Rumour has it there has been big division between the recruitment team and Edwards on who & what is needed. Hence the in and out with Ngoy, dithering over Taylor, lack of clear identity to the signings and players we are linked with .Considering all of the rumours that have come out recently, our supposed recruitment strategy that has by and large been exceptional in the last 3-4 years has become a bit scattergun all of a sudden now they have cash on the hip.
This Dabo signing that they’re supposedly making today I’m struggling to understand and feels incredibly high risk. A 20yo who has played 12 times professionally in the Swedish PL signing for just under £4M, loaning him back for the rest of their season, rising to over £5M eventually.
We also seem to be messing players around… Taylor travelling all the way to Huddersfield on Wednesday only to turn around and be recalled. The McAtee situation another one. Look at Ngoy like last weekend… bringing him over for a medical and then going a “different direction”. I’ve worked a lot overseas - it’s not easy moving country, especially for a young adult.
Impossible to know but I wonder if when Edwards signed his contract extension with that came more, if unspecified, say over the recruitment policy and there has been inherent tension resulting from that. Would be a big mistake if so as recruitment has always been the bedrock of our success.
Wouldn’t normally give much credence to that sort of tittle tattle but it’s unarguable that something has gone wrong this summer. Possibly the first time since early John Still days that it feels like not everyone is on the same page
