably comfortably in my opinion. Heard a few people saying is was a poor game, but I think it was pretty good without being a classic.

Good luck for the rest of the season - if you could beat any of those around us it would be greatly appreciated.

Yes I agree and I did say that, I have not seen us go that direct before this season. Mellon said post match they thought they could put pressure on your back 4 with that tactic when chasing the game but it did no come off.

It was one of those days where nothing went right for us, but we are still 6 points clear of 4th place so no severe damage done just yet. Burton are seem unstoppable at the moment 13 games undefeated (last one was against us) but they have Southend, Wycombe, and Luton to play yet compared to us having only Wycomb so hopefully it is the kick up the proverbial we require!

I think todays result will spur Tranmere onto safety!

Strange game. Shrews had the bulk of possession and chances early on, but things transformed when Rovers scored twice within 3 minutes around the half-hour and could have had a third with Myrie-Williams curler which hit the post. Great save from OFW to preserve the h/t 2 goal lead. I was expecting a big fight-back from the visitors second half, but not particularly threatening. However after the 9 minute stoppage to treat Demetriou and stretcher him off, it appeared that Rovers were the more adversely affected by this. Shrewsbury pulled a goal back, but couldn't get the leveller, despite Micky Adams switching to a 3 at the back option, which seemed to invite pressure.

I don't actually think this game will have a major impact on our survival prospects, it's more what happens in the next couple. Though hopefully the manager will have taken note of Marc Laird's contribution.

I didn't see the incident leading to Demetriou's injury clearly, but Micky Mellon's post-match remarks suggest something sinister. While Micky earned credit for appluading both sets of fans pre-match, he lost some brownie points for a needless spat with a ball-boy; Woods also seemed to have a go at the lad, who was capable of standing his ground.

Glad to hear that Micky Demetriou got the all clear. Having seen the highlights, it seems a total accident, though I wouldn't fancy being smashed into by Odejayi.

It's also amazing the match officials didn't see Collins' handball onto the post in injury time. Should be grateful he's not as good with his hands as Maradonna.
