Woodyard isn't a fan of being too north. I was surprised he ended up on loan at Tranmere, albeit only a short term loan. Soon reverted to type and signed for AFCW.

Still can't quite believe he made 115 odd appearances in only two seasons for us!

we have a wishlist thread on RP at the mo, few people being realistic with the names mentioned above (plus 1 or two others) and the others think we are not being ambitious enough and should be aiming for better!

need to realise that we cant just sign L1 players to try and get out of the league, you need a team with experience of this one too. Most will have at least the capacity to play in L2 so an 18 month or 2 year deal is sorting our short term ambitions

Wrexham would be better off trying to cherry pick the better players in this league and the one below than tempting league 1 players with the dollar.

You want players on an upward curve ideally. The majority of our better signings have been those kinds of players.

Said this in the summer, there was so many good, fairly young players already proven in this league and on the way up that moved on in the summer, lots to the likes of Notts, Chesterfield and Stockport, that Wrexham presumably could’ve picked off if they wanted with the money they’ve got. Problem was that they didn’t appoint a manager for ages and then the one they did get hasn’t worked at this level, he’s just signing what he knows. Be much harder/more expensive for them to do that in January.

I never got Alex Woodyard. Ran a lot but little else and litle ability on the ball. Is he better now?

Unfortunately our transfer policy didn't seem to go that way in the summer, but perhaps that was down to Phil Parkinson's lack of knowledge at this level. Now that he's seen a fair few games, he might have a few targets at this level. If the Ruben Rodrigues rumour is true, it would suggest that we do. I'd rather us try to sign Kyle Wootton than Rodrigues, he'd be fantastic alongside Mullin.

Just to summarise for those who can't be arsed reading back, the league players we appear to be linked with are:

Joe Piggott
Alex Woodyard
Tom Lowery

Some mentioning James Norwood too, but I think that's more out of hope.

Little ability on the ball is slightly harsh, he's not a playmaker but he's very consistent, never misses a game, full of energy, adds a bit of steel, strength and bite into midfield and is the sort of player you need to scrap around and press to give others the opportunity to play.

He sounds like exactly what we need. We don't have any strength and bite in our midfield whatsoever so the midfield is largely bypassed, which is a shame as I think Jordan Davies could really flourish if he had some assistance in the middle of the park. Luke Young and James Jones just haven't been good enough at that.

Would be perfect for us. Like Jay Harris but not crocked, our midfield is so lightweight.

Lowery?! No chance on that, surely. Would be bowled over if he goes down instead of up.

Can we please have the full RP list of rumoured targets?

Wilshere
Woodyard
Piggott
Rodrigues

Lowery is a want but no firm rumours of us making an offer
Same with Norwood

I probably would've agreed before we signed Mullin. It's probably a case of people seeing his lack of gametime and deciding to put 2 and 2 together to get 5 but I don't think we can rule it out.

He's playing again now though, isn't he? Was some sort of contract dispute that meant he wasn't playing. Demand for Lowery will be much higher than Mullin you'd have thought. I guess stranger things have happened, but I just can't see one of the hottest prospects in the EFL over the past few seasons dropping to the Conference when there'll be a fair few Championship clubs in for him.

Yeah that contract dispute is ongoing, Artell seems to have been including him recently as he's probably realised he is too important to leave out of the side. I'm not clued up on Crewe though so couldn't say that with certainty.

I can't rule it out as if we're going to throw more money at him than Championship clubs are prepared to, he could well find his way here. Depending on what you believe, there was Championship interest in Mullin, which isn't unusual for someone who scored as many in League 2 last season as he did.

Hold your collective beers guys, Ive heard we are already lining up some awesome signings, players heads are turning to Cae Racecourse it seems. We will have to ship out too so I wonder who will go? Dior is my guess for one

;)

No names but three forwards and three midfielders as well as a defender is all I was told.

Would be a shame for Angus as he's a good player at National League level. I'm still a little disappointed he left us as he's better than some of the striking options we have a year on from his departure. But that's Michael Jolley for you.

apart from his 6 month spell last season he hasnt really had a look in

did a job when we needed him, maybe a loan was the better option for him?

out of contract end of the season anyway

I’d take Angus. He always seems to play well against us and think he’d fit in well.

I really can't see Pigs going to Wrexham

When he was at Maidstone he turned down northern football league teams (Rotherham & Coventry were 2 of the teams I heard) because he didn't want to move out of the south. His family still lives in Maidstone & as far as I know he was still living in the town up to this summer.

Woodyard is the one we need most, a proper solid no frills midfielder.

We are going to be Going For It™ massively in January.

I suspect you're gonna be getting absolutely fleeced too, going round in October telling everyone you're spending big in Jan doesn't seem like the most intelligent tactic to me.

I wouldn't worry about us too much financially we are in an excellent position. What with our season ticket sales and sponsorship deals we probably won't even need to spend our oil money
