There is no doubt most of our squad are shite. Paul Hurst really did a special job with the FA Cup windfall…
I think we have been extremely lucky to play Crewe & Newport at exactly the right time. Probably a third in Swindon on Saturday - without those 3 games I think we would have been relegated .

There will never be another team like this Notts side. We’ve set some records that will never be broken.

Goals, penalties and vibes baby

Said it all season the undisputed 'Entertainers'

Big congratulations to Stockport , my tip for the title before a ball was kicked. Imagine how far clear they would have been if they didn't have half a team or more out injured all season. Cakewalk

Reading the comments from my fellow pies and they hit the nail on the head so many times. Excellent work fellas. We have too little character, too little aggression and we need to change that. We have one leader in the squad and he shouldn't be starting games IMO. That says it's all.

My biggest concern, even more than Part Time Stu, is not being able to move on underperforming, simply not good enough contracted players. I doubt we will go down the always unpleasant bloated squad approach so Denmark we have a problem.

If the radar can be half as effective at identifying and buying a defender as they are with the forwards we'll be fine.

On that side of the pitch we are simply superb at recruitment. Maybe the super computer doesn't do defensive stats.

Great attendance once again at the Lane.

Crowley is a quality player. Only 26. I know Langstaff is the one you think you can and will get the ££ for and everyone wants a goalscorer, but I'm never taken aback by his overall game when I watch him. I'd be all over Crowley personally.

McGoldrick seems to have been have been a bit of a disappointment for you this season. I'm sure he's had his moments but he was one of the best L1 players in 22/23 by most accounts and was just pure fluke you got him because he was a Notts boy.

He is a quality player, he's just another excellent piece of business we have done in terms of our attacking personnel. We don't want him going anywhere.

As we know effective strikers tend to go for noticeably more than any other position including creative midfielders. Langstaff is a very effective striker, his around game clearly doesn't match his goalscoring exploits but neither does Erling Haaland and I'm sure he's got many suitors for his services. It's a cliche but hardest thing to do in football is put the ball into the net, and he does it .... a lot. That's high value for all clubs. He's only just turned 27 and has pace which is important. Personally I would cash in if presented with the opportunity but if not then we have the best goal scorer in L2 again next season.

Agree regarding McGoldrick, unbelievable signing and one that couldn't and shouldn't have been missed. His last season for Derby was simply incredible, perhaps a false dawn to some degree. He's shown lots of quality in lots of matches, and he's been good overall but I and others at Derby and Notts expected him to absolutely rinse this league with his Championship talent and he simply hasn't. Saying that with no Scott (injury) and no Jatta until recently he has very much been needed and played more than expected. He's not 26/27 and at his age rightly he can drop off at any time.

Apparently Parky was at your game last night. Don't think he'd specifically take the time to go on a scouting mission on Stockport for a dead rubber match so he's obviously looking at one or two players.

Question is, who?

Accrington just wanted to keep the score down last night, once we went 1-0 up the goalkeeper started time wasting. Not a great game of football but just about getting over the line, special scenes afterwards.

Can go and enjoy Gillingham Saturday now, Clough will want to win but I imagine the players may feel a bit rough!

He was indeed.

It can surely be only one of three, depends what you need most for next season in L1.

The play leading up to the missed penalty is specialist even for Notts, farting around with the ball inside their own 6 yard box. There's no option but to buy an entirely new defence, keeper and most of the midfield as those players are too far gone in their play-at-all-cost brainwashing and the money spent sending them all to therapy just isn't worth it.

Langstaff whipping his shirt off over his head and wildly celebrating his consolation goal at 4-0 down hardly smacks of elite team mentality either.

If that were true it would smack of the league's top scorer, team of the year member, and a guy scoring his 27th goal of the season. Safe to say he stepped up.

Talking of penalties, not sure either were, especially the 2nd. Thankfully integrity in the sport was quickly resumed with a deliberate penalty miss. He knew it should have been no more than a corner. Classy from the champions, seriously doubt that would have occured by any of the other promoted sides.

New defence and the occasional row Z please.

Crowley's a quality footballer but is only ever going to work in a team that plays like us I think, there's a reason he's having the best season of his career.

I dunno what’s going off at County but I feel like it’s going to take a lot to turn it around, I’m no longer sure it’s just better players and managers they need.

I wasn't sure about either of the penalties either (I was on a stream not at the game though), I think the first one has hit his hand but just not sure it was in an enough of an unnatural postion. I actually the one we pulled back from the short corner on Powell at 0-0 looked the biggest penalty shout and that wasn't given.

Congrats to Stockport, well deserving champions. Surely bigger clubs will come sniffing around Challinor? has he been rumoured to be of interest to anyone in the past? Not saying he'd leave Stockport as they have the potential to go higher under him but he's done a brilliant job both there and elsewhere.

Nice to see Mansfield make it too. The three best teams over the season have made it up, as is right.

Play offs is very tough to call.

Can Stockport keep hold of them if we come knocking though?
We don't have any good players to nick mate- look at the team of the year. You've got plenty and apart from that it's Mansfield and Notts players and I think they threw some random Bradford right back at in there to appease them.

Probably better to bin him off in the summer and go again, have they won a home game under him?

Charlton came for when they sacked Dean Holden back in August. Don't think he fancied it and they got Michael Appleton.

He's North West based which may have swayed that one, Charlton are a bit boring too.

I think it would be a Preston, Blackburn type who would get him at this stage if that arose.

If it ever occurred, he'd go with my well wishes. He's done an unbelievable job here and his overall record is superb. I personally don't see us making the Champ any time soon so he'd be mad not to take one up there. If it went tits up there, League One/Two clubs would still hoover him up so he should take it if offered IMO.

That Appleton can't keep getting away with it. I presume he's already long been sacked by Charlton and got another good L1 job by now.

I honestly don't think it's rocket science, we need Palmer back and a new goalkeeper and defence. There's nothing we can do with what we currently have - the players you'd need to fix what's wrong aren't in our squad currently.

Huge question marks over Notts' head coach clearly and I'd lose no sleep if he went but the last thing we want to do is the classic panicked fan request of a complete clearout :ffs: and change everything. If the recruitment team can't address the issues this summer then they need seriously questioning. Just two upgrades in defence this season and I believe we finish in the playoffs.

I much prefer the careful and considered proactive approach of our owners over the reckless and reactionary one we and many clubs have adopted before. So far it's been successful on the pitch and very successful off it.

Fans of other clubs continue to forget that it's out first season back at this level, experience is key. Brian's son knows that better than anyone.

Plus we didn't have the playing budget to compete with the heavyweights at the top. They are operating on a different level compared to our mid table budget.

Oh and unlike other promotion hopefuls we had our boss poached by one of the big boys in January but no need to factor that in to the conversation :bg:

I thought today would be rightly all about Stockport and Mansfield. I was mistaken. Standard :shifty:

It’s hard to gauge from 2 games and whoever wins the title deserves it on merit.

Over 2 games (league) wrexham were by far the best team we’ve played, we struggled to get round the defence, whereas we were much the better side in both games against stockport - interesting how these dynamics play out.

You always have our number at Field Mill.

New Years Day we were bare bones, missing key players and just had that hectic Christmas schedule where we couldn't rotate like you were doing.

Just like we caught Wrexham on a good day for us and bad day for them at EP in September when we beat them 5-0.

1-1 at Crawley a good result in the end, but a lot of controversy about the Crawley equaliser. Farman made a good save, but the ball rebounded onto the arm of Feely who was facing away from goal. Neither the ref of assistant give anything and play goes on for 30-40 seconds before the ref suddenly points to spot. Crawley equalise from the spot and other than a missed header late on they didn't really create anything clear cut afterwards. The Crawley keeper makes at least 4 top class saves in the last 15 mins before Newby scores for Barrow in the 90th min only for the ref to disallow it (possibly for a push?)

Probably handball but you could never tell with that ref.

I was behind the goal and in line with Newby. I thought he handled it and he looked a bit sheepish as he put it in the net. He didn't argue or protest it being written off.

Anyway, only my second Barrow game this season and (apart from finishing being a foot or two off plus a MoM performance from the Crawley keeper) it was as good and solid a performance as any I've seen on iFollow, especially in the second half. Get Stockton back and the play-offs are on. After that, who knows?

Aye you don’t tend to do well at our place.

It’s going to be a tough season for us for sure (can’t speak for yourselves) wrexham should’ve won this league with their budget but they should still be aiming top half.

He’d probably win golden boot with just his goals against his old clubs if he didn’t have that fraud Alexander managing him at least

Would Challinor consider switching to a club in the same division? I reckon Evatt at Bolton will get the chop if they don't go up.

And that Rose has stayed fit nearly all season. PH has done this twice now - fucked off or been fucked off, leaving us with only one competent forward on the books. Last time it was Bogle, who was almost immediately sold.
