A big chance for us to cut the gap on the top six in midweek with Morecambe coming to ours.

Midweek has some key games at both ends of the pitch

Wigan v Oxford the standout fixture up the top reaches of the table whilst Crewe will be hoping to inflict more pain on Gillingham and kick start a run at getting above the line.

We are getting beat by Rotherham just hopefully not by the six goals they scored in the pizza cup

We’ve got Bolton away on Tuesday and again I’d snap your hand off for a draw to keep edging closer to safety. Bolton have signed the world these past couple of weeks and seem to have hit a purple patch again after a poor run.

Bonner has said we’re due to sign a striker tomorrow and I’d expect them to play a part as we’re very light up top with Smith there on his own. Also don’t expect Wes to play so imagine May will be further forward. Will be a tough ask to get anything out of it.

Then we’re playing Luton on Saturday at 5.30 in the cup. It’s a bit of a free swing and will be a good test of how good we are against a good championship side. Should be a cracking atmosphere too as there’s always a bit of needle in our games. Oh and no replays which will add to it too, will stop Luton from settling for a draw and getting us back to theirs. Obviously fancy it as I would against most sides at home.

Our Monday night game with Charlton has really fallen between the cracks. It's like nobody is interested in two mid-table teams :dk:
A win for you lot and you're back in the mix with games in hand still.

True, but you need to score goals to win games. Not sure we have that particular skill.

If Portsmouth play Jacobs more they would be a decent top 6 threat but for some reason he is constantly omitted? Even if he starts a lot now could be too late. I think the top 6 look very good and could take 80+ points to make the play offs this season.

Couldn't agree more. The tactic seems to be to huff and puff for 75 minutes and then throw Jacobs on in desperation. Apparently he's not generally starting as he's not good at the high press.

I get that the Cowleys have a specific way that they want to play, but surely there's room for just one player who can pick a pass up front?

How I wish we was a mid-table team rather than looking over our shoulders and being ecstatic that Accrington salvaged a draw against Morecambe.

Mad stuff. He was effective for us at the top because he had good footwork and was good at high pressing against, we got a few goals were he knicked the ball of the defenders. Always tracked back well too.

Either thr Cowleys have had a funny turn or maybe due to injuries over the past 2 years or so that he's not as effective at it now but like you say every team needs that one attacking player that can unlock the defence. No point keeping tight and not conceding many if you aren't scoring.

MK for us on Saturday, a game that will suit us more than last weekends game.

Walsh might be back in the squad, Jackson got 70 minutes on Saturday on his return but Bishop went off injured.

We haven’t lost a game after taking the lead this season and Cambridge haven’t won one after going a goal down either…. So we know what we have to do. We should be confident after Saturday but Sunderland were very open … completely different test for us as we usually struggle with compact opponents that get men behind the ball. Think it will be a tight one.

We've lost this already. 2 goals to win? No chance. About a yard offside but you win some, lose some.

Big loss for Portsmouth. They would have been level with Ipswich with 2 games in hand. Playoffs still doable as they have only played 27.

6 wins from 6 and 9 wins from 10 at Fratton Park.

Absolutely ridiculous.

You even brought your own linesman this time! Well deserved win though. You were the only team that looked dangerous until we reached desperation stage in the final 15 minutes.

We look a completely different team when Jacobs is on the pitch. He had been ill all week apparently so I'll let the Cowleys off that he didn't start. However, given their history he probably wouldn't have started anyway. If he's not the first name on the team sheet this weekend then I fully expect the fans to turn on the Cowleys. They've been shown a lot of patience up to now after replacing the unpopular Jackett, but there are signs that patience is wearing thin after a fairly uninspiring transfer window.

Bolton away which looks very difficult after they beat Sunderland 6-0, but we’re in decent form albeit short on numbers which I don’t think any will be back for tonight’s game, we do have a new signing in tolaj but it’s a big ask for him tonight having never been played a minute of lge football.

Would snap your hand off for a point.

Shame this game had to move to a Tuesday as it’s one I’d have loved to go to, hopefully next year it will be on a Saturday providing we’re both in the same lge.

Yeah. Didn’t realise how far offside he was until I saw clips on the train home. Will take it, we’re so often on the wrong end of those types of things.

Definitely the better side though and deserved the win, a little more composure in and around the box and we could have had a couple more.

Jacobs is a good player, I remember him being brilliant against us for Wigan a few years back.

On to Wimbledon Saturday now, really need another 3 points as a tough run of fixtures follows.

Yeah I’m gutted this was moved to a Tuesday too. I’ve got a mate who’s a Bolton fan who moved back to Lancashire from Cambridge last year and a group of us had earmarked it. Not been to the Reebok either and I don’t get to many away games but midweek ain’t happening sadly, shame to miss it. That bloody cup run. ;-)

It’s impossible to know with Tolaj, he’s a total unknown quantity to all of us. I would definitely take a point too. We’re a bit depleted and Bolton seem to be making confident sounds at the moment. Coming away with any points would be a great result.

Bishop has been subbed in the 5 of the last 6 games mate, they're 'managing it' apparently.
Got one his 'niggles' he was famous for at Ipswich.
Hopefully he can a couple of games off now nearly everyone is fit and when he returns play in midfield.

Wednesday at home for us Saturday in our last throw of the dice to get anywhere remotely near the play offs.
Hopefully morecambe knacker them out tonight so we can take advantage Saturday. We have 4 new signings too.
Away end already sold out as expected. Usually enjoy a few beers with the wendies in the navigation or prince Alfred pub after the game. Good bunch of lads who enjoy a bit of friendly banter.

Only change we might make is to rest Kieran Lee tonight but he was so so good on Saturday and after a 6-0 do you change the team to rest someone? I’m not sure. We will be confident but it’s a very different challenge against you. Sunderland were open and tried to play expansively and we ripped them to shreds. We tend to outfootball a lot of the possession based teams like Ipswich and Sunderland but struggle to break teams down that sit in and hit us on the break or are very direct. Not sure what to expect… would take a scrappy 1-0 win right now.

Ended McKenna's winning start, ended Shrewsbury's unbeaten home run they were on, smashed a team who were joint top at the time 6-0, three clean sheets in a row, new striker hitting the ground running with goals, ended the window with all main targets being acquired! it's going too well... putting a bet on Cambridge tonight.

Please no 4-2-3-1, the reason behind our lacklustre home performances were individual magic has bailed us out. 3-4-2-1 and add some width the stretch teams and go for it tonight.
