Another tough one this, really hoping Tuesday's thumping at home to Newport hasn't dented our confidence too much and that we see the level of performance from the three games previous to that one.

Suspect we will revert to the same side that beat Mansfield and FGR, although there is a chance Hemmings may retain his place at the expense of, say, Gomis.

I'd take a point!

When you are officially playing catch up every game needs a positive result to keep in touch at the very least .

Hard to predict if we had won midweek I’d be predicting a win but now , anything could happen . Not really up to date on Tranmere and how they are getting on and playing currently ?

I’d hope for a response after Tuesday’s defeat but confidence is a fragile beast

Well they have the divisions top scorer. There's the first problem!

And we are the division's top scores but it didn't do us much bloody good against you lot.
Bloody good job the Trent Nav is a fine place to drown sorrows.

Can only base on Tuesday but I thought Tranny looked functional but had two outstanding players at either end of the field... Norwood is obvious, we gave them just two chances on target but both ended up in the net. Has great movement and a killer finish. If you defensive frailties are there he will prey on that.

At the other end I was impressed with the big centre half Monthe? Guy was a beast, reminds me a bit of Leon Legge for us, he won everything in the air, second half we got in on the deck and caused problems but first half lumping it he ate everything up.

Unusually fair summary from an opposition fan, Valefan16.
Despite Notts being bottom of the league I think this will be a really tough test for us. Whilst Notts have a very shaky defence it may suit them if Mellon goes with Norwood playing in the lone striker role.
My money is on Notts to stay up. Would be an absolute travesty if Meadow lane becomes a non league cloggers venue.

Out of 4 games with this new defense they have been a million times better than those games before.

It was clear that dropping CMS and Stead on Tuesday meant that the attack didn't have anyone to hold the ball up so kept dropping into a crowded midfield. This also had a knock on that any balls lost would mean a good chance at a counter for Newport.

I expect that both the rested strikers will be back and it should mean us being better holding the ball up.

If we play like we have done I expect a point at least, if we play like we did Tuesday or pretty much any of the games before late January it will be an easy afternoon for Tranmere.

We're a Jekyll and Hyde side this season, sometimes naive and sometimes the real deal. Connor Jennings is the epitome of this... I constantly see him make mistakes and misplaced passes and wonder if he's out of his depth, and yet the last time I checked he'd managed more assists than any other player in the league. Norwood can obviously tuck them away, but defensively we can get a little bit silly.

Who knows?!

We still struggle a bit with balls into the box, but seeing as I saw a Tranny fan say they must have one of the smallest sides in the league hopefully this won’t be a problem! I fancy us to score, but I’m not expecting an easy afternoon at all. If we can get the first goal I’m going to back us to get all three points.

We are in good form and the players we signed in January, particularly Perkins, have improved us a lot. I know Notts have also recruited well and I think this will be a very tight game, too close to call.

One of the worst games I've ever seen at PP was watching a cynical Martin Allen Notts County team use every trick in the book to grab a 0-1 win at Prenton Park. Can understand the end justifying the means philosophy, but since had a jaundiced view of the Magpies purely as a result of that game.

Hopefully this will be a much better game. Expecting an unchanged 4-4-1-1 lineup, If the visitors set up to grind out a result, then like the Stevenage match, Rovers are likely have the skill to take advantage. If Notts adopt a more attacking approach and put us under pressure from the off, don't let settle and use any height advantage, then they're capable of taking some, perhaps all of the points.

Re the above, Manny Monthe has for the majority of this season been outstanding. He had a temporary blip vs Swindon and Northampton, but otherwise majestic. He'll sign for a Championship club or top league one club in the summer.

I remember it well, the fans were let in free after the original game was called off halfway through. That win ended a run of nine straight defeats and lifted us out of the drop zone with 4 games to go. We ended up stopping up with a draw against promoted Brighton on the last day.

Re tomorrow, it’s more likely to be having a go than grinding out a result to be honest. But we don’t have much height either!

I think this game should suit us more than Newport did to be honest - Tranmere seem like more of a footballing side who aren’t going to kill us with crosses and they should leave some space for Gomis and Boldewijn to break into.

I suspect we’ll be quite attacking - we’re basically playing a front four at the minute.

I dunno if Tranny have much height up front, but after Tuesday and virtually the whole season they’d be incredibly stupid if they didn’t try to put a shitload of crosses into our box. If they could coax Dave Challinor out of retirement we’d be really fucked.

Never been to Prenton Park, but we have a piss poor record there. I couldn’t ever remember us winning there until someone brought that MA 1-0 up from a few years ago. Will be interesting to see what effect that 4-1 has on our newly found confidence. I have severe doubts about that keeper of ours, and he definitely needs a decent show tomorrow.

I didn’t see the Lincoln and FGR games but we coped okay with balls into the box then? Mansfield never really tested us in that regard. Think it was partly the defence and keeper having a bit of a horrorshow, and Jamille Matt having a cracking game.

One of the best sides I've seen at Prenton was that county side of the early 90s Yates, short exc... proper away terrace too at meadow lane.

County team were a laugh too I shouted to tommy johnson... I hope your kids suffer ginger hair... he turned smiled and replied they have mate...

As for tomorrow high scoring affair , hope we are winning as I'm sneaking out at 440 for the rugger... don't want abuse from the magpies

Likewise the Tranmere side were tough opponents. Nixon, Vickers, Malkin, Muir, all excellent players at that level. I remember going to Wembley for the Play-off final as a very young lad full of nerves, but thankfully we stood up better on the day.

Would take a similar result tomorrow!

We had some height up front for one and a half games a few weeks ago, but he got injured for the season (probably) and we brought in dagnall who's just about taller than a dwarf.
So in short, no we don't. However, I do think we'll score in what i foresee to be a wholesome 2-2 draw. Wouldn't be gutted with that, given your recent impressive results (newport aside, but i actually think they're in a bit of a false position, like yourselves).

Best side to ever play at Prenton Park in a league game was Fulham (that I’ve seen in my 25 years). They had Louis Saha in his pomp, outrageously good. They beat us 4-1.

Those two 90s sides would wipe the floor with the current lot obviously . Didn’t fully realise at the time , how good we had it back then . Happy days

Rovers unchanged. Looks a strong Notts line-up featuring Stead and Mackail-Smith up front.

All over Notts the majority of this half and their keeper has made two cracking saves.

Apparently they’re allowed to catch the ball and it not be handball

Rovers had the better chances of first half, not taken advantage though. Norwood kept quiet so far. While the ref hasn’t been whistle happy one or two strange decisions going the way of the visitors. A nagging feeling not going to be our day.

Notts apparently allowed to use their hands all game. 5 handballs we haven’t had a free kick for. Rather odd.

Edit, 7.

Scoreline flattered Notts in the end really, but a decent 3 points. Next week a real 6 pointer now.
