I've been a little bit cheeky and had a dekko at the Tranmere Forum.
One post made me think and I had to check it out: -

"Need to keep 11 players on the pitch. Games vs FGR usually result in a red card & normally to them"

The guy is not wrong, 4 reds to FGR and one to Tranmere in 12 games. But theirs was in last game and FGR's reds were under different managers. Under Rob Edwards the card count had dropped.
And as a matter of interest only one game ended with the team of ten losing: - FGR on 10 May 2019.

Mansfield won't get a better chance than Saturday to get their club record number of wins in a row, we're completely out of sorts and out of form.

We're always in games and our games are always tight decided by the odd goal and moments, but we've barely looked like scoring since coming back and the last goal we scored was a lucky own goal which counted for nothing 6 weeks ago.

Only 5 of our starting XI was over 24 years old on Tuesday and our central midfield consisted of two 20 year olds, one of which is out of form and the other was making his league debut. I would expect Darren Pratley to return and Ethan Coleman to partner him. Hopefully Theo Archibald is back too.

We're not very streetwise away from home and haven't lost heavily this season so far, so we're due a bit of a dicking.

Which of the 3 Tranmere forums did you get the original quote from?

From memory, think only Gunning’s was a straight red, the others were for two yellows. The one Macdonald got this season was for a succession of minor fouls and perhaps he was a bit unfortunate. It was also at a time when he was coming back from injury and not fully match fit.

The referee for Saturday’s game is Lee Swabey, who I haven’t seen in action before, don’t think he’s done a game at Prenton Park. He’s not one who grabs the headlines, so have to hope a safe pair of hands and the game doesn’t become all about him. Optimistically I’m not expecting a high foul count, though straight reds can come out of nowhere.

You are correct, Gunnings was the only straight Red.

Posted Rob Edwards pre-match interview above and then had a look for Mickey Mellon's pre-match interview and found it was only available to subscribers. Shucks.
However there are so many other videos of Tranmere boss Mickey talking about games against FGR. He probably has more experience than any other manager of competing against FGR. A bonus for Tranmere in that respect.

Ticket sales now over 9000 with 200 from Forest Green. Looking at 10,000+ which would be brilliant.

Will be interesting to see what two out of McPake, Morris and Hawkes start tomorrow as can see Spearing and O’Connor remaining in the middle with Jolley and Hemmings up top. 3 very good options to choose from and supplemented by Glatzel and McManaman who can add to that attacking midfield quality.

Is it pay on the day for away fans?

I’ve always thought that over a season, 10% of your home crowd going away is a pretty solid number. For FGR to sell less than 10% the day before the biggest game of their season is pretty poor IMO

Another signing due ahead of tomorrow but looks like we’ve another injury so hopefully not another key man!

Worrall is back from Covid so that is a big plus, especially against a side we will look to be on the attack against.

That is about ten percent of the home crowd bit of our attendance give or take. As I've said, reckon it will end up around 300 which is nothing special of course but decent for us.

The least optimistic I've been about a match all season. Baker-Richardson, who didn't make a single appearance in his six months here, is guaranteed to grab a goal or two.

Our fans already seem in meltdown mode, so defeat will send them into a frenzy. Can't wait.

Why is it the biggest game of their season? They played Northampton when they were second a few weeks back.
Its not really any more important than any others.

Still hoping for a late signing today, otherwise our forward line will be a bit threadbare.

Northampton v FGR: crowd 5,415 with 276 away supporters.
Northampton is a lot closer to Nailsworth than Tranmere but I expect same sort of away number at Prenton Park.
Having said that Tranmere Rover FC is the team that most FGR supporters look forward to their team playing. So yes it might be that more away supporters attend this game than any other so far this season.

It is a very odd rivalry considering the distance and relative size of the two clubs.

I had a conversation with some friends before our game last Saturday about the teams we consider rivals...the consensus seemed to be that our biggest rivalry is with Tranmere, Grimsby and Lincoln, nobody mentioned Swindon, Bristol Rovers or Cheltenham. The reason is probably that we have had virtually no games outside the Football League with the three teams who are local to us, indeed many of our fans have followed one of them in the past before moving to us, but we have had loads of games in recent years against the three teams from further away...plus, unsurprisingly, the outcome of most of the games has been important to one or both of the teams concerned. Tomorrow should be an absolute cracker, really hard to predict which way it will go.

I'm hurt, we have had plenty of games through the years, including when we were in the Conference, and at the old ground too!

Hate to think how poor we will become since the lads have got their Nuffield Health membership.

Lee Swabey lives in Devon.
I don't think he has refereed any FGR games so far this season.
Yep, lets hope he has a good game, as I'm sure he will knowing that Mike Dean might be looking over his shoulder. :)

Checked the records that shows Exeter 11 wins, 12 draws and a mere 2 FGR wins.
The first match between the two sides in EFL2 was in Sept 2017.
The previous match was in the Blue Square Premier on 26 Jan 2008 at a time when FGR was truly a Village Team. So much has happened since 2008 with FGR having regular promotion matches against Grimsby, Lincoln or Tranmere in front of big crowds.
That is why those three teams are top of list.

So you only have rivalries against teams you can beat

I heard that Cooper chose the worst gym in town as part of his grand plan to get the sack.

Well when we had that season in the NL -- We definately played you. Possibly 4 times.

Not exactly true.
Lincoln under the Cowley brothers always gave us a hiding.
Grimsby beat us in a Wembley final.
And against Tranmere we have had one play-off win and one play-off defeat.

You certainly did and we beat you home and away in league and you beat us home and away in play-offs.
But it was one season, we regularly played Grimsby, Lincoln and Tranmere which did generate enthusiasm against those teams.
