Good game that, thought we had the better chances throughout the 90mins and stopped playing it long so much 2nd half, we got digby, boateng and Wes more involved with some nice passes and with mullin up top we finally have a striker who’s banging them in.

thought vale looked decent, lively in midfield and always pressing but thought they lacked a bit in the final third.

excellent result and full credit to bonner and the team.

up the u’s

What about your pen that wasn’t even in the area?

I think Port Vale are a very good side and your fans on here talk a lot of sense but I think emotions are high. We deserved that over 90.

Wow I think emotions are running high by Vale fans posting rubbish on here. We battered you second half.

You could never press us for 90 mins like you did in the first. You huffed and puffed in the second half and once Hoolahan got on the ball you had no answer. How long can we say Paul Mullin is in a purple patch? He run Smith and Legge ragged all game and playing up front on his own.

11 goals in October!!

a very much deserved 3 points over the 90.
Battered is a little bit of an exaggeration.. you were the better side for the opening 20 minutes of the 2nd half and then you just sat back and soaked up the pressure.

You will see the negative to our second goal but look at our move for the goal. Boateng with a splitting pass and Dunk laid it on a plate for Mullin.

You’re right, battered was a bit too far but we were much the better side.

I agree, you did deserve it over the 90 minutes, I think we had the potential to win the game because I think it’s fair to say we had a lot of the ball but did nothing with it, having the ball and passing it side ways and backwards was never going to really trouble you, you attack really well and had that cutting edge in the final third that wins you games.

Only difference was they took their chances, all three on target that they had and we didn’t; they are playing with confidence we aren’t up top.

We need Amoo and Manny back but expect even if fit he will stick with this XI at Oldham.

Whitehead was poor again, take him out for Manny and it’s like going from a Ford Sierra to a Porsche in the middle! He’s laboured, sloppy in possession. If only Manny was made of Spaghetti!

Not sure why he took so long to get Dave on either. Really frustrating with his subs at the minute. He wanted the squad and has been given it but doesn’t use it!

Well deserved win for the mighty U's and I strongly suspect most Vale fans on here must've been watching a different game cos we were clearly the better side in the second half. So they missed a couple of decent chances but so what, so did we, in fact the stats back me up.

Anyway, I have my doubts on the two pennos - ours was apparently given for a handball but I dunno. Theirs was outside the box.

Worrall should take up acting. I lost count of the number of times he tried to con whistlin Kettle.

A highly entertaining game all things considered, and I'm sure the two sides will be in the top 7 come the end of the season.

I don’t think anything bad of your second goal, it was a great move. Your team deserves hell of a lot of credit for how you play, I’d much prefer to be paying £10 to watch my side attack with your kind of intent than how I’ve seen vale in the last few weeks. I’d be optimistic if I was you, I don’t think anyone is going to run away with this league but I think you guys will certainly be amongst it if you can keep your attackers fit

I agree, Whitehead was woeful! Starts to worry me really that we were all guilty of thinking we had a lot of depth but a few out of form players and a few injuries, we look a little shaky! If we can convert our chances and maybe just have a player or two take a few risks in the final third it can quite easily be a different story! I don’t know if any other vale fan has noticed this but does it not annoy anyone else that we are always looking to play corners short? Last season we had so many goals come from Smith and Legge, it just doesn’t make sense to me why you would suddenly try to pass it out

I am worried we won’t make the top 7 and that would be a huge failure if we don’t. He has been given the players to improve on last year and can’t moan in the past that we’ve had bad owners or support.

Need to get back to what we were doing last season quickly. We’ve nearly lost half the games we lost in total last season.

I don’t think he is at risk of the sack nor should be but he has to find the solution, injuries are a huge problem and sure had Amoo, Manny or McKirdy been fit we would have been a lot more dangerous tonight to compliment our play. Pressure will mount if things don’t turn around.

Defensively we look strong, they’ve not had many chances against us tonight, one pen, hit the post once, Mullins miss midway through and unfortunately for us they’ve got a lad playing high on confidence in the form of his life but despite the play and plenty of midfield possession we still look laboured and trying to find that pin point pass. I’d be tempted to stick with Pope away from home.

Caught cold then huffed and puffed but couldn't get past a solid Us defence. Plenty of possession but barely tested the keeper.

Yep switched off at the start, then passed it around for fun without creating too much. Ended up with Matt, Collins, Young, March and Bailey all on the pitch so can't say we didn't go for it, couple of decent shouts for a pen but not our night.

On the plus side, I keep looking towards the bottom of the table through instinct and then have to work my way up to find us, which is a novelty.

I said it before the season and the fact still remains that we don’t score enough goals. It’s rare that teams get promoted by only managing 1 or 2 goals a game throughout the season.

Cambridge took the lead early in the second half and after that I never really thought that we’d get an equaliser. I thought we were the better side in the first half but Cambridge deservedly won the game in the second.

I think that having a stronger squad is causing us more harm than good. Askey clearly doesn’t know his strongest 11 yet. We’ve tried different combinations in attack and midfield and none have really excelled yet. Also, the reluctance in Askey to be proactive with his subs and tactics to change the game is baffling, it’s always too little too late.

Not noticed it too much, Worrall has had a dip in form that’s a huge worry, last season he’s up there with De Brunye for stats in the top four divisions on key passes and crossing but looks way off the boil at the minute. Similar to Burgess who was outstanding last season.

I expected a strong start with much the same squad and the expectation after three great results but 3 losses in 4 arguably winning the toughest one on paper just sums us up really.

Huge huge game Saturday now.

We have a potential top 3 best 11 guided by a mid-table manager.

He hasn’t been able to use it in fairness, I’m worried by the amount of injuries and niggles a bit as it’s been a huge problem. We can’t name our strongest XI at the moment, closest to doing so was the first two games which we won.

Couldn’t agree anymore with you. It’s like going an all you can eat restaurant and over facing yourself with too many dishes. Askey seems to work better with a small bunch of players where the game plan stays the same and the subs pick themselves. Goalkeeper, back four and Joyce picks itself really so he only needs to pick the attack.

Disappointed to only draw a game we should really have won easily. Until we can start scoring more from what we create though that's likely to happen a lot this season

There are simply no goals coming from our forward players, Kayode is meant to be our goal scoring striker yet he looks nothing like one.

It's a decent away point in the end I suppose and keeps us under the radar, but we have to be more clinical with these chances or we'll drift away.

Didn't think either team played particularly well tonight. There was next to no difference over the 90 minutes between the two sides other than a clinical striker that's red hot right now, which I gave credit for. Not sure who you were missing but we were missing Amoo and Oyeleke who are both among our best players, and at this level one or two players make a massive difference. Never a 3-1 game that, but you took most of your chances and you're top of the league so are clearly doing a lot of things right.

You still didn't batter us in any part of the game though.

Kayode was off it tonight but usually he does a good job in running defenders absolutely ragged, must be a nightmare to play against, doesn’t give defenders a second. He was good on Saturday.

Poor game but it’s 3 points so happy days. Sat back again after going in front - should have kept pressure up and put the game to bed. Stevenage were clueless and are gonna be in trouble again this season based on this evening.

He needs to be scoring that's what he was brought in for, especially as Toure can't hit a barn door as shown again tonight.
