Would have thought it would require a decent six figure fee, have Orient got some cash now?
We've recently had new investors approved to our board, so yes there is a bit of cash to spend on players.

Would imagine we'd be happy to pay around £100k if thats what it took. Not many decent strikers out there on frees this summer and we just lost our top goalscorer to a rival club in the same league.

Seems that Whitfield is off back into the league, with Bradford rumoured to be the destination. Was fantastic for us in the first half of the season but his effectiveness dropped off once Nemane got injured on the other wing and defences could concentrate on him. Decent player at this level and could never fault his effort but not really sure he's League 2 standard.
Haven't heard anything our end but we have been linked to him in the past. We do like to sign Bradford lads at the moment and we could probably do with another wide man so its definitely believable.

Heard anything about this Erico Sousa to Grimsby rumour at your end, David Curries Mullet JE93?
We've heard that we've offered him a good deal but there are 4 or 5 offers on the table and a few from full time clubs, so would certainly fit the bill if you were one of them.

Was brilliant for us last season, 7 goals and 3 assists in 14 games speaks for its self from a wide position. But looking at his past career seems like the kind of player who needs to be playing every week to get the best out of him. He's a very direct winger wants to run at and take people on and has the ability to go past people, slightly blinkered by that and it can make him a bit frustrating at times going for the trick/run/shot when there is an easier chance on, but could say that for most wingers at this level. As I day his stats don't lie from last season and would be delighted to see him here again next season, but I'm fairly resigned to losing him to full time football.

highlights reel below from last season shows you what you'd be getting.

Great, thanks for the information. It's one of those frustrating ones for you I'd imagine, in that you've hardly seen him but he's been good enough to instantly attract attention. It sounds like he's in a good place with you right now and it's perhaps one of those situations where he should maybe stay put for a bit longer but that happens less and less these days. Having said that, it's the type of signing I'd be excited about.

Yeah pretty bang on for all counts. Manager has tried to sell it as stay another year and play like that again and by Christmas / end of the season it will be L2 clubs who are interested etc.

He's probably at an age now (mid 20's) where he'll feel like he can't really afford to not take full time opportunities when they come his way. He's based around Leeds area which made me think Halifax and York might be other potential suitors.

See there’s a random rumour page claiming Hyde is set to join Southend within the next 72 hours.

Same rumour page reckons we are signing Alex Reid on loan from Stockport. I can only assume that is utter bollocks?

It’s one of those Twitter accounts that’s just making stuff up and hoping it gets one right to give it some clout.

Just what I thought as soon as I saw it. Although they are probably right about Hyde.

Specialist4Sports agency have been at Grimsby Town’s stadium today, clearly finalising a move for a player.

They represent the likes of Alex Addai, Grant Smith, Dion Donohue, Chike Kandi, Aaron Drinan, Matt Robinson, Michee Efete, Aaron Jarvis, Jerry Wiltshire, Killian Colombie & Manny Onariase

Any one got any idea on who/who’s it could be?

I've had a WhatsApp message saying we're going to be announcing a triple signing, one of which is the aforementioned Sousa.

Interesting.

Any clue on who the other two will be?

Addai sounds like a possibility but Neal Ardley also wants him at Solihull

I’m not sure why but when we were in League 2 and there were transfer rumours about us I was never really that bothered even when we might end up signing someone pretty decent, but now we’re back down here I hear transfer rumours for us and start to feel quite excited again and I’m really not sure why that is. Are you similar to that SOC?

Yeah, I'm definitely much more up for everything now I think. Transfer rumours, fixture release...tractors on the pitch. You name it, I'm in!

Loads of rumours no idea if any are true, but as well as Sousa, there is Efete, which would correspond with above, and also Ryan Taylor, Newport?

Finally one I don't believe is Thsimanga from Boreham wood

Our fans are constantly linking Tshimanga with us, but pretty sure he’ll go to a league team.

Haha I'm a bit the same this year. I think it's partly the new owner optimism honeymoon and also the fact you feel the signings are made with genuine promotion aspirations in mind as opposed to a tilt at lower midtable mediocrity, if we were lucky. Winning (or potential to) games at any level equals excitement.

Whoever they are there seems to be enough excitement about them to suggest there’s a good ‘un amongst them

I think the excitement about signings in this league is that being one of the bigger clubs you expect exciting signings that other clubs couldn't compete to sign, once in the league it's just random players on their way down especially under Fenty and hoping to avoid relegation each season!

Aye that's why I don't believe it, if he leaves them this pre season it's to a league club not another non league club.

Notts left back Jordan Barnett rumoured to be signing for us. Seems like he played a fair bit under Ardley but fell out of favour under Burchnall.

Much better going forward than he is defending, decent left foot on him. We didn’t see loads of him but I would say he’s pretty average for this level.

Also, this is quite harsh, but the neck tattoo is… bad. There’s absolutely nothing behind his eyes.

I wasn’t a massive fan to be honest, did score a belting goal against you lot though. He didn’t play much under Burchnall because Calvin Miller came in at LWB and was superb.

So just to clarify, Southend want Murphy, Hyde and McCallum. How are they going to afford that?!
We're in one of Ron's 3 year cycles of finding a wad of cash stuffed down the back of a sofa.
To be fair the club had over half it's debt wiped out (by unknown sources) around 18 months ago. Currently the club does not owe a penny to anyone other than Ron. Paid off all bank debts and all outstanding loans, one of the loans was over £4M.
We've also had this sports rep company involved in paying off Hmrc monies. Never a dull financial moment here.
The most amazing thing about it all is how Ron keeps finding all these outside sources to stuff money into the club, he must be a smoother talker than casanova.
