About as straightforward as it comes tonight against a completely toothless Gillingham side. They had two good chances and fluffed them, and then never offered even the slightest threat on goal for the rest of the game. We played in second or third gear and just worked hard rather than being particularly good, which Gillingham had no answer for. We can score, they can't, this was only going to end one way and the game was a reflection of that. Despatched and on to Saturday.

Absolutely ridiculous we did not win that tonight, for the first time this season I’m annoyed with our performance, even though we looked twice the team that Wrexham are we somehow managed to let them go back to Wales with a clean sheet.

Got to be more clinical or we’ll draw our way to the play-offs.

Wrexham reminded me of our Paul Cox team, so not the most pleasing obviously I think the one thing they have on us is a player capable of taking a cracking corner.

Worst Sutton performance I’ve seen for many a long while. Set up to not lose which was odd when it was on paper a great opportunity to win. Not only are we gone if we play like that, but we won’t get close to another point. Last 10 we eventually woke up to the fact you had to be in their half to score and missed 2 sitters to rub salt in those wounds.

On the night it’s about right tbh.

Ultimately the only reason we didn’t win was down to our (yet again) wasteful finishing. It’s no go at wrexham it should’ve been out to bed by half time - but again, that’s down to us and us alone. we’ll come across a lot, lot worse sides than wrexham.

We got lucky with a draw at colchester the other week, it’s swings and roundabouts.

a win at home to wimbledon on saturday is mandatory.

Definitely flattering yourselves. There was hardly anything in it 2nd half.

Only time you looked clearly the better team was the first 30 minutes or so but we've often taken time to get ourselves into games this season. Hopefully that changes.

If you had a couple of Strikers you'd be a very strong team.

I'd settle.for a point now. However are away record is pretty decent so far. Hope we are not too tired after tonight.

Or a manager who has actually watched us ever play under Parkinson.

I was delighted to see those crosses coming in all second half after them outplaying us on the ground first half. Absolute food and drink for Hayden and Tozer to nod away or Okonkwo coming out to claim them.

Two away games in a row at Mansfield and now Grimsby where we've had hat fulls of chances yet fuck all to show for it. We're either gonna hammer someone soon, or our strikers are genuinely shit.

Not much to add, great first half, probably sat back a bit much second half but Swindon are obviously very good on the ball. Not sure 3-1 is the fairest of results on the balance of play but Crowley should have had at least one more so I'm not complaining.

50 goals in 59 games now for the tap in merchant, warra player.

There's no way Hughes should keep his job after managing to lose to us. It wasn't a fluke either - Bradford edged the game on chances created but both sides looked pretty dire and if we hadn't missed the penalty it would have been comfortable.
Some very questionable refereeing tonight - officials decided we weren't playing handball, as they let everything go all game. Penalty was presumably given for the follow through on Saunders, despite the defender clearly winning the ball, although I'd need to see it again to see just how bad it was. Saunders has a habit of winning penalties so pinch of salt required. Either way it didn't matter in the end.

We’ve got 5 or 6 players who’d have been the best player at the club by miles in seasons gone by and they’re all attackers, and they were all the absolute dog’s bollocks in that first half.

The last thing we should have done was let an early goal in the second half so that’s exactly what we did. A second would have been excruciating so thank Christ it never came.

Sounds like our match at Harrogate wasn't great but never mind. What a great goal by Omar Bugiel. Why did Sutton release him? He's an integral part of our team.

I've yet to visit Harrogate and the way things are currently going, it'll be a while yet.

Up to second, nosebleed time.

I think 3-1 (or probably 4-2 or something, but a two goal win) was probably about right, they should’ve had a penalty at 0-0 from my view, but we missed some huge chances outside of the three goals in the first half, Langstaff had one cleared off the line and Crowley fluffed a pretty easy one that would’ve been one of the team goals of the season.

Second half they created more, but nothing too clear cut after the goal other than another header similar to the goal that went over. I think it was given offside anyway, but their ‘keeper made one of the best double saves I’ve ever seen from McGoldrick then Crowley in the second half.

That seven of Palmer, Bostock, Nemane, Jones, Crowley, McGoldrick and Langstaff could all be playing at a higher level quite comfortably I think, so if we can just have a defence and goalkeeper that kind of function a bit behind them (and keep them fit) then we’re going to go very close.

Second half was okay, but that game management of a lead bit is a real area we need to work on. For a team generally so good at keeping the ball we can lose the ability to do it in that situation. We were never going to be able to play with the same intensity as the first half though, so can’t complain.

Swindon couldn’t cope with the intensity of our press and speed of passing in the first half, but played some cracking stuff in the second when it settled to a more normal pace. Can see why they’re doing well and they’ll be up there.

When will Notts play someone good?
A week on Saturday?

He's a machine. If he carries on like this he'll get 30 goals this season.

I’m really not sure how teams didn’t come in with big bids for Langstaff in the summer.

Surely now he’s doing it in the EFL they will be arriving in January.

Ref blows to put us out of our misery. Routine for Stockport who were better in every department without being at their best given the odd wayward pass, but will think they could have scored twice as many at least you'd reckon. Barely ruffled a feather ourselves.
Can't argue with that; although our lads are overflowing with confidence they never reached top gear.

I thought your lads were, on a technical level, more than competent but just lacked any sort of drive or overall team identity.

First half we were really good, very hard to live with. Seconds half we tired, we'd put everything into that first 45. Deserved the win but no stroll in the park, Swindon always looked dangerous but defensively about as good as we've been recently.
Great game for the neutral, two attacking teams and a wide open match.

Positives for the Forest Green were that they played some nice passing stuff and that their team didn’t give up and were actually the better team when they went down to 10 men.

Unfortunately they never looked like scoring or even troubling our keeper from open play. Definitely had something of the Simon Rusk’s about them. You could spot the finger prints of an out of depth U23 coach a mile off.

Just like lots of teams recently FGR couldn’t handle the front pairing of Tanto and Barry. Barry lacked the end product today but he’s ridiculous when he has the ball at his feet and room to run. In my years watching County I can only think of Andy Welsh as someone who compares to him as a dribbler.

Just like Saturday we were well on top until we brought Madden and the kids off the bench. Luckily our starting team is looking very good atm and we’ve got the game sewn up as the quality drops considerably when we make changes.

Hopefully in the next few weeks we can start getting some players back from injury and have a bench that matches the starting 11.

To be in 4th place and averaging two goals a game when we’ve had an injury crisis, a tough start fixture wise and our big marquee signing of the summer has been a disaster is really good news going forward.

We were in 2nd gear tonight, got 2-0 up should have had more but the sending off allowed us to bring the kids on to see it out which unfortunatley they did a pretty shit job of it again but they're just too wet behind the ears to control games.

9 players out but 5 or 6 should be back mid to late October. That is when hopefully we will go up a gear or two. But football isn't always that simple.

We have more match winners than last season, more players who can do something out of nothing but whether we're a more effective team overall is up for the jury in the coming months.

I can't believe we're 3 points off the top with the injuries, 2nd gear performances and I think the boffins have said we've had the hardest start fixture wise bar maybe one or two teams.

Notts were very very good first half. Targeted our weakness in the wing back areas and got in behind several times. McGoldrick was brilliant, Jones, Langstaff and Crowley all more than decent. They will be top 7 minimum I think.

Im pleased for Jodi Jones - was Coventry's outstanding player for a period of time before some bad injuries. Really talented player and glad he seems to be over the worst of it.

Was pleased with how we responded second half, had a proper go for 20 mins and kept trying to create until the end but the game was gone already.

Not too many negatives for me other than the obvious goals conceded - think it's too easy to go over the top after a defeat. I enjoyed the watch and think we will be in the mix at the end (as long as the squad isnt ripped apart in January).

There is a danger that ourselves and Sutton are going to be cut adrift at the bottom. Don’t really fancy another season of that after last year.

We’ll not play worse than that this season and win again, we were absolutely dreadful.

However, it’s 3 points, it stops the rot & it’s about time we got lucky.

Until we can find a way of getting our best players into a cohesive line-up, fear we’ll still be down there. Away form is terrible too, lost every league game and not won away since February.
