Despite some of our fans convinced Askey was going to play the u13s, he's (quite rightly) made just 1 change and that's Pope starting.

Right thing to do and think Pope is the right call also as don't think today will be conducive to much good football from either side.

Depending on what happens with the mess that is Bolton I wouldn't rule out finishing 2nd bottom leading to survival either.

Bury, Bolton and Coventry and severe risk so worth trying to get to that 23rd place if you do go down in case the reprieve is there although hope that isn’t the case for the sake of the aforementioned clubs.

Not much happening here in dreadful conditions but Vale with the bigger chunk of possession. Macc will be worried with the Yeovil score at HT but it's still all to play for.

Poor half, we are having most of the game but making poor decisions in the final third. Macc haven’t offered anything really as yet.

Completely unacceptable performance and something that’s become a trait late in the season in recent years. We just didn’t look arsed at all. Made zero effort to chase the game or put a cross in.

Attitudes need sorting at this club, how can you put the efforts in Monday that they did then offer up that today?

Apologies Notts and Yeovil. Absolutely gifted them a walk over there.

Add that to the list of non-descript home performances from us. I don’t know why but we are an absolute joke at home.

Congrats on the win Macc and sorry to Yeovil and Notts.

Apologies? Fuck me.

If you'd beaten Notts in just one of your games we'd be safe now. Fuck apologies.

Agent Askey knew what he doing there!

It was just the lack of desire. Shocking. Two dire sides today but Macc actually wanted it and had a go. The worst was when we took a free kick and Elliott was free to whip a cross in unchallenged but decided to play a pass back down the line!

Yes, complete apologies. I thought macc were terrible first half , as bad as anything I'd seen since we came back down to this league, and with a better ball or two in the final 3rd I thought we'd go on to win 2 or 3. The second half was as bad as I've seen in a long time. Macc improved but we were dreadful. It was symptomatic of our season, in fact the last 3 seasons, and the sooner we start again with new owners, a new team and fresh ideas, the better. Pope needs to be a bit part player now I'm afraid and our midfield is terrible and slow. We have struggled to score for 3 seasons now and we've got to do something about it or we will be the next Yeovil. The manager said that some players have been unprofessional this season. Cancel their contracts if needed. I'm so sorry for Notts and Yeovil fans, as we literally rolled over today. Pathetic.

That was awful. At half time I thought we might come out and go for it and grab an easy win, but we just didn't look bothered. Macc had a 10 minute spell where they actually tried and scored a good goal. I've seen some poor home performances this season, but that was up there with the worst. Apologies to Notts and especially Yeovil after that. I'm wondering if Askey is the right man to take us forward after that.

It makes me wonder whether we need a disciplinarian in there to get rid of some of the bad apples and create a bunker mentality. Make no mistake, it will be us in that bottom two next season without root and branch reform. We are struggling against clubs a quarter of our size and this shouldn't happen.

Stop being a prick. We're saying that we didn't at least turn up in a game of great importance to these clubs.
Shit team in losing game of football shock? Not like you rolled over and lost 0-5.

Sol has done a great job there to be fair to him.

Wasn’t the fact we lost, had we put in a professional performance and been beaten fair enough, it’s the fact we barely got into first gear at any point. As a fan the one thing that can’t be accepted is a lack of effort

Great win for them, and they deserved it, lovely finish for the goal.
That number 7 for Macc though, wow, one of the worst i’ve seen.
And they were chanting his name!
Unreal.

One thing we haven’t been able to criticise this season is lack of effort, quality yes, but we’ve at least tried (mostly) it wasn’t there today, Conlon aside.
I’m glad it’s all over. I love the summer, fuck shit football ballsing up my weekends

Maybe Yeovil should put a complaint in then for bringing the game into disrepute?

I think a bit of realism is required from your side. There's now a fairly decent chance we'll finish just 2 points behind you this season - you might just actually be nearly as shit as we are and using the "effort" excuse doesn't necessarily stack up.

First half was terrible football in terrible weather; whole game was plagued with sloppy passing really and i guess difficult conditions contributed to that. Reece Cole coming on changed things and gave us a bit more energy. We then had a decent spell before the goal with several good saves by Brown, which resulted in him winning Vale's motm, and then a great strike worthy of winning any game. Not sure where Fitz has been hiding that all these years though! Obviously managed to make it slightly desperate for ourselves in the final minutes as always, and crucial we hung on with County winning.

Only anyone there today could see it was a lack of effort...

Sounds like Yeovil will have a strong case then.

Not really it happens a lot to teams at this stage of a season but that was one of the most pathetic efforts by any Vale team I have seen us put in. Can’t fault their efforts in recent weeks to get us out the mess but that was unacceptable hence the chorus of boos at the end.

You benefitted from it so happy days.

Big summer ahead for the Vale to hopefully finally arrest this diabolical situation the past two years.

I never said we aren't a poor team. We're not near the bottom of division 4 for no reason. I think with sufficient effort though we would have beaten an even poorer team than ourselves and that's why we should be ashamed .

I guess the only thing that can say is Askeys words in the Sentinel about a lack of professionalism amongst some of the squad have not exactly been disproved today. There is a lot of work to do if we are to avoid similar struggles.

That said Macc did what they had to do, I've seen us enough times fail to capitalise in the same situation. Well done to Macc and probably see you next season hopefully not such a close run thing for either team. That goal was a stunner it must be said, to beat Scott Brown at all is some achievement the way he's played all year never mind like that.

It was a weird one because as lacklustre as we were I never felt worried we’d lose it. They were absolutely terrible, the number 7 as mentioned was laughably bad and Harry Smith was equally as poor, clean through and literally pea rolled it to Brown.

It was a fine strike mind and once that went in they parked the bus and we never really fancied it, I expected an onslaught of balls into the box etc but never really bothered just spent the past twenty minutes knocking it about just inside the Macc half then once losing position they would lump it clear and we’d start again.

Intrigued by what Askey was referring too about certain players attitudes at the club? Assuming he stays we might see a fair few go including a couple under contract I reckon.

That's Smith's party trick - beat the off side trap, bear down on goal, get it on his right foot, make the keeper have to actually move forwards to collect his pea roller.
