It was pretty bad to be fair, the Exeter commentators were absolutely busting a blood vessel over it and slating their antics (which were bad on the night) but Exeter were getting in a bit late on with chances so they seemed to try and kill it and take advantage of a really poor referee.

That said Exeter did similar at VP last season (and paid the price as we equalised in the 96th) and plenty of sides do it... annoyingly we don't and that had cost us a few points this season as the game management side hasn't been our strong point.

Crewe seem much more streetwise this year than previously, they were happy to "wack it" as Artell would phrase it on a bumpy pitch and mix it up.

Exeter i'm just not sure if they've got enough to not miss out again on the auto's on the two times I have seen them in recent weeks, could be a mental thing after the past two or three seasons but with Cheltenham now flying its going to be tough for them to get it but all very open!

Yeh I think there's alot of truth in alot in much of the above. I agree with your view on whether we have got the resolve, I haven't been convinced all season, yet here we are still just a small handful of points off first place. I don't think thats down to us being more solid, its more a matter that all of the top 4 or 5 teams are capable (and have been) choking with regularity against teams they should be beating. We've cocked up a few times and didnt really end up losing that much ground. With 10 games left, it'll be about who is on form right at the end. There still a lot of time to put a good run together for any of them.

We play them over Easter - if we're still flying by the time that comes around then our game against them could be a real cracker.

I thought we did okay for the first half hour, hoping for a 0-0. Once Doyle scored, it was just how many. We had a lot of kids playing last night, with two teenagers making their debuts.

We lacked composure, couldn't clear our lines and had nothing up top. Missed Van Veen and Eisa. The boy Miller (on loan from Barnsley) who played up front on his own doesn't look like a footballer, never mind a striker.

My God, we were awful last night. I watched the game on iFollow and our defending was terrible for all 3 goals. We actually started off well and were on top for the first 20 minutes but once that first goal went in it just seemed to deflate us.

Believe it or not that's the first time we have lost against Plymouth in the league since 1987. I was at that game when we lost 5-0 and it was the final appearance in a Grimsby shirt for our keeper Nigel Batch which was an awful end to such a club legends Mariners career. Could have been at least that last night really.

Didn't play too bad last night considering our team and the fact we were playing top of the league. Someone posted our injured XI and it would beat our team last night.

Need some players back for Saturday or we are fucked

Couldn't be bothered to stay awake to watch last night especially as soon as I saw the team sheet with Green starting, no wonder we didn't score!

Glad i didn't watch as by all accounts we were very poor.

Watched it for the first time on ifollow, where most of the time there was no commentary or the conversation between the production team we not supposed to hear.

Obviously had to make changes because of the bans, but we also made a slight tactical tweak with Mayor playing a more central role. First fifteen-twenty minutes were fairly even and then we took over. The second goal was a long straight pass from Bakinson and Hardie ran on and beat the keeper. Though you have to wonder what the centre backs were doing? All very one way and I was disappointed at only three scored in the end. Edwards missed a sitter at the end.

Felt in the second half we did not deal with the switch to a five three two for Grimsby as well as we should.

On the whole we were good, Grimsby not so, with Green especially featuring in the not so category for the Mariners.

We had Radio Humberside commentary on our iFollow stream. Co commentator was Rory Fallon who was very good actually and quite balanced and fair in his views.

I think a draw was about fair in our game. The pitch hindered both teams, who had to go alot longer than they would normally. Shows how far this team has come though. No way a year or two ago we would have got anything out of that sort of game. But as someone said earlier in the thread, were not as soft as we once we're and we are alot more streetwise.

Perry Ng must have had every single set of fans he's played against foaming at the mouth this season, it's hilarious. He must enjoy playing the villian, it certainly doesn't effect his performances being booed anyway, if anything it seems to spur him on.

Story of his season, he has done one good thing all year and that is score a wonder goal against Chelsea other than that I can't think of anything he has contributed to any game! I was already tired but don't like to miss games, seeing him in the starting eleven convinced me it was a waste to even try and stay awake.

If he is still here next season, I will be shocked or he is on too much money to release.

I feel the form and prospects of the teams vying for autos is going to ebb and flow right to the end of the season. Last week looked bad for us this week it looks good again, with a home match on Saturday that I feel we should win based on our performance last night.

Unless a team really falls away I don’t think you’ll be able to call the final 3 until the last game or 2 of the season

Anyone, and I mean anyone, who criticises another team for time wasting is a massive hypocrite. Every single team does it to varying degrees. I reckon if I went back and found any narrow Exeter win over a promotion rival this season, I'd find the exact same stuff we pulled last night. Unless they are 4th in the table by being Boy Scouts.

This is why we've suddenly jumped from mid-table to 2nd, because we have plenty of shithouses who know how to mix it up and do the dirty side of the game.

Delighted with a point, huge result for us in the promotion race. Got to back it up with a win against Stevenage now.

I’m sure if a match was 2 halves of 30 minutes each but with the clock stopped every time the ball wasn’t actually in play we’d still get about a 90 minute game but without the time wasting.

Mind you, a lot of shithousery is designed to stop the opposition’s momentum not just running the clock down.

Agreed JJ. Every single team does it, though some do make it slightly more obvious than others. The problem of course is that we only start taking notice when the side we support is chasing the game, or trying to find a way past a (more often than not) visiting side that is more than happy with picking up a point away from home.

We rarely do it, in fact Aspin bizarrely banned it along with gloves! It annoys me when teams do it to us and we hardly do it back as it loses you an advantage. This is likely why we’ve let so many wins slip away in injury time as our game management is not there! We rarely even make that token sub to slow the game down!

My favourite Perry moment was when some billy big bollocks left back had had enough of him and threw Ng to the ground on the byline and basically pinned him down. Ng got up and immediately nutmegged him. The moment you react to Ng’s wummery is the moment you lose.

Scunthorpe certainly don't time waste properly. On saturday at 2-1 down their keeper was faffing around for ages and so was Butler. It was almost like they thought they were 2-1 up.
Reverse time wasting

The idea that you do it 'rarely' is nonsense. So every time you have a narrow lead late in the game, your goalie isn't taking longer than usual with kicks, you aren't dawdling over throw ins and set pieces, players aren't going down with suspiciously timed injuries or cramp, you aren't buying cheap fouls, players aren't going slower than usual when being subbed?

If you honestly believe that you don't do any of these things, then I would suggest you are naive at best, deluded at worst.

We rarely do it... hence why our fans lose their shit when we fail to "game manage" a lead that we lose late on... as I have said Askey rarely makes that 90th minute sub to waste time with! Ask any Vale fan their criticism of Askey and most will say "lack of game management"

You certainly did it at our place this season. I've got no problem with it though. It all swings in roundabouts and you always run the risk of the ref adding more time on and conceeding very late ala Oldham a couple of weeks ago.

Anyway shithousing is actually quite fun, Vale fans are missing out on all the wumming potential. Nothing better at an away game then watching irate home fans going mad as our keeper pretends he can't find the ball, Ebou Adams has another quick lie down or a subbed off player pretends he doesn't realise what number he is or what's going on and wants to shake hands with everyone. Good times.

Not a lot of point scoring the goal in a 7-1 defeat!!
