Think you vale fans have fallen for the bishop thing a little here. I do totally see how you’d have been infuriated by him, however that’s football.

Right, he’s 38 or 39, the most experienced player on the pitch, the ref (one of you said was 26) you not think that he’s not going to know how to play a ref 12 years his junior and get away with it?

And you’re saying that if you had him in your team doing that you’d be chastising him for doing so? Pull the other one.

The bigger questions is why we always get these dodgy as fuck refs

because this league is now a training school for sub standard national league officials who aren't up to the job

True, but that’s not new news it’s been happening for years

Not that it makes it right either

Never said we would chastise one of our own but we don't do it anywhere near enough. Aspin wouldn't allow it and Askey has said how they told the referee about Rose and his diving before the game.

There's playing the ref and then there's blatant cheating. Bishop did that second half by pretending to be injured. It really annoys me and considering he's 38 maybe he should have grown up by now.

I think it’s up to the EFL to get a grip of the issue to be honest, I said in the Exeter v Stags thread Bowman should get a retrospective ban for coning their man into a red card and the same should apply to Danny Rose for coning the referee into a penalty yesterday, the slow mo of the incident is damming but the EFL is weak and doesn’t, I thought they’d had this retrospective banning come in for diving but seemed to give up on it after a week or two!

If Danny Rose/Bowman is thinking I’m getting three games if caught here then they’d probably think twice.

The annoying thing is Danny Rose should of been sent off for the penalty incident as a second yellow but gets to put his side ahead... then somehow avoids a second yellow for trying to take on Legge (lol) then apparently started verbally abusing our coaching staff.

Right, I've calmed down a bit now.

First things first, we were very poor today and I'd go as far as saying that was up there with the worst performances of last season. Having said that, we had a virtual reserve team out for much of it. Pope hasn't started hardly any games this season and I think that was Cullens first start too.

It's unsurprising therefore that Mansfield with a far bigger budget than ourselves and many less injuries, had the better of it. They won most second balls and put some dangerous stuff into the box. That being said, I only remember Brown making one save 1st half.

Once Montano went off injured we had no out ball and it was so one paced that it was easy for Mansfield to pick us off and attack with purpose.

On to the referee... I learnt that he was a 26 year old in his first season in the league. Why are they using us as guinea pigs? He was massively inconsistent, I. E. One of our players got booked for kicking the ball away, and Mansfield did it about 4 times with no punishment.

The penalty was a joke. No other referee would have given it. What was Legge meant to do? Crazy decision. He then completely lost control and didn't have a clue what decisions he was making. I even thought our corner that led to the equaliser was dodgy.

Finally, Mansfield players. Dear me you'd think they'd be a little more humble after a shit start to the season. Who does Bishop think he is? He's a mainly lower league journeyman who was shit last season and again today but then proceeds to wind the crowd up at any opportunity. That moment when he went down second half like he was dying and then got up was clearly cheating. What a prick. The other goader was the number 20, goading the bycars end after the penalty. Come on mate, you're a shit footballer in a terrible league, don't act like the big man. I would loved to have seen his face when we equalised the little prick.

I was pleased with the point in the end, not only because we were so poor but because the gamesmanship that we've faced (again) deserves nothing. We do very little of it, but see it every week from opposition.

You've got Tom fucking Pope mate and you're getting ya knickers in a twist over players trying to wind a crowd up.

Why don't you try abit of this gamesmanship and you might finish higher than 20th in this shite league

Pope has a go at his own team and moans at the ref about the constant fouls given against him when it is he who is being fouled, but he doesn't play the referee and he doesn't cheat. As honest a player as you'll find. I've never seen him dive or pretend to be injured.

Why should cheating prosper? I'd prefer to be further up the league without it. The worst thing is that some of these teams don't need the gamesmanship as they're good enough to win without.

Tom Pope doesn’t cheat, his Dad would probably belt him for it! He sees diving a sign of weakness.

Hahahaha. Have a day off pal.

We’re not talking about players playing the referee and being a nuisance. Riling up the crowd etc.. Players like Kevin Ellison are a perfect example of how to do it professionally. Bishop was downright cheating. Gibbons with an absolutely sublime crunching tackle and he couldn’t take it like a little teenager would react, then proceeded to try and con the referee into stopping play. It’s pathetic and embarrassing, especially from a vastly experienced player. It’s what you’d expect off Premiership loanees.

Anyway, enjoy bottling yet another moneybags promotion attempt.

He certainly likes to “trip easily” if he doesn’t dive. That said we’ve got Danny rose who’s terrible for it - and it actually frustrates the hell out of me in honesty.

Never seen him trip easy, he doesn’t run to be tripped for a start as he has zero pace! He gets wrestled a lot and usually gets given against him regardless but that’s the same for most target men like Hanson or Crouch.

Weird decision for the penalty. I can sort of see why he’s given it but the reaction to the collision is basically a weird dive/jump. Slowed down it looks very weird and quite funny actually.

To get a point with a few players missing is ideal.

I said from where we were that it didn’t look a penalty and the lad couldn’t really move out of his way. On highlights it looks exactly that. I’d be more inclined to say no penalty as he doesn’t move

Could make a few funny gifs with that dive, looks like Legge is picking him up with some weird super power.

He was a beast despite the poor performances he stood out again. Apparently he’s watched a Ronaldo documentary this week so tried the over head. Would of been a cult moment had that gone in!

He came on Twitter saying he’d waiting a couple of hours to calm down before pretty much ranting about Rose in a comment back to a fan!

Never got why Cambridge let him go!

Mansfield were the better team. It looked like every ball they put into the box would lead to a goal but luckily Legge/Smith had a great game overall.

The kicking the ball away after every stoppage was industrial. Quite clearly pre-meditated which is what rankled me. After the penalty was scored they managed to kick the ball away from the half way line 3 times during the melee with Legge/Rose. The ref and linesman saw them doing it multiple times and there was 5-6 offenders who went completely unpunished. There definitely was some justice in us scoring so late considering we wouldn't have played that much stoppage time but for the cheating.

Bishop, as mentioned was diving and feigning injury. It was embarrassing and one of the most disgusting things I've ever seen at Vale park is half of his team mates high fiving him after one of his successful dives. Literally congratulating a nearly 40 year old man on his ability to play act/cheat in a game of football.

They were bad, it was up there with a Stevenage performance in terms of intent to cheat.

Mentioning Tom Pope in the same vein is mental.

The ref was atrocious and completely lost what little control he had after the penalty. That being said, for me although it's soft as fuck I actually think I'd want a penalty the other way round. The striker bought it completely but Legge was nowhere near the ball.

The ref gave a free kick to Mansfield for This

That really is awful and I can sympathise with Vale after watching the highlights, especially after we were shithoused by Cambridge and their ref last week. The refs are ruining it for us lower league clubs every week. Time to sort it out and employ people who are actually capable.

Vale warning the ref before KO about an opposition player's tendency to dive is a form of cheating as well. Just saying like.

Not really, entitled to ask him to watch for it if we feel it’s a problem.

I didn't go mate so can't comment on the Bishop incident but for me after seeing the highlights you can't complain about the pen. Looks as though he body checks him for me. Every striker in professional football will go down there. Soft maybe, dive no

What’s Legge meant to do? Evaporate? If you look at it slowed down he actually jumps into Legge (impacted him with his back) and simulates it.

There is absolutely nothing Legge can do to get out the way and Rose goes into him and doesn’t follow or attempt to follow the ball.

No offence to Port Vale and best of luck under the new owners but Saturday shown how wank we are not coming away with a win even with a decent performance.

Non taken, that was largely a second string Vale side aside from the defence, our first XI would have been a completely different proposition based on the season so far (and been allowed to play the system we are best at), I am shocked we even managed two goals considering nearly all our attacking options were on the treatment table!

For once we've got some retribution for some very obvious time wasting from the opposition. Refs really need to crack on it, Pope kicked the ball away once in frustration and got a booking, I lost count of how many times it happened afterwards but not even a word was had? Baffling.

That aside we were lucky. Due to injuries in key positions we couldn't play our usual formation, which prevented us from playing our usual pressing game. Two in the centre of midfield just doesn't work and that was evident here, I just hope everyone see's that now and drops this ridiculous notion that we have to play 442.

I felt for poor Jake Taylor in a 2 man midfield on his second league start completely overrun.

I don't think many Vale fans apart from the most blinkered would argue that you bossed the game and should of won.
As someone else said we were threadbare, last week we made 3 substitutions by the 32nd minute. All 3 were missing along with having to make another sub after 15 mins versus yourselves.
It's that bad that Danny Pugh who retired last season has been on the bench for 2 games.
Injury and suspension are part and parcel so don't think I am making excuses.
Just offering a reason why we were so poor.
Our first eleven is a huge improvement on last year and have played very well at times.
On the other hand our squad strength is woeful, just a numbers game with poor bench fillers.
Mansfield didn't come across as a team in crisis but I'd of taken a point at home to the bottom side given our team.
