Comfortable win, even though they camped 11 men behind the ball all night. One of those matches where we’d probably have failed to win last season.

Number of first team players rested for the weekend, Morecambe never looked like scoring. I’d be very surprised if they stay up, but good luck to them.

Positive signs for the season continuing. Roll on Saturday, should be a cracking game and atmosphere.

Excellent result for us last night. Like YEO YEO YEO, I looked at the starting XI and missing our first choice 'keeper and playing a striker in CM and I thought we'd be in for a tough night (perhaps subconsciously aware of what seems a poor record at Oxford where everything seems to have gone wrong in the last two or three years).

Maguire was on the bench but no real chance of bringing experience of it to see the game out, the subs were 19, 21 and 22.

Sounded like we saw both sides of us last night - a decent footballing first half then digging in for the second and the latter is certainly something we've had so far this season that we lacked last.

If we'd have lost last night it would have been a poor start, but that win makes it look half decent now.
For some perspective it was a typical performance from us. We conceded two shots culminating in two goals. The first was weak defending. Our full back Sam Long didn't get anywhere near to closing the cross down and our marking was worrying. Neither centre half were within five yards which is concerning.

Scully each time he has played against us has been clinical. We made a mistake, failed to close down but his finish was excellent. Beyond the two efforts, I'm not entirely sure I'd call it a decent footballing first half though. You definitely couldn't have asked for much more though. You semi-dug in second half but to be truthful we just don't have the personnel to be beating sides. It's a great time to play us.

What I would say is that I don't think you will struggle this season based on that. A better side than Bristol Rovers and largely comparable to Cambridge (albeit a non-scientific analysis on having seen no more than 90 minutes!).

Not surprised it was called off if you were planning on playing the game on a road.
Only picture I could find inside TNL complex.
The pitch is only yards away behind cameraman.

No Santos, Dapo, MJ Williams or Dion Charles last night and it was quite comfortable. We didn't need to get out of first gear. They picked 6 defenders - back 5 and 1 playing as a cdm in front of them. Must be hard to watch week in week out having 20-30% possession. They were very well organised like they usually are and there were a couple of moments in the game where they could have broken away but looked completely toothless up front. If Stockton leaves I really can't see them staying up.

Last 25 league games we've won 16, drawn 7 and lost 3 and only league goal we've conceded this season was a corner against Ipswich on the opening day. Starting to get a bit ahead of myself and think we might have a great chance this season but a long way to go and we have a proper test at the weekend against Wednesday - that will give a good indication as to where both teams are.

I had to laugh when i saw Derek Adams stating they should/ could have drawn or even won at Bolton last night!
That guy is the most deluded man in football. And that's saying something while Steve Evans is still a manager....

I don't know, Karl Robinson runs everyone pretty close. I'm not sure he's ever taken charge of a game where his side weren't the better one!

He has, I’ve seen plenty of them when he was our manager.

You know it's proper football as it's meant to be played when the ball keeps rolling under parked cars.

Did you find somewhere decent to drink pre-game in the end?

No, tell us more …
We were hopeless. It’s like Saturday against Peterborough sucked the life out of us. I lost count the amount of times Mumba either controlled or passed the ball out for a throw.

We stupidly overplayed, Gillesphey playing a stupid ball into Houghton, he goes down hoping for a foul, you hit Stockley at the back post and then get the tap in.

The red card was harsh, and I initially thought it had hit his face, but it did hit his hand. 3rd one was a beauty. I was right in line with it. Great strike.

So many off passes, completely unlike us. That lad playing on your right hand side was absolutely rinsing our defence sadly. But to be fair to Gillesphey he had no support from Mumba. I do think had we of got to half time at 1-0 down it could of been a different game, as before the penalty we were actually growing into it.

Only ever left early once before, Luton away, when we were 4-0 down at HT. Bonus was getting back to central London with ease, avoiding the rush at FT. My third trip to The Valley, always enjoy the away day and it’s a nice stadium but I think I’ll give it a miss now, 3 games, 9 goals conceded and the 1 goal we did score, I’d already left so didn’t see it.

Think we’ll see a reaction on Saturday now, that was completely unlike us, but you were very good going forward, although our dreadful defending and passing didn’t help.

Can’t really argue with any of that except maybe the sending off, from the replays it does look as though his arm is an “unnatural position” so can see why he got a red.

It did come at the perfect time for us as we had started to become a little bit sloppy and as you say you were starting to grow into it and even maybe starting to take control a little bit.

Third goal was a stunner and as soon as it hit the net that was game over. Knew there was no way you could recover from that.

Rak-Sakyi, yeah was his debut, was very impressed, he’s going to be a problem for a lot of sides.

Bit of a gift for your goal but to be fair to Whittaker he took full advantage of it, was a bit worried as have seen many a Charlton team capitulate over the years but happily we just took control back immediately and really could and maybe should have been 6,7 or even 8 in the end.

Your fans were top notch though, fair play.

As eluded to before we look like different teams away and at home. Mind boggling.

Is the double jeopardy thing not a thing anymore? The handball whilst an 'unnatural' position was not intentional and the penalty was the advantage gained to the opposition no?

Hopefully a result like that doesn't completely derail us.. long way to go!

It's because it was a handball I think (and deemed to be going in).

From memory, the double jeopardy was brought in for tackles i.e. when a player makes a genuine attempt for the ball but fouls his man, he would previously have been sent off whereas now it's only a yellow. So it's not for a handball or blatant push/trip type of foul.

Correct yes, if its an attempt to win the ball its not a red in the box, if its intent then its red.

Handballs would be red if stopping a certain goal.

Yeah, Wilson didn’t stop a goal scoring opportunity, he stopped a certain goal.

We beat Accrington 2-1 tonight in the game rearranged due to the downpour on 16 August. Only seven games in but it felt like a relegation scrap. Much praise to our two on-loan centre backs who are aged about 40 put together.

Big result for FGR, whilst the table means nothing yet, it’s important not to let that points gap start developing between you and safety.
