On the Derby forum they've quoted some things Bournemouth have said over on theres. Apparently we're buying success.....this from fans of the club who tried to spend £5m on one player :fl:

Bournemouth have made enough money by selling players to cover that 5m though, Grabban and the Lallana sell on clause justifying it.

Derby have taken a punt by spending the money wage wise on the likes of Bent, Ince and to an extent Lingard, the rewards for such will be vast, the only club in the top end you could argue are being financially prudent are Ipswich.

Errrr.... You might want to read the original thread, then you'll get the context of being ironic, and having some fun of playing the victim like everyone does with us. Don't take it seriously..

As you read around other club's forums, it's interesting to see how hot under the collar we're making folks, and how quick people are to fly off the handle about us.

I don't really think that's true. The one thing you could praise Bournemouth for is their business acumen, though. They have bought young and bought well.

The only money we've spent on fees is for Sears and I'm pretty certain that was covered by the unexpected increase in attendances :£ our players have looked knackered last few weeks and we seem to be settling for a play off place from what MM has been saying

I still think a play off place would be a great achievement with what McCarthy has had to work with. When you consider the cost and experience of our squad compared to yours it really highlights that money isn't everything and that creating a team that is all pulling in the same direction will often triumph in this division.

You're right, and I'm sure at the start of the season the majority of fans would have been very happy with that (I know I would). However, given how the first half of the season has gone, I can't help feeling that a little bit of investment could be the difference between automatic promotion and playoffs. We don't need to be making big signings, and I don't think that's a good idea anyway, but a little more depth w

People keep saying this, forgetting that they spent a big chunk of that on Callum Wilson.

Anyway, I don't really care what other clubs do. I just thought some of the comments were quite ironic.

I did only read on our forum though, so some may have been out of context admittedly.

They spent 2m on Wilson, from 9.5m raised.

Definitely but like Veggie Legs has said, this would have been the best time to give a bit more depth to the squad! Feel it really might hurt us in the long run and with the possibility of 2/3 more games in the playoffs, it doesn't look good to be honest. Just frustrating that we haven't taken advantage of the position we're in especially as Marcus Evans hasn't been in a better position since buying the club

As ever these have to be taken with some salt as we never get the full story and its usually 'undisclosed'.

We got 3m from grabban's sale to Norwich. (Was 3.2 but the odd 200k went to Rotherham).
We had 25% of lallana, which works out over 6m, however we did a deal for 4m cash up front and the rest in future odds and sods.

We spent an initial 2m on Wilson, which may rise to 3m or so if all clauses are met, promotion and appearances etc. Yes doing fantastic so I'd imagine he'll trigger clauses so long as he stays.

Surman was 400k-500k from Norwich. Boruc is a perk of lallana negotiations.

So in theory, there's still a bit of money to play with in terms of net fee spend. But it's never quite that simple with new contract wages and stuff.

It certainly seems canny management. Wish we still had Surman and had got Wilson instead of The Magnificent Leon.

Didn't that Rantie fella set you back a few million too?

Is he actually any good? I imagine Wilson is the top striker considering his form this year but after seeing Pittman and Kermogant in the goals recently where does it leave Rantie?
Nice options to have nonetheless.

Rantie was something like 1.5m rising to 2.5m in more of the usual clauses, signed 18 months ago. We decided to take a stab on him with the fee because his wages in Sweden where cheap by Championship standards, as a club we're trying to develop some Scandinavian links generally.

It's frustrating with him because he's crucial to south africa and so he never gets to settle here for more than a couple months at a time, until he has to fly back over there and play.

He has immense potential, so much pace and body strength and be always causes chaos off the bench. Struggles with actually finishing mind. He needs games, and if he's only a bench option here and always flying away, he's never going to fulfill that potential.

Typically he started the season in good form, and then suffered a dislocated shoulder, then got fit and went straight to ACoN, so we haven't seen him for months. Back now :)
