It's soft, but if you jump into the keeper like that and bundle him into the net you're unlikely to get much leniency from the ref these days.
Bundles him into the net? Specsavers is still open despite the pandemic.

You’re welcome.

A friend of mine was on the same FA coaching course as Terry Smith. Everyone on the course were running kids football teams apart from Terry Smith who was chairman/manager of Chester. He thought he was more qualified than the instructor and tried to take over the course. Kept on rambling on about how teams should have offensive and defensive captains just like grid iron.

Was that the self proclaimed football scientist Tobias Phoenix ?
Mad Terry sacked a player for not standing in the correct position for a corner. Paul Beesley I think.

Skip to 1:07 here to see our penalty v Swindon a couple of years ago.
No one near him when he finally goes over!

Contact outside the area ?

Mind you one of your players approved of the decision.

Referees didn’t cost you a place in the FA Cup final though... still groaned about nearly 70 years on!
A Referee cost us a place in the League Cup Final against Man United in 1994. The same Ref who , quite possibly, also cost us a place in the Premier League 2 seasons earlier, certainly a place in the Play Off Final at least. And yes we are still moaning about it. Certainly the Villa Park game.

As for National League the home games were depressing for the most part. Seeing the away end at Prenton Park that has over 2 thousand seats in it housing 8 Gateshead fans or 13 Boreham Wood is not the most uplifting of sights. However some of the away games were good fun especially when we had more fans than the home team which happened quite a few times. Also we found generally that the locals tend to be friendlier than their FL counterparts (except at Wrexham of course where their behavior is still the same as it was in the 70s and 80s) and there are some nice club houses/supporters club bars to be found. Having said that the novelty soon wears off after the first season or so and I was over enjoyed to kiss it goodbye.

Been some awful referees down the years, but i can only think of two who blatently cheated against us.
One had me walking out of the game at half time done with football

Though the walking out had as much to do with a cheating whining excuse of a player as it did the referee

I know that feeling. The one at Villa Park was, I honestly believe to this day, refereeing to orders. Aldridge was about to turn the ball into a empty net when Mark Bosnich , who he had skipped around just pulled him down. It was a obvious a red card as you would ever hope to see yet he was only booked. He then saved 3 penalties in the shoot out which we lost when he shouldn`t have even been on the pitch. Years later the ref, Alan Gunn, said that the reason he didn`t send him off was that in his opinion there was no clear goal scoring opportunity. We are talking John Aldridge here , at the time one of the most lethal finishers in English football, 10 yards out in front of an open goal. How much more of a goal scoring opportunity did he want?

We only had one in 3 seasons but had 4 games postponed for other clubs replays. The 1st and 3rd season we got knocked out first game. The 2nd season we got to the semi finals. The year we got promoted we played away to Solihull and if none of our supporters had gone the attendance would have been 55 instead of 125
We got all the way to the final twice and lost both times, that's a bit of a shitter doing that.

Been some awful referees down the years,
Many years ago, just after World Cup win in 1966, there was a 'celebrity' referee who loved to go to pub after games and talk about the match. Something modern refs don't do these days.
What I remember from those long off times was that he said he ensured that he sent off World Cup winner Alan Ball as often as he could, almost to the very edge of legality.
That referee would have no future in today's game with video replays etc.

We had Kettle on Tuesday, surely one of the worst in the EFL. Hardly ever seen him have a good game Anyone remember this, got to be something dodgy going on there?

Sent off 5 Bolton players in 6 games......including one this season which was over turned on appeal.
He is not a cheat, just a awful referee

Yeah Trevor Kettle is a joke. He's a bit like the lower league Mike Dean in that matches should be billed in the following format...

The TREVOR KETTLE SHOW
featuring Colchester vs Exeter

Although that fucking clown we had vs FGR is now officially on my radar. Peter Wright. Remember the name lads.

I quite liked Wright, without him we would be out of the top 3 by now.

Btw I know as a FACT that Peter Wright reads this forum, and takes everything said about him VERY personally.

So thanks to Son of Cod Southend will now be winning tomorrow.

There was a ref in the National League who seemed to laugh or smile at whoever he was booking or sending off at the time, no idea of his name but he was tall and blonde haired.

From what I've watched this season the refs have generally been ok, but that's using the National League as a reference.

When he takes his notebook out, it's not to write a name down it's to read Son of Cod's comments that he's got jotted in there to keep himself in the mood for a crackers decision.

Peter Wright was the muppet who threatened to call off our play-off semi, because Rovers fans were throwing paper darts at Ebsfleet keeper Nathan Ashmore, who was time-wasting from the 15th minute...Mr Wright didn't take any action on that. Think there'd have been a riot if that had happened. As his day job is a police officer, you'd think he could do better.

So he keeps notes on everything anyone he doesn't like posts on here? Sounds a bit like Devon Lad. Must be a referee thing.

We had 6 against Guiseley for a tuesday game and 4 of them lived in Chester.
I watched a match at Whaddon Road where at start of game there were no away supporters.
The Guisely supporters coach had been delayed.
When they did arrive Guisely were already one or two goals down and all the Cheltenham supporters gave the latecomers a round of applause.
There was about 20 away fans that made the trip.

Sounds fun... our 4500 away end will look sparse! The lowest we’ve had in years including the paint pot is Crawley, think they hold the record for the 2 lowest. Want to say 23 when they beat us in League One 2-3.

You about did last time, don’t think anyone has since mind! (Sheffield United the week before did of course)

It’s rare, Wolves and Leeds have.

Oh no ‍♀️ Stoke City did for their cup final in the match against their u23s in the paint pot of course! *still living rent free in their heads.

Most disappointing following was Notts County though, had the chance to win auto promotion with their big spending side and only had around 1500! In contrast we sold out easily 3000 plus for Rochdale and Wycombe the season we went up!

Pleased no Maddison, regardless of the fact he’s a bit of a waste he always tears us a new one!
