er...Tues 23rd, but hey. :P1:

Anyway. Hard to get excited about this one (and I'm sure Wigan fans would be equally unenthused) - the form table suggests a typical slog of mediocrity (17th plays 13th) but I think if we can even get a draw it's fine.

Seems ridiculous that we could potentially climb to the dizzy heights of 13th with a win, but such is the (non) quality of the league this season.

If you could assure me that we won't go down, I'd happily not watch another game this season - really not enjoying this campaign at all, but then we were spoiled under Ainsworth - a couple of promotions and a relegation struggle in the championship where we always at least gave it our best shot.

So we were overdue a campaign of bland nothingness, but wow, it's not fun at all.

I feel like 2 of the relegation spots are pretty much claimed at this point (Fleetwood and Carlisle, unless the latter pull out some serious signings out of nowhere) - Reading have a better side on paper than their position would indicate (and obviously bearing in mind the points deduction) but they're such a basket case of a club that they may go down anyway.

Which I think only really leaves one relegation spot to be fought over - I feel like Chelts will get out of the drop zone, but there's probably about 8 clubs (including us) that will be looking over their shoulder nervously.

Reading may lose a few key players so would be a struggle.

Another free week for us, we seem to be having the idea of putting our feet up, let everyone play their games and we will see what is needed! Still no idea what the outcome for our Reading game is, but loads of games to fit in.

Ideally here a Bolton and Derby win to keep the gap.

If he is still here this has to be last chance saloon for Appleton. I can see us scraping a win, keeping him in a job for a while longer but we will see. I'd expect us to be looking to start our two new CBs which should hopefully see us less leaky at the back.

Be interesting if the Reading game actually gets played to a conclusion or if their fans try and get it abandoned again. I’m assuming Derby will have over 2000 there so can imagine the potential for it to kick off if they did is far greater than when we went there.

After tonight's games, we'll have played the fewest games out of anyone in the league. We've got a lot to cram in between now and May. Win some of our games in hand and we could be well in the top half.

They had a meeting with the EFL which seemed to suggest they wouldn't, reading the notes from it seems like they asked for lenience on footballing punishments and the EFL said whilst it understands they have to be consistent with the rules and fair to the other 23 clubs so be interesting to see what happens there, they have also early February the latest hearing to come which was rescheduled from a few weeks back so may be hit more there as well?

I'm still expecting defeat, even though we started well against Bolton before the game was abandoned last week.

I do wonder if the lads from Trotter Chatter pod are a bit more realistic with their predictions and a lot less patronising than they were on their preview before the game last week.

Think we will get something at Rovers. Don't ask me how, just doesn't bear thinking about losing to Matt Taylor.

Probably will be a score draw but this is an opportunity to pick up all 3. Never do well against you boys in recent times though.
Even Taylor hasn't fancied Jevani of late so he will probably be on the bench..

Hopefully we’ll go and attack Charlton. Appleton obviously under pressure so a decent start will hopefully get the home crowd on his back. We’ve looked knackered the last few weeks so a postponement Saturday probably helps for tomorrow.

Another good trip on a Tuesday night, hope we get Charlton on a Saturday next year as it’s an IFollow job tomorrow. Think we’re bringing 600 so half what we would have on a Saturday. 1-2 Cobblers.

All of our half decent ones are Tuesday nights. Horrendous.

Steady on.

Guess when Orient away is! Yep! Tuesday night!
Although I’ll be doing orient it’s not the same and we’ve had some cracking days out for Orient away in recent years.

Blackpool, Boro, Derby, Charlton, Orient, Oxford. 5 games where we’d ordinarily take a big following and a piss up seaside weekend, all Tuesdays. Pathetic.

Charlton is easily one of the best away days in the league. Especially for a northerner who only gets to experience London every so often. Orient is also a good one but it's just a bit far out of Central and Leyton is a bit of a dive (similar to Burslem really!). Plus I recall us being maybe 3-0 down at Orient once and leaving at half time.

The beauty of Charlton is that it's a half decent traditional ground, in an old school London community and is perhaps 20 minutes from the very centre of London, where there are a cracking choice of pubs. It's a proper day out, especially on the train and as much as it's maligned, London is still an exciting place to be and even though I've been going for work 4 or 5 times a year, I still seek out all the tourist spots.

Some cracking pubs in Leyton mind

The Orient fans may be able to confirm but have a few of them reopened recently after refurbs? The Leyton Technical etc

Orient is easier to get to than Charlton. One stop from Stratford, loads of central line trains whereas the service to Charlton takes longer and is more spasmodic.
I think Derby might be one of the better away days, sadly its always on a Tuesday night (thanks EFL).

I don't like London away days mainly because it's 8 quid for a pint and the food is a rip off also.

It depends where you go to be honest. The pub/restaurant I live opposite to in North Staffordshire is £6 a pint and there's lots of places around London at that price, as long as you don't drink in the tourist pubs. Food is also expensive everywhere now...there's not many places around me where you're paying less than £18 for a main course. Yes, it's expensive, but not as bad as some would have you think. The trains on the other hand....

I think the last time I went was possibly before the Olympics and a lot of the infrastructure wasn't ready. So perhaps there wasn't a connecting train from Stratford at that time. Just seem to remember it taking ages and being a real ballache to get to. I'm hoping to coincide a business trip with the Orient game in a few weeks.

I'm off to Derby on Saturday, and very much looking forward to it.

Orient is much better now there's the Elizabeth line to Stratford and you don't have to sit on the central line for 25 mins from Central London. The train from central to Charlton is probably actually quicker than the tube to Orient but yeah around every 10 mins rather than every few for the tube. You can actually walk it from North Greenwich tube station in 30ish mins as well and take in a pub or something on the way
