Considering all of the rumours that have come out recently, our supposed recruitment strategy that has by and large been exceptional in the last 3-4 years has become a bit scattergun all of a sudden now they have cash on the hip.

This Dabo signing that they’re supposedly making today I’m struggling to understand and feels incredibly high risk. A 20yo who has played 12 times professionally in the Swedish PL signing for just under £4M, loaning him back for the rest of their season, rising to over £5M eventually.

We also seem to be messing players around… Taylor travelling all the way to Huddersfield on Wednesday only to turn around and be recalled. The McAtee situation another one. Look at Ngoy like last weekend… bringing him over for a medical and then going a “different direction”. I’ve worked a lot overseas - it’s not easy moving country, especially for a young adult.
Rumour has it there has been big division between the recruitment team and Edwards on who & what is needed. Hence the in and out with Ngoy, dithering over Taylor, lack of clear identity to the signings and players we are linked with .

Impossible to know but I wonder if when Edwards signed his contract extension with that came more, if unspecified, say over the recruitment policy and there has been inherent tension resulting from that. Would be a big mistake if so as recruitment has always been the bedrock of our success.

Wouldn’t normally give much credence to that sort of tittle tattle but it’s unarguable that something has gone wrong this summer. Possibly the first time since early John Still days that it feels like not everyone is on the same page

Seems Taylor will stay as Cannon is seemingly off to Stoke. Would have liked that signing tbh, looked really good when I’ve seen him

The tears in Blackpool are already flowing about Josh Bowler coming here. "Judas" already being thrown around. This is beautiful.

Their best player and cult hero of the last however many years.

He's a classic lower-league cart horse. He puts himself about, doesn't mind the physical side of the game but absolute honking ability on the ball. He's probably better than Collins who is our sole striker capable of playing alone upfront.

The word is that we're closing in on a Premier League striker loan (no idea who) and we're very close to announcing Nat Phillips on loan from Liverpool. The latter strikes me as a bit of a panic signing, given the investment it must be taking to get him to sign for us. I think even if we pay half his wages for the season that will make him our most expensive signing this season - if him being on £65k a week is true. Liverpool rejected a £4m bid from Turkey not a month ago, which just seems strange in order to send him on loan to us.

I do wonder if it's until January only.

After all this, it'll end up being us who made the bid. We do need a target man type.

We've sent Saxon Early on loan to Lincoln City till end of the season and hoping to sign an attacking midfielder.

Marcus Harness has joined. I’m really pleased about that signing, always struck me as a technical gifted player who can provide a spark. We need one.

It looks like we’re a striker and left back off what we needed, but who knows if we dip into free agency. I think this is us done for the night anyway.

Signed Lamine Fanne from AIK in Sweden. Not joining until January though as he will finish the Swedish season first.

Sums up the recruitment this summer, we need help and quality to freshen up a squad which is stuck in a rut and we sign a chap not available for half of the season instead, and at great risk given his relative lack of football and age.

We’ve lost all identity of what we are trying to do and we have probably got a bit too cute in some areas (in particular these buy and loan back things with the likes of McAtee, this guy, stunting the pathway of Taylor) for some time.

The club says the squad is better now than it was when we got promoted, at the moment I’d struggle to agree with that viewpoint.

Not signing a centre back is pure negligence by PNE.

Supposedly the Saudi club managed by Gerrard have made on offer for Kian Best. Mental decision for a 19yr old.

Rejected by the club and player.

Need to give him a run of games. Hughes isn't a regular starter at this level any more.

Good on him .

Looks like Rajovic is going back to Denmark on loan .

Odd move from us really - he isn’t that good but does get a goal or two and leaves us very light up front .

The LEP has run stories saying we should have room for a free transfer. We badly need another CB but I don't see any available who would be any good, unless there is a gem abroad who doesn't have a club.

A LB could be an option too and people have mentioned Brandon Williams, but I'm not sure what his situation is.

Edit - There's also one of those articles linking us and 4 other clubs to Cyrus Christie.

We were linked very briefly on deadline day - never heard of him so searched on twitter to find a compilation video of him wildly spraying passes haphazardly and showcasing a touch that even a rapist would consider too much.

Although, with that being said, he did seem to get some goals - mostly from inside the 6 yard box (I understand) but obviously not the right fit for what we need.

Saw that - maybe they knew he was surplus to requirements

Oh yes definitely isn't a great footballer and certain like you say scored a certain type of goal.

A very average footballer but knew where the net was if provided with service.

Cleverley wasn't really keen on him I suspect (but won't admit it in public)

Only issue is it leaves us with Bayo who although scored a cracker v you guys isn't much of a striker either and a fee young players who look promising but obviously raw and need time.

From absolutely nowhere we have signed Victor Moses who was a free agent

Probably needed as we were looking a bit short at wingback with Ogbene leaving.

Good player in his day and will be useful if he has the pace still .

You know fuck all about it to be honest. A quick check shows they have loaned money from Macquarie bank yet again which will be funding them day to day
So Barrie, what do you make about the recent rumours that Sheffield United’s takeover is now in doubt? Despite spending above their immediate competitors.

Every year we seem to sign an experienced pro as back up and they’ve always turned out to be fairly useful - Cameron Jerome, Henri Lansbury, Jacob Butterfield…
