Was always going to be a struggle for us last night, no shame in losing there. I’m more surprised we made it to 70 mins before conceding and there was a bit of fortune about the opener.

Bonner coming in for a bit of criticism for not changing it before the first goal, it was Ipswich’s subs that helped lift them and questions over whether a bit of energy may have done the same for us. But you can argue this sort of thing both ways sometimes as disrupting a team that’s defending well can have the opposite effect.

It won’t be Ipswich away that determines whether we stay up or not.

Another high octane ding dong battle at Home Park where no one could have argued with a Wednesday win, a draw or an Argyle win I thought!

Wednesday were really well organised off the ball and their press/midfield control forced us to play long and as such we never really hit our stride in the first 70 odd minutes, apart from a 10 min spell towards the end of the first half. I thought they were marginally the better team and whilst we had a couple of good chances, Cooper made a couple of blinding saves and we had the post to thank twice.

Again subs changed it - Schuey went for it with his, brought on Houghton who calmed our midfield down for Randell who didn't have his best game (Wednesday did their homework and pressed him hard and fast to stop him distributing through the middle phase). Ennis and Cosgrove came on up top and changed the game as they so often have.

We also have to thank Moore for his subs, how he took off Bannan (who was running the game) and Windass who was a threat all night - it definitely bemused the entire home end. From then the crowd rose and momentum swung back in our favour and we were the only team in the last 15 going for the win, Wednesday looked to settle for the point and dropped deep.

Last 10 minutes were crazy - we looked to have a clear goal over the line not given, as well as a stonewall penalty. Ref got let off when Cosgrove again popped up with the winner very shortly after. Those who wrote him off before he kicked a ball are starting to look very silly!

Once again we found a way at home. Wednesday won't lose many, they're strong, organised, physical and dangerous on the ball, Smith is a handful in this league.

Automatics race is going to go all the way this year I think. We've proved we can do it against the teams who come to play (those in the top 8). Now we'll face a different challenge over the coming months, we've got to prove we can beat the 'lesser' teams who will come and stick 10 men behind the ball. Can we break them down?

We was poor last night, effort as always but seriously lacking any real quality on the ball, total opposite to ipswich who certainly deserved the win.

First half was pretty even, ipswich having plenty of the ball without really creating much, just the one chance near the end which he should have scored from. 2nd half they really came at us and we just couldn’t cope, our defensive frailties were really pushed, not helped with rb playing at lb and our cb in Taylor playing in only his 2nd start I think, despite all that it took a deflected cross and a flukey cross shot to break us down.

We may not be ipswich’s rivals but it was certainly a derby, your fans enjoyed it, after the first goal went in anyway.

As for us, we need everyone fit sharpish otherwise we’ll slowly be sliding down the table.

Do the Plymouth lot think they'll fade like last season or does it feel different (it was last season they had a good start, right?)?

For me personally it feels different this season. Under Schumacher we have a plan a, b,c and d if needed. Under Lowe, we were a bit one dimensional. Schuey has learned his lessons from last season too. Wycombe away is a classic example. We have been bullied by them many times in the past but not the case on saturday. We matched them up with a stronger, taller and more physical line up and it worked. Also, recruitment in the summer was exceptional, they’ve all played their part with goals and assists. I suppose the acid test will be when we play the lesser teams who sit deep and try to frustrate us. If we can negotiate that Argyle could really be on to a great season.

I have to agree with the above post. We just seem to have so much more depth this season and a manager who can utilise the squad to suit the test at hand. Hopefully this rotation will reduce the risk of injuries endured.

So far pretty much every side to visit Home Park has had a real go and it has made for open, attacking football. Our next test will be when sides set up simply not to lose and we have to break them down to score. Im guessing this may be the case on Saturday against Accy

Worth remembering last night we didn’t have Danny Mayor, James Bolton or Mikel Miller in the squad. All 3 when fit are capable starters.

I think if we are still up and around it in January we may learn from last seasons January recruitment which turned out pretty poor, and strengthen further.

We now don’t play anybody in the top 8 until January 14th, so a good time to push on.

No injury, just a Darren Moore decision
I am not so sure, the physio came on for several minutes earlier. The Argyle bench believed he was injured. Worth you guys keeping an eye out for any stories over the next few days.

Moore said in his interview it was down to his and Windass energy levels dropping. Will soon see.

I think we are all giddy at the moment, and so emotions may begin to take over from cognitive rational assessment. But my viridescent friends above all see it as I do. We are stronger and deeper than last year. But what happens in January will always be important. My gut feeling is that compared with those who can spend big in January we may just run out of steam.

Cooper, while we still have him, will keep us in games. Schuey is very shrewd - we now have the players to allow him to make the changes that win games. That is a powerful left-right combination.

One of the advantages of travelling so much is that the team can bond very closely, with the whole being far greater than the sum of the parts. I feel the big difference last night was that we were a team, Wednesday seemed more about skilful individuals than the collective.

We need to score more from our midfield trio, and it would be a bonus if the CBs could score from a few set pieces. But on the whole things are looking very positive.

Last year felt amazing at points, this year feels better. Last year we beat everyone but the top six (from whence we got just 4 points). This year it is 13 points from the top six (And we are one of that top six). Our challenge is to maintain that form against sides who will be more defensive. We did last year, if we replicate that this form we are the real deal, if not we are good but not that good. I’m just along for the ride.

What I am convinced of is that Schuey is the real deal. He just oozes football brainpower, it is scary how good he could be. Absolutely convinced he will manage his beloved Everton one day.

Okay, time will tell. I hope he is not injured, I hate it when players get injured though it is part and parcel.

I know some of your comments are mocked to high heaven, but I've always respected you for not hiding when Bolton do lose a game.

We were so good last night - I really didn't expect it. Don't get me wrong, Bolton were clearly off it, but we actually punished them. Credit to Ian Evatt afterwards who, whilst bemoaning his team's performance, didn't patronise us either. I'm one of the first to jump on some of his comments previously, but he went up a level in my head last night
Started with a negative line-up and never got going......hope both Evatt and the players learned on the night
Still stand that we could of got more points at Port Vale and Plymouth, but last night we was beaten out of sight

Personally, speaking as someone who’s done every home game and most always this season, I thought you were actually one of the better sides we’ve played this season. Would put Sheffield Wednesday, Plymouth and Bolton above you performance wise but that’s it. At times you looked neat and tidy on the ball to play your way out of trouble. Thought your organisation was excellent. Defence were very much one of the best we’ve played. But that was for the first hour. For 70 minutes we didn’t seem to know how to break you down. Eventually it came from a fortunate run of the ball. But that said, we had a few like that first half that just dropped to one of yours rather than ours so we were due one.

After we scored, your lads looked a bit defeated and we just out our foot on the gas and went through the gears. Respect to your fans who were decent and your manager was very complimentary about us. Said whoever finishes above us would go up which was a nice touch.

One last thing though... from our perspective it’s definitely not a derby. I could name five teams right now we dislike more than you and four of those aren’t a derby to us either (Scum, West Ham, Sheffield United, Colchester, Southend. In that order.) For whatever reason a large section of your fans seem to hate us though and like Colchester, have tried to suggest it’s a derby, albeit a lot less than before the game at your place last year.

Good luck for the season. I think you’ll be top half from what I saw anyway.

In fairness, I don’t think he meant it. If he did then it’s goal of the season contender. And he’s lying if he says he did. ;-)

I was referring to the unfortunate misspelling! :D

No one on our message board thinks it’s a derby. It’s a big game for us because it’s our second closest away game of the season and you’re a “big scalp” but it’s definitely not a derby. Anyone who thinks it is is wrong.

Our only derby is Peterborough.

In fairness, I haven’t looked on your message board. Am just going by the reply I replied to which referred to it as a ‘derby’, a load of your fans on the train looking for trouble outside the station and the below tweet from before the game at your place last season which again refers to it as a derby:

I assume the club are just trying to hype it up. Geographically it’s close but that’s it. The younger fans thought Luton was a derby a few years ago, Stevenage a few years before that. Even Histon ffs. They won’t know what’s hit them when it’s Boro in a few weeks’ time.

I went to Norwich v Ipswich a few years ago (play offs in 2015) as my wife is a Canary. That’s your only true derby. And yes they hate you as much as you hate them.

I’ve just watched the Plymouth - Wednesday highlights, how the fuck did Wednesday lose that?
So many chances and then concede at the death they must’ve felt sick.

And yet we had more shots, more shots on target, a perfectly good goal over the line not given because the Lino was not in the right place and two very strong penalty shouts (one cast iron). The longer Matchday Moments on YouTube gives a much more balanced view of the action. It was a good game, and all three results were possible.

Yeah I was going off a 2 minute YouTube video, it showed the goal over the line on it but other than that it was all Wednesday chances.

I think you can get public access to Plymouth Argyle’s Matchday Moments via You Tube. I think the publicly available version is about 9 minutes. And while it is obviously taken by an Argo employee it gives more action. It also provides two camera angles re the goal, the back of the net camera is pretty conclusive. I don’t want to go on about the goal that wasn’t just it provides a bit more balance to what you saw. Bottom line is that we’ll get things go for and against this season. And unless you are Port Vale waiting for a penalty, it all evens out over a season or two.

Don’t think that’s strictly true especially to our older generation of supporter who would certainly call Northampton a derby, if your defining a derby by who you hate the most then for us it’s certainly pish for us but I bet you want find many not calling Northampton a derby if asked.

We had 24 shots on Tuesday night. I was surprised to read that the last time Sheffield Wednesday faced 24+ shots in a game was 4 years ago when they played Leeds.

Of course it means sod all unless you score but it shows the amount of chances we are creating.
