We've apparently signed up 3 or 4, to be announced when contracts expire on 30th June. Lots of talk surrounding Egan, Sawyers and Bentley, so hopefully it'll be those three plus a couple of surprise signings later on in the transfer window.

If those three come in, I can see us going for a couple of wide players (maybe Swift) and then we could have wrapped up our summer transfer window activities. Would love for us to sign Canos permanently but image he's out of our price range.

Are Brentford still using the statistic approach to sign their players?

As much as we've always done. It's been massively overstated, overplayed and scoffed at by various parts of the football world. We use it alongside traditional scouting methods, but we lean on it more than most simply because we can't afford to throw as much money at scouting/recruitment as other clubs can.

Nixon saying we're determined to get Ashley Fletcher. Looked like he was going to stay at those bastards over the pennines but hopefully we can attract him here.

Let them scoff the players that have come in & out of Brentford the last 4 seasons is incredible and clearly working for you lot.

Brentford is the Southampton of the Championship.

I just admire what Brentford are doing at the moment, what was the figure at the end of August last year 15 mill off 3/4 players.

Year before was 5 mill and the year before that you were bringing most the above transfers in on frees?

Very impressive and unlucky that the team hasn't fired Brentford to the heights that the players have there new teams.

I said few weeks ago that clubs need to hijack whoever Brentford are in for.

Where do they find them all to?

Personally I think their use of stats is overstated..

What they do have which has helped a lot is a structure at their club who understand the transfer system and no how to pay as little as possible and sell for as high as possible.

You can find the best players in the World using whatever method you like, but if you pay too much and sell too cheaply it won't look nearly as good.

It undoubtedly is, but everyone needed to jump on Warburton's departure by throwing a load of stats accusations around. That said, certain players that have made us an awful lot of money were signed after our research indicated they'd be a hit - the signing of Andre Gray only happened once our stats guys convinced Warburton, as Warburton wasn't convinced by him. Tarkowski signed based on similar findings. But any edge we've had seems to being eroded away - not because competing teams' use of statistical models have improved, but because finding a balance in the squad is key and therefore many of our targets are the same as our competitors. For example, Jota was a massive success for us but we faced competition from a load of European and Championship clubs when we signed him.

Plus, when many teams hear we're interested in one of their players the price can become exorbitant - Philipp Schobesburger being a prime example.

Emerson Hyndman - anyone seen him? 20 year old American lad from their youth who we've signed.

Grabban at Championship level is effective, frustrating because he needs to miss a few chances before he scores, but he creates the chaos and chances. Obviously less effective in the PL but found a niche as an impact sub.

Still not a whisper about it at this end though, so still highly skeptical that we'll sell.
Alan Nixon saying that he thinks there was an inquiry, but the price you came back with was high. Doubt we'll go in for him unless we get desperate in late September/Early August.

We've been linked with Blackburn Rovers centre back and Scotland International Grant Hanley, rumoured fee of £5M. Not sure if it's bullshit or not but it fits Walkey Owl's description of a Championship centre back. Steven Fletcher is also apparently a target but wants £40K a week.

There's a reason why Brentford and Rotherham, two fairly similar sized clubs who both went up in the same season, have taken different paths since coming into the Championship. Because Brentford's transfer policy is 100 times better.

Been linked with two defenders today, Jake Buxton and Kelvin Wilson. I'd be happy with Buxton, the kind of player our fans would probably love and surely solid enough to keep us at the right end of the table. Wilson I wouldn't be so happy with. Forest fans think he's rubbish, sounds like he's been dining on that little purple patch he had at Celtic. Wouldn't be surprised if one of our current CBs (Pearce/Morgan) is on the way out if we end up signing both Wilson and Buxton. I'm guessing we've decided not to pursue signing Alex Bruce either.

A little Matty Taylor update, apparently his agent is trying to get him 10k a week, if that's true he won't be coming to us. No way we'll be paying 10k a week to someone likely to be on the bench to start with. I'd rather us go and find a young upcoming Premier League striker to take on loan for peanuts instead.

Jake Buxton would be an excellent signing for any Championship club. He is slow, and he's always been slow, but he never really lets his lack of pace ever come into question. He positions himself well, he rarely gets beat in the air, despite his size, and he's a genuine leader. The best part of his game is his passing ability. He can knock a ball 50 yards to a player's feet with incredible accuracy.

Nevertheless, Shackell and Keogh have made the two centre back spots there own, unfortunately for Bucko, and neither have done too much wrong in the past season. Both were in the frame for POTY - Keogh won it.

He's a fans favourite. If you value professionalism and leadership, he brings both in abundance.

Sounds like he'd suit us perfectly if his passing ability is the best part of his game. Playing out from the back is a massive part of how we play under Caldwell. Our fans like most love a bit of passion so that'll certainly help. We're in talks with him according to the paper and it's going well so hopefully a deal can be done.

£5m for Hanley? That's shameful, he's not even an improvement on what you've currently got.

That's what's making me think it's bollocks, would be happy if we signed him as younger competition for Loovens but not at £5m. However with the new TV deal in the Premier League I can see that figure being the norm for half decent players in the Championship.

Also if Jake Buxton is going i'd like to think we'd look at him ahead of spending £5M on Hanley.

According to Sunday papers, Norwich have agreed a fee of £2m for Tshibola. I would be surprised if we let him go especially at that price. I would rather get rid of Williams or Norwood than sell Tshibola. Also been told there isn't a great deal of money to be spent on transfers and we will be relying on our academy players so can't see us getting rid of our best youngster for 2mil.

Ashley Fletcher to speak to another couple of clubs this week (thought to be Bristol City and Wolves I think). Apparently we're keen to get it done, though. Plus we've just taken a guy from Barnsley as our new CEO so not sure if that will contribute anything. Would be a solid start to pre-season to bring him and Antonsson in as options off Wood.
