It was basically a league team v a non league team today. Their tactics are so antiquated and non league style, I'm amazed they've gone unbeaten until now. Tried to ruffle us up but our 2 goals were class. We went a bit sloppy after the second goal but the game was won, so understandable.

Worrall is probably in the top 3 best players in the league. He's so good.

I feel much better about our chances. We've played 6 or 7 of the top 8 so far and lie in 7th. We now have a pretty good run of fixtures (barring orient) . Our players are a definite upgrade on the last few seasons and it seems like there is actually some thought on how to combat the opposition and that some work has been done in training.

We need to build a little run now and get ourselves in among the top 3 if we can.

Aye that’s what pleased me most today. It’s clear they had a plan but were good enough to execute it also.

I think the debate is over if there ever actually was one to be had in terms of the merits of this squad compared to last season. You only have to look at the corresponding fixture at VP from that season and how we struggled badly against the same tactics.

Other than that nice to see Jake get some minutes and he looked sharp I thought. I think Lloyd despite my scepticism at first he has something about him. Not going to trouble the scoresheet himself often but his linkup play and workrate will be very useful.

oseph Barton Esq. must be on borrowed time now surely?

I was just thinking that mate, no doubt he will be blaming the players. I honestly dont know why he bothers being in management, he's got enough ability to make a good living outside of the game
BTw how are your lads doing, steady start to the season and you must be optimistic about getting in the play offs come season end ?
Yeah we’re going along great at the minute cheers, winning every week in front of a packed Blundell Park is an unusual feeling but I’m loving it, it doesn’t even matter that it’s in non league as now Fenty has finally gone the whole atmosphere around the place has changed with transparent new owners and a team to finally be proud of who all look like they’d run through brick walls for Paul Hurst.
Playing better football in these first 6 games already than in the last 3 or 4 years of misery in League 2 and we may not get back up immediately (although I hope we do of course) but eventually we will and when we do we will be in a much stronger position than we have been for about the last 15 - 20 years.

Win on Friday and I'd be very pleased with our start. We look a solid midtable side at the moment and that's with injury problems.

You always seem to have injury problems though. Are you just more willing than most teams to sign players with injury records or is it a training thing?

This squad is better than last seasons for sure but I do think last seasons massively under performed, had DC been in charge from the start it would have been up there. He’d never have allowed what happened either side of the promotion form spells we had for 20 games either side of the problems on and off the field.

It’s now been a good start with today’s results, the huge overhaul has seen us sluggish to get going but seem to be getting better week on week as it clicks into place.

1 loss in 7 in the league now and 3 wins in 4 is positive but need to really push on now.

Worrall is a class, he’s consistently been at this level for years and that goal was a proper worldie. Cass is really impressing though, solid but great on the ball, don’t think I’ve seen us have a centre half who can go on mazy runs before. Would be a good investment if we could get him permanent come the end of the season.

8 nil scunthorpe next week always lose to them. Luckily there will only be about 80 away fans there as we are the smallest club in the division.

We deserved the win against a side clearly lacking in confidence, I thought we was more effective and efficient than dominant. Rovers had most of the ball but we used our possession better. The second half was a big non event, we kept our shape and defended well. I've watched alot worse sides than that Bristol Rovers side at this level, but for the sake of their club Barton has to move on because they literally created nothing, I think they changed their formation to match us up and didn't really seem to get to grips with it.

Ref was too whistle happy and gave all the soft free kicks against both sides, penalty I thought was harsh against us but in the first half Dan Happe got away with what seemed like a slip.

Our front three are currently on form, Aaron Drinan came to us with an appalling goal record, but has slotted well into our team and is a key component, Harry Smith is getting better with each game and cannot stop scoring and Theo Archibald is causing opponents all sorts of problems.

Only two things can stop us from having a good season IMO:

- Injuries to our attacking players, because on the bench we don't quite have the experienced back up to look too.
- A League One side comes in for Jackett if he keeps doing well - Think he'd be mad to move though tbh if anything was to happen as he has the full support of the club.

You might be right though I do think it was time to move on anyway as that group was getting old and that needed addressing sooner than later.

I’m a huge fan of Cass too. Armstrong and Muldoon were getting absolutely zero joy out of him or any of the other CB’s to be fair. Cass just looks like he has a bit extra time to play compared to most others. Very classy player. Unfortunately as I understand it Newcastle signed him to a long extension so doubt there’s any prospect of us getting him permanently.

Just a Barrovian thing. You not clicked on as to why the subs are always late to launch? Plenty of welding arms been broken over the years.

Yeah time was right for most of them for sure, and the facts remain what went on who knows but was clearly a fall out needed from that spell last season.

great win, thought harrogate were quite poor actually, especially at the back.

their antics were quite amusing really seen as how they all backfired. the guy who got sent off was lucky not to go 10 mins earlier. i don't think i've ever seen someone genuinely smash into a "tackle" on a freekick taker before.

the blatant dives from armstrong and power should have really seen a couple of bookings too.

i don't know what we've done to deserve david worrall. how he has stayed with us for so long is beyond me, there really can't be many better players in the league.

Remember if it was down to Aspin at one point he would have been out the door as he was completely frozen out. That’s something I will always be appreciative of Askey for as it was him who turned his stay at Vale around. Been our most important player certainly for the last three seasons now.

Happy today (though spend the 2nd half in the bar)

To go 50 minutes without conceding is a remarkable effort for our defence before the obvious and inevitable cock up happened for rochdales goal.

Rochdale we’re the better side throughout and realistically should of won, we managed to battle to another point though

from a mansfield perspective with the current players and format weve another point on the board - 42 more to go

Our lot were nervous from the off, can’t blame them after 4 losses on bounce, thought a point was about right.

Disastrous individual mistakes again costing us.

Bad news is just hitting us constantly at the moment, within a few days we’ve lost James Perch for the entire season while our two deadline day defensive signings are both out Nartey could be 8 weeks!
