Bridcutt apparently signs tomorrow. £1.8m is the figure.

The way you are going you will end up beating the 106 points we got in our championship season in 05-06.On the plus at least then our fans will stop signing that tinpot 106 we've got the record song.

Derby's business so far does give the impression your owners are making one last push. But you've built a good foundation the last 4/5 years, does seem strange to blow it all in one year with a relatively inexperienced boss?

We've got fans moaning our owner doesn't have the same ambition as the Derby one now :ffs:

I wouldn't say we're blowing our foundations, we've built a good core squad where the majority of players have stayed and now we're adding quality players to take us the step further, you could see that our squad needed improvement at the end of last season so that's why we've done this, although we are signing quite a lot of players...

Out of interest, are the signings long term deals or a couple of years on them?

Mainly 2-3 year deals, although Weimann was a 4 year I'm fairly sure.

Yeah, Weimann 4 year.
Pearce was 3 year.
Carson was 2 year.
Bent and Baird were 2 with an option of a third.

Why are Derby having a complete overhaul? They weren't far off promotion as it was, and ripping everything up and starting again may not be the best course of action.

On paper the signings are impressive, don't get me wrong. But similar things have happened in the past.

Don't need him. We have plenty of decent cover in that position. Can't see it.

Where've you heard this?

Well, can't say it for definite, it just seems that way from what I've been told. Don't get me wrong I'm not gonna claim to be ITK, just have family who are in Dubai on holiday at the moment and they bumped into Cotterill over there, who also happened to also be with Paul Konchesky. They also had a chat with Konchesky and he sounded keen on the move. Someone on OTIB also posted that their mate had seen Cotterill with Konchesky over there. Plus we all know what happened the last time Cotterill bumped into a player in Dubai...

Fair enough.

Wouldn't be against signing him for the right wage - he's been there and done it before, and will have a good understanding of the Championship.

He massively impressed me every time I seen him play for Leicester a few years back in the Left Back position - but I presume he'll be signing to be played/cover for the Left Centre Back position? Unless Cunningham is off (Bryan won't be, only signed a new contract the other day) then I can't see why else we'd need him.

I'm a firm believer in the signing young players with ability and further potential as is our recent transfer policy, but within that you need a wise 'old' head and a bit of know how within the squad, and Wilbraham and Elliot provided that last season. I'd imagine we'll be looking for a few experienced Championship players, and he'd fit into that.

Probably just another bullshit rumour to add to the pile of the other 287 players we've been linked with since the start of this month.

Don't really see him as a LCB? He's a left back isnt he? If we are going to improve/cover that position then there's no point buying a player who isn't a natural in that role.

Pretty much how I would view the signing. Would be a good addition in my opinion.

I guess I've turned it into a rumour by posting here, should've said we 'might' be in for him but it's not just a random name pulled out of a hat like the other players we've been linked with. Cotterill has been chatting with him that's guaranteed, it just depends what they've been chatting about. Might well be nothing in it, even if Konchesky is keen on the move it doesn't suggest Cotterill necessarily wants him, or that his wage demands are viable

I seen it on OTIB as well, so you're not to blame ;)

One of the more interesting names that have come up in the last few weeks.

Ah so we shouldn't have signed Ayling last season then...

I'm pretty sure Ayling had played that role before, and a lot of Yeovil fans I've spoke to couldn't actually tell me his best position. I've not once seem PC play there.

Jota linked with Leicester now in our local paper. Also says we'd want more than £5m for him.

That price tag seems to have put Derby and West Brom off, both of whom apparently enquired earlier in the window.

Wouldn't say it's a overhaul yet as we've hardly got rid of anyone who would be expected to start in our first 11. When you look at the players released we've just upgraded them and made the squad a little more competitive.

Carson brought in to seriously challenge Grant, we had Kelle Roos as our number two last year who's a youth player basically.

Bent was always going to come in after last year if we could make it happen, his goals speak the reasoning there but with Chris Martin the only decent CF at the club we needed another.

Zak Whitbread was released as he was injury prone and on a decent whack, I don't imagine we're paying Pearce loads more than we were him so a straight swap there.

Baird is a good experienced util player, offers a lot of the same traits as the released John Eustace, especially in CDM.

With Jamie Ward being released its left us with only Johnny Russell and Simon Dawkins (who's not really a winger) out wide. Weimann and hopefully Ince will thicken our options there.

Bridcutt was a surprise when I found out we were in for him, maybe they're still worried about George Thorne's fitness. Who knows, should be a quality addition there. I'd like a centre back who's better than what we have so Shackell would be perfect really.

Ince, Shackell, Bridcutt and a few decent loans and I'll be over the moon. I expect a few departures too. As well as improving the first 11 we need quality cover, we saw last year what happened when injuries hit, we just weren't very good at all.

I imagine one of our bigger players will be sold at some point this summer, but given they'd likely go for £4-5m, and for that amount last summer we brought in Odubajo, Jota, Gray, Hogan, Macleod and Judge, I'm confident we'd be able to find good replacements again.

I imagine Bridcutt is planning for one of your other midfielders being sold to pay for some of this spree, I'd imagine Hughes or Hendrick.

Were supposedly making a last minute move for Jamie Patterson from Forest who Sadler mentioned earlier. Hope we can get him but we'll have to move fast since Burnley have already bid for him.

Maybe so, Villa have been sniffing around Hendrick and there's always people keeping tabs on Hughes. Wouldn't surprise me to see Bryson sold either, Sean Dyche is a fan of him.

I don't think so. I don't see much of a place for Hendrick in the side, but I doubt that hinges on Bridcutt signing. I'm guessing if Hendrick was sold, we would still replace him with a more attack-minded CM.

At the minute, we've pretty much gone like-for-like over players that have gone out. Carson being the exception as we didn't have an experienced number two.

Whitbread - replaced by Pearce.
Ward - replaced by Weimann
Naylor/Eustace - replaced by Baird
Bent - replaced by Bent
Carson...

Of prospective new signings: Ince would replace himself in the team, Bridcutt would replace Mascarell and Shackell would replace Barker/O'Brien.

How many do you need? You've already added attacking midfielders like Weimann, Ince + Bridcutt (soon to be) and got players like Russell, Hughes, Dawkins, Hendrick, Bryson ... Thorne? etc who look like attacking midfielders. In all honesty it's getting to the point where it's just being plain greedy.

It probably looks like jealousy from the outside, maybe a part of me is for now, but with the amount you have invested (in the wage department) on promotion this season, if you don't go up I can see it all ending in tears. I still believe club stability is the key to going up in this league, it's strange to see as Derby were one of the most FFP abiding teams up until 12 months ago.

Looks like derby are using the method of buying everyone so that no one else can strengthen. [emoji6]

In seriousness they had a strong squad and have added a lot of quality to it already, but too much of a turnaround can be unsettling and disrupt the players. Also have to wonder if some of the previous high(er) earners have gone or will be going to keep within FFP

Thorne and Bridcutt are very much defensive midfielders. Hughes isn't really attacking or defensive, he just keeps things ticking by. Hendrick and Bryson are the more attacking duo.

Again, as said by Luke, there is nothing to suggest that we're going to break FFP - the owners are very confident that we are playing within the rules and won't get punished. If we were a side that had a history of financial problems then I would be worried, i.e. Fawaz being wound up in court god knows how many times.

My guess is our new chairman isn't afraid to put money in and will manipulate as many loopholes as possible - maybe he will even be willing to pay a fine? I don't know.

All I can tell you is that our owners/decision makers are very, very good when it comes to the business side - Sam Rush typifies that.
