Pearson, Davies and Johnson surprisingly still here.

I think there is very little spare cash in English football right now and other clubs might be struggling to match the £17/£18k a week we've put on the table for them. I'm sure Pearson will move on for a new challenge but i'm not convinced the other two will definitely go yet.

The fact we haven't signed another centre back yet might mean the club think they can persuade Davies to extend.

Neil seems quite positive with the way the club is going in terms of the squad rebuild, reckon he will be very keen to bring in Molumby permanently, speaks very highly of him.

If you're serious about Preston paying £18k a week, then there is not a chance we can ever contemplate staying competitive in this league.

My guess is that is nearly 3 x what any of our players are on.

No wonder so many Championship clubs are in such a perilous financial state.

We're offering it to these 4, plus Sinclair is on around that. Everyone else will be on less than £10k.

You're right, staying in this league probably won't be possible unless you up your wage bill, never mind competing in the top half.

To be fair, Preston have been stable at this level for a good number of years before being able to afford to give these kind of salaries.

There has to be some seriously difficult decisions in the next few months if the situation with COVID doesn’t improve. I’m not convinced that fans will even return by April, certainty not in any real numbers. The stadiums have to be full by next season. Where is all this money coming from? Surely every player in this division has a price right now.

The thing is, paying that sort of money only keeps you from going down, it doesn't actually get you anywhere.
Just existing, whereby you probably get between 50 and 60 points sounds great to us.
But does it get boring once you are "established" with not too much hope of getting in the play offs and even less of automatics because every year teams come down and get ridiculous parachute payments?

L1 is abysmal and I don't want to suffer it again any time soon, we've been close to the play-offs a few times under Neil, so there has been enough interest. 4pts off 6th last season, 2pts off 6th in 17/18.

Definitely wouldn't say boring after what we witnessed in the league below, always enjoy going to the billy big bollock clubs and taking points off them.

We're owned by a billionaire, with his son ready to take over so not really too concerned about wage bills, not my money, just got to make sure you have saleable assets to manage the impact if you go down.

If this wage cap stuff gets rejected and it is imposed in League One then it will even harder to go down if you're managed correctly. I think this is a good time to be in this division.

In what way is League 1 is abysmal to you?

Teams parking the bus at Deepdale every week, very little quality, slow as shit tempo, forgettable away days even if you twat someone 4-0....

Championship is better in every way.

No doubt the quality is better, but that doesn't always translate into making games any more exciting.

Of course it's a matter of personal preference, but having watched us at a good 75% of our away games in both leagues in recent years. I think league 1 is by far better.
No hastle from home fans as such, genuine supporters and mostly better pubs.

Mostly referring to the away game as an event, rather than the overall piss up, I've had good days in Bradford...

Linked with Jimmy Dunne at Burnley, 23yr old centre back, was an Irish U21 and had loan spells at Accrington & Hearts. Think he's out of contract in the summer. Sounds up our street.

Rumours that Bournemouth want Davies and Pearson and could make a move this window.

Ben Davies has been brilliant lately and it'd be a massive blow to lose him with Bauer also being out for the rest of the season. Huntington has been great since coming back in but he's 33, so we would need to sign two centre backs as we can't rely on Storey.

Could be an interesting week.

We're sending Tyrese Omotoye on loan to Swindon Town for the rest of the season, which presumably means we've sorted Soto's work permit.

Would imagine that will be the last of our activity this window, unless we do get a free agent goalkeeper in after all to provide additional cover for Krul in McGovern's absence through injury.

Ryan Giles has signed on loan from Wolves until the end of the season.

He has been at Coventry but they have just signed or are signing a lad Josh Reid we were after in the summer from Ross County so Wolves have allowed him to come to us.

We haven't had a like for like replacement for the long term injured Joe Mattock so he is a welcome addition.

He is apparently well thought of at his parent club so hopefully he can add something to help us in our biennial relegation battle

I saw he had been recalled yesterday and thought we might have a go at that given we could do with someone in that position.

Some links to Greg Cunningham on loan, best left back i've seen for us but wasn't the same player after his injury and has only played 20+ times since leaving us in 2018. Would be a very stupid signing imo, ignoring all sentiment.

Assume Earl would go out on loan if it happened.

Ben Davies to Celtic looks nailed on, it'd take £2.5m-£3m to get the deal done this week according to reports, if not it'd be a pre contract agreement.

Bournemouth still sniffing supposedly will which certainly help us get a good fee for a guy with 6 months left if Celtic are in a rush, they just got £12m from selling Frimpong.

That’d be a really good price for a guy with 6 months left on his deal.

Ideally we’d be after Pearson and Davies to help push us over the line but it looks like we’re no longer in the running - doubt we’d be offering much more in terms of wages than you guys, and certainly not near what Celtic or Bournemouth would pay

Absolutely nothing on Pearson right now, it's pretty bizarre.

Looks like Greg Cunningham is coming back on loan then, loved him while he was here, just not sure if his legs can hack it any more. Can't see him being a success this time round.

We've supposedly had a bid of £300k for young Peterborough midfielder Flynn Clarke rejected. Knowing how Peterborough operate in the transfer market, they'll be wanting a fair bit more than that for him and I don't think we'll be willing to pay up what they will want.

Looks like Pearson to Bournemouth, fee agreed, medical in the next 24hrs.

Sell-on fee is the main thing really, United take a huge cut of any fee, heard £2.5m mentioned.

Bid of £700k for Flynn Clarke also rejected by Posh and considered by them to be derisory. I imagine they'll want at least £1 million for him and I can't see us forking that out for an 18-year old at this point in time.

While those negotiations presumably continue, we're apparently set to beat Brighton to the signing of young Bolton midfielder Regan Riley for a supposed fee of £250k.

Ben Davies has signed a pre-contract with Celtic according to reports.

Assume that means we keep him till the end of the season, i'd probably say he's the 3rd or 4th best centre back i've seen for PNE. Think the only thing that's stopped him getting a Prem move is how he can sometimes struggle with big bastards in the six yard box, everything else about him is top class.

Darnell Fisher linked to Boro.

Sepp Van Der Berg on loan from Liverpool rumoured.

Busy window.

Pearson to Bournemouth confirmed.
Horrible but expected day.

Cook-Pearson-Lerma is a serious midfield at this level.

Darnell Fisher joins Boro, out of contract in the summer and not offered a new one, fee was £300k supposedly.

My two favourite players from the last 5 or 6 years gone in the space of 4 hours....

We're set to sign former Villa keeper Nyland on a short-term deal until the end of the season as cover in McGovern's absence through injury.
