Interesting. Wouldn't turn my nose up at him, but we have enough midfielders as it is. If you look back to the end of last season, players like Norwood and Akpan were barely featuring. The more urgent matter is the fact that we don't have a goalkeeper and I thought that would have taken priority.

Brad Jones is the latest keeper we are being linked with.

Hope not, but not taking it too seriously as we have and will be linked with every available goalkeeper until we sign one, easy journalism. Think Jones is the fifth rumour so far this Summer, Foderingham the only one which our reporters have said we've shown genuine interest in.

I would like to think we could do better than him. Would rather see Shaka or Ben Roberts come out of retirement and go in goal than Brad Jones. He has been at Liverpool for so long and only played 18 times.

Strong rumour that Burnley have agreed a £1m deal for Villa full-back Matt Lowton, who is expected to have a medical on Monday. Suppose he would be Trippier's replacement.

Also, a rumour that Everton want Tom Heaton to replace goalkeeper Tim Howard, who might leave Goodison Park for family reasons.

Feel positive about Lowton. Don't know a great deal about him but the people I've spoken with seem to think he's up to the task at this level so happy days.

I'd be gutted if Heaton left. I'd mentally prepared myself for Ings and Trippier to go, but losing Heaton would be a real blow.

Linked with Samuele Longo of Inter Milan. Sounds a lot better than it is. He was loaned to Cagliari Calcio, where he played for more than 17 hours last season without scoring. On two of those occasions, the opposition gave him 5 minutes head-start on the pitch on his own, but still no goals (but a yellow card for time-wasting).
Given that he makes Leon Clarke look prolific in front of goal, I am hoping that Bury or Rotherham will play the 'bigger club' card and sign him from under our gutted noses.

He'll probably go to Rotherham thinking they play in the New York Stadium... I heard somwhere that it is his dream to play in the US. He'll go into the interview hoping to meet club adversaries like Thierry Henry and Tim Cahill, but instead they role in the 2 seater sofa and Steve Evans waddles in with a cigar and an inhaler. 'Welcome to Rotherham'.

We don't sign them Johnny foreigners.
They can't seem to take to our flat caps and whippets.

Thought Kari Arnason was from somewhere cold, wet, windy and remote. But enough about Rotherham. Didn't he come from Iceland before that?

Burnley boss Sean Dyche set to bid for £1.5 million-rated Genk striker Jelle Vossen, according to today's The Sun.

Can't say I'm too excited if he is replacement for Ings, as we will get £6 million-plus for Ingsy, and Vossen was not exactly a roaring success for Middlesbrough last season.

Just heard that we're close to signing Paul Anderson on a two-year deal from Ipswich for free. Anyone know what he's like?

This is boring as shit.

Westley would have signed 18 players by now.

There's a reason it's Anderson 4th club in 5 seasons and his 3rd free transfer in a row (including one 'makeweight' for a swap)

He's quick and works hard and is very likeable, but his end product is lacking gravely.

We had him here the season we went down.

Solid if unspectacular, but puts in a good shift and produces rare moments of quality. He'll work hard and put in no less than 100% every game. A good squad member to have.

Come on Gary, I'm not jealous. I'll readily admit you've got a ridiculously good squad but I also have seen us build very good squads and still fail spectacularly. So I'm more looking on with intrigue.

I just find the attitudes of a lot of Derby fans quite amusing, because it is abundantly clear you are going for broke and you will be in the same shit as us in 12 months if it goes wrong.

Regarding our 8m last summer, this came days after Newcastle gave us 6m cash for the golden boys Darlow and Lascelles. Though we are still guilty of spending ludicrous money generally over recent years.

Going to be interesting I think. Personally, you should go up comfortably, as you have so many goals in that team and you will outscore most teams even if one or two players have a bad day.

It was tongue in cheek.
However, same as Luke, I just have this feeling our owners know exactly what they are doing, they know the risks if we don't go up. I just don't think they would gamble the future longevity of the club with one all out tilt at promotion.

Can see a couple of clubs getting transfer embargo's and point deductions this season. Some people on here could justify signing Messi and saying it's financially viable.

Lawrie Wilson is apparently joining. Not enthusiastic about this if it happens.

Always thought he was decent at Charlton.. Maybe I'm confusing him with Solly though

To put it simply, you can only trust your clubs owners until they prove otherwise. Our American owners haven't really put a foot wrong since they arrived, plus we have a Derby County supporting local chairman/investor.
However, I get the picture of pessimism when it comes to these knee jerk, trigger happy, desperate for foreign company publicity, artificial fan, Cellino, Venkys, Fawaz type owners.
Maybe ours will turn out the same in 12 months, only time will tell.

Solid if unspectacular, as JJH said, is a good description - he's not going to set the world alight, but would be a decent signing for most teams at this level. I would have preferred to keep him than release him.

I'm not sure whether our lot are going for broke this season or whether there will be some outgoing transfers to help cover what we have coming in, but as other have said, our board have done the right things financially over the past few seasons and i would be surprised if they risked all of their good work on a desperate promotion push.
At least we are not making regular appearances in front of the high court. Look at 106.

Do these players have luxury Texan wives? I predict a luxury house-building boom in Burnley and orgasms at the local Laura Ashley.
Maybe Chateau Shackell can be recycled?

Pleased to see that Burnley fans abbreviate Ings's name by making it 25% longer.
