Something I didn't get with your team tonight was that whole playing it short from goal kicks etc. None of them seemed particularly comfortable with the ball especially the LCB Dorsett who looked very shaky to me.

In terms of goalmouth action I think it's accurate to say that but I felt we were the team who controlled the pace of the game throughout really. Apart from one or two very long range attempts can't even remember Dale getting near to our third of the pitch.

Can't disagree with what you say, I have been saying for 2 seasons that we need to stop this playing it out from the back because we don't have good enough players to do it safely.

Our pitch (supposed to be a £600k complete new one laid 18 months ago) is awful...bloody awful. Serious questions need to be asked of the contractors, and the former CEO who oversaw it's installation (or did he?)

There's no doubt that Vale were the stronger team throughout, and should have won with ease, but I would say that you just weren't keen enough to shoot, or an easy victory was there for the taking.

Another observation; I reckon on average the PV players were fitter, stronger and much taller than our players who must surely be amongst the smallest in the league.

Tonight we were truly dynamite against a side that had pulled off two decent wins in their last two games. 11 goals scored an 0 conceded in the last 3 games and things are looking up. Its well documented that we suffered badly with loan recalls in January but who'd have thought it our replacements are all better.
Early days in the road to recovery but I will be surprised if we dont make the top 3 this season. Well done to Ben Garner and Ben Chorley on tactics, game management and recruitment. Also to the Brovers fan who said they had the best midfielder in the league? Are you sure as Louis Reed is a consistent 8/9 out of 10 EVERY Game.

I agree with all that. We are going to have to play better than that against Exeter, but the Mem will be rocking after another win!
Positive signs though, right? Play badly and still win.

Shame most results went against us tonight. After Walsalls win on Saturday, I thought they'd nick at least a point tbh

Yep. Gotten worse every season since Rupp took control. I hear there's a protest being planned over on that Bantamstalk forum.
Yeh, just seen it and looks like it's being planned for the Swindon game next week, although looks like a boycott rather than a protest. I'm in.

That's the way to deal with these owners. Probably the most effective thing that happened in getting rid of Smurthwaite was starving him out by withholding on season ticket renewals and not buying food and drink in the stadium etc. That's the only language the likes of them really understand.

Just radio comms for me, always find it hard to tell what's happening most of the time, think Soup Ladle was watching it.
Nope had a bbq at mine and got mortal. Passed out on the sofa not long after I'd put ifollow on. Woke up to the sound of the match stats at the end of the game. FFS.

Big shout out to the supporters, too. After a season of, mostly, depressingly shit home performances, we had just under 10,000 for a midweek game. We were in danger of wasting all the feelgood factor generated by the new ownership. Looking forward to throwing off the embargo in the summer!

Refreshing to hear Garner say ‘we can’t always play it out from the back and need to go long at times’. Fuck me, we’ve been saying that all season. The penny has finally dropped

That’s a cracking crowd, well done Swindon fans!

Also, not a chance Garner meant that. What next, Sam Allerdyce believes passing football is the way forward?

Don’t know if he chose to change it or was forced to because of injuries etc. Whatever, it’s working 10 times better. Hardly any fannying around at the back with pointless passing, not afraid to hit it long and this allied with some fantastic, quick, short passing in the area where it should be - not at the back. Yesterday was the best football I’ve seen in a long, long time. From us, that is!

Missed it through work, any idea how we played?
First half we were a little disjointed,as were Colchester, hit with a sucker punch for the goal.
Second half we were miles better & went up a notch when Fletcher came on.
Once we levelled, there was only going to be one winner & it was fairly comfortable in the end.
Lee is really starting to impress now with his subs etc.
The players he's brought in have improved us dramatically & we aren't outmuscled anymore.
FGR apart,no team has stood out & I can see us making a push for the play offs now.

Bit of a strange game on Tuesday. Walsall looked pretty good for the first 30 minutes but didn't really have that cutting edge up front. Good save from Wollacott from Shade but apart from a good spell of possession there wasn't much to show. It was a good battle though, both sides seemed up for it and the referee was letting the game flow. First goal was important, brave play by Cooper in his own box but we managed to play it out and a superb goal by Barry. The second by Aguiar on half time was crucial and second half Walsall folded, we were aggressive and pacy on the break and scored a superb third. 5-0 in the end could have been more, you could tell Walsall couldn't wait to get off the pitch. Hopefully we can build on this and put Salford to the sword on Saturday.

Final shout out to Louis Reed, surely the best midfielder in this division ;)
