Tbf Grimsby stopped us playing our usual game, very rare to see us not dominate the ball but despite that we were comfortable, which is a good sign I suppose.

Jake Young looks a real find, first season playing first team football for anyone and 3 goals already.

James Morton was pretty good for us on loan last season, calm on the ball, sprayed it about pretty well. Wouldn't say he isn't even Conference standard.
But having watched him last night, I’m sure it was a surprise at just how shite he was? He’s been that bad since he came

Evatt was poor at the start of last season

3 of those 110 coming our way this Saturday my owd marrow!
For all the ribbing on here I actually have no idea how good or bad Bolton are. Same goes for us to be honest with you.
Smart money would be on a score draw I reckon, I don't think we're pushovers at all, just a bit leaky at the back.

Well it is true, a sentence in the Stagsnet report.

Barrow were good, but the Stags made them look like Barcelona.

Barcelona are shit now, so you're saying you made Barrow look shit?

Yeah he wasn't great last night, but there is a decent player in there based on what I've seen. Maybe lacking in fitness.

How's Williams been?

Fair enough, good to know we haven't signed a total dud then. Hopefully he can make us eat our words.

Williams hasn't been playing every game, I've only seen him twice against Bolton and Orient. Largely anonymous against Bolton (as he was against Carlisle at the weekend too apparently), however against Orient he was quality. Took his goal really well, loads of neatly threaded well weighted balls for the attackers to run onto, causing problems all game. There was a moment when he was in one of the corners, the ball dead and their left back shielding their box stopping him being able to cross and he just waited and dragged the ball back with his studs a few times to give himself a few inches more space and a better angle and to let Owen Windsor (?) run into the box before sliding the ball to the byline perfectly for him. Hopefully there's more of that to come, because he looks genuinely exciting when he's playing well.

Had a feeling Tranmere would struggle this year. Poor from last season along with us and Southend.
The main thing with us we kept our better players. Granted Remi Mathews and Jason Lowe would improve us greatly. Tranmere recruitment pre season was awful they have signed players on big money who are way past there sell by date and who are no longer hungry. Bolton have made this mistake many times it never works
Who are the better players you kept.

I only ask because last season you had 'kids' and Keith Hill signings and none of them covered themselves in glory.

Judging an attacking player by how he looked against our f***ing abysmal defence/Jobi-less midfield is really not an accurate guide.

Williams and McAnuff were on the pitch at the same time for two whole minutes in that game, so I'm going to respectfully ignore this comment.

You beat the mighty Carlisle don't forget that.

By the way what happened to Olomola?

He was fairly good for us last season.
Like all of our first 11, he is injured. No idea what injury he has but he hasn't played all season. He would be starting up front alongside Kevin Van Veen but they are both injured.

Great game at Brizzy last night. Thought that Exeter were clearly the better, more fluent side, but we managed to have our moments as well. Nice change to have little in the way of ‘professionalism’, cynicism or refereeing controversy. Just a good, enjoyable game of football.

Exeter definitely the best attacking side we’ve played this season (Cheltenham the most solid overall); I’m confident that they will finish in the top 7 yet again. Point gained in our quest for mid-table obscurity.

You are proberbly playing us at the right time....Our team though improving week on week is far from our strongest team at present.
Our weakness are well documented the major two at present is our keeper and our lwb. We signed 2 lwb and they are both not good enough hence why we have a r/back C/B at lwb.....Baptiste made a few errors but seems to be improving with his fitness.
Injuries are crippling us at the moment with 8 first team squad players currently out

Yep, spectacularly destroyed Stevenage 1-0 last week, our first home win in 2020. We're on a roll at home now, looking to win 2 straight home league games which is unprecedented.

Holloway's pre-match comments suggest Grimsby might look to press us what with referencing our keeper playing out, rather then just sit back, which should make it a decent game.

'Now we’ve got no rest, it’s a good chance to get back on it against a team that pass for England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales. Their goalie comes out and does little dribbly bits that I’ve never seen anything like.

It’s going to be tough, but I can’t wait. I’d much rather have another game.'
I thought our game at your place last season was the worst match I'd ever see; last night's one eclipsed it!

Pathetic performance last night, looks like our attempts to actually play football finished after we hit top spot. Yes we have a load of injuries and covid but we can't use those excuses for what happened, dreadful.

Game at your place was a belter though.

We are shit at home generally, yesterday was all about getting the job done. We've played better and lost,, nowhere near our best yesterday but kept a clean sheet and deserved the points, so can't complain too much.

Absolutely woeful away at Crawley last night. No heart or desire out there and sadly that’s driven by the manager.

Haven’t seen a Tranmere fan that doesn’t want Jackson gone. He made a sub after 35 mins again yesterday which has happened numerous times already this season in the first half and is a clear message that he has no idea what he’s doing. Ask Mansfield, Leyton Orient, Newport and Crawley fans what they thought of us and that gives you your answer on how we’re playing with no identity whatsoever.

I’ll always be grateful for his work under Micky Mellon but I’m afraid it’s time for him to go before we leave it too late. There is now way we should be playing the way we are with the squad we have.

To be fair on Crawley, they were excellent in the opening 25 minutes. Peter Clarke and Mark Ellis are no slouches when it comes to defending, but Crawley made them look like those traffic cones they use in training.
I doubt Crawley will have a better opening and we will be as static again this season.
Morecambe are coming to Prenton on Saturday and I’m shitting my pants. Never thought I’d hear myself say that.

Good win for us last night. Ends the 14 game run of no home wins between Carlisle and Morecambe.

We started the game really welI, worked hard and pressed really well. We raced into a 2-0 lead within a few minutes. But yet again we were guilty of missing some really really easy chances that would have put the game to bed and made it an easy night. Morecambe ended up coming back into it and at 2-1 there was a real danger of yet another Carlisle v Morecambe 2 goal bottle job. But thankfully George Tanner sealed the win for us against his former club.

Big tests now coming up for us in the form of Exeter, Newport and Cheltenham. These next couple of weeks will show if we’re currently in a false position.

Back in the dhss; you say Ellis is a good defender (he is really) but look where he ends up when Crawley score their first goal. He's the number five I believe.

Its a good goal for non Tranmere fans to look at too.

In fairness to Ellis, he was trying to cover for Liam Feeney who was playing at right wing back. Another of our manager's eccentric tactical decisions.

Feeney is a good player but not a defender.

Our squad is very different to the first half of last season and we have a number of good players. It is the manager that is the issue.

I was a bit annoyed we didn't make more of our first half possession last night, but in the end I was relieved to scrap a draw. Exeter will be there or thereabouts, we put up a good fight and hung in there.

Our backline was excellent for the majority of the game, but Josh Coulsons poor pass which lead to Josh Keys bad miss should really have been stuck away, unlike him to make that sort of error as usually he makes silly challenges and loses his positioning rather than playing risky passes.

Since we've settled our right back position with on loan West Ham youngster Tunji Akinola we've looked alot more steady defensively. Just shows how we've struggled there with Sam Ling recently.

Wanted to post on here last night but the site was down,

Just wanted to pass on my congratulations to barrow on their first win in the league since 1972 and could have scored 10, such is the state of ineptness at Mansfield just now.

given the vicious hidings barrow suffered at the hands of Mansfield in the conference I can imagine it came as a particularly satisfying night.

the main positive is coughlan is gone and we can start again
