i will start this by saying I have never seen Notts win at Vale in 5 trips but I am not going so that's a good omen right off the bat.

Notts still haven't sorted out their defence and quite happily will give the opposition a goal or two but hope to score more, just 1 goal from the strikers so far but goals from everywhere else and Grant has continued where he left off last season.

Vale have stuttered since rejoining the basement so Notts have to look to continue that problematic start for them. I fear a defeat though despite my absence

2-1 to Vale

Vale have had a tough start. If Notts score early on it could put a lot of pressure on the players from the home fans... Whoever scores first in this division usually takes at least a point anyway.

I'd like to think we can get something from this. Would be happy not to lose. Stead will lumber around for 60 mins again. Probably still won't hit a cows arse with a banjo.... Big plus for vale is that we do concede goals, in twos at the moment

Have you still got half a squad of our ex players?

I'll miss this as I'm in Ibiza (un)fortunately. However I have a sneaky feeling we can get a win in this.

Dickinson never plays. He's just not very good.

O'Connor who can be very good, just never really arsed is out injured for the season I think.

Edit: Dan Jones is a regular starter, Duffy is captain

Miss this as in Crete... although may try and get in on that Ifollow if the wifi is good enough (probably wont be mind).

Expecting a couple of new faces for Saturday but looks like Lainton will be back from injury which would be a huge boost for us. 4-4-2 is the way to go and if we perform as well as we did when we changed formation with only 10 men against Crewe then we have a chance, we looked like we had finally started to gel.

Our second string got a morale boosting result last night against an Oldham side with only one change so hopefully confidence will start to return.

Be a tough one this though, I expect Notts County to be stronger than Crewe and probably in the Wycombe bracket of opposition and be fairly physical and organised. In the past they've come to VP and kicked us a fair bit but don't know if they are still like that under Nolan as we haven't met for three years.

Should be a decent game and one we need to win. I expect us to climb the table soon enough as we gel and settle in with a whole new squad and Worrall seems a very good acquisition, may get worse before it gets better with County followed by daunting trips to Coventry and big spenders Luton but a result here would go a long way to recovering.

Stuck me neck out writing the pre-season preview for our fanzine and said that Vale would be dreadful this season to much mockery, so I am delighted with their start! :D

Can't see this being very pretty knowing the two managers - we're more physical and sturdy under Nolan than we ever have been in recent years, apart from that brief couple of months under Derry. Hopefully Grant can be the one bit of genuine class on the pitch yet again and nick us three points.

Hopefully take a few but we never seem to travel well to Vale, always seem to have an extra few hundred at Crewe for some reason.

Think this is unfair too. Put aside Coventry when Dan Jones simply got roasted by Jodi Jones for all three goals and the defence have basically been blameless for the other concessions:-

- Wycombe scored two absolute screamers
- Accrington's first was a mistake by Ameobi coming back to defend a set piece.
- Their equaliser was because Nolan took too long to make a sub and we had no right back on (and Duffy was fouled in the build up)

Think the back four (and Collin) have all performed well so far, they just need a bit of luck and a bit more help from the rest of the team.

Forgot Dan Jones was there too. Will get a tasty welcome I am sure :dis:

We've started poorly but more down to lack of organisation and gelling than anything else.

Some players have shown genuine quality such as Denton, Worrall and Whitfield but we need time with so many new faces... although whether Brown will get the best out of a decent squad seems to be the big dilemma we face at the minute.

I'd go along with that and fully expect that to be the case in this game.

Brown has two major issues right now, firstly and most importantly what is the best team and formation to suit the players he's got (doesn't help we've signed a ridiculous number of players during his spell in charge) and secondly he is completely incapable of reacting to any in game adjustments the opposition make.

For this game I'd suggest focusing on attacking Dan Jones side of the pitch as often as possible. Very good player going forward but not so much at his primary job of defending or at least that was the case when he was with us. Vale may get some joy there.

It depends who's playing in front of him, if it's Terry Hawkridge then he does a great job defensively and allows Jones to get forward without worrying too much, if it's Lewis Alessandra or Jorge Grant then he'll be exposed.

We've got a problem on the other side too with the excellent Matt Tootle suspended. We'll either have to play Nicky Hunt (sigh) or move Elliott Hewitt out of midfield (would be my preference - Rob Milsom should be starting in the centre anyway). Hawkridge can't protect both sides at once.

Dan Jones didn't tackle anything until he viciously assaulted Loft when he was on the floor in training.

Wolves away... 3000 Vale fans, big ground and atmosphere and he pussied out of everything.

Nicky Hunt? Jesus last time he played at Vale Park he got hauled off for Rotherham in the first half as we went 4-0 up in 20 odd minutes destroying him (Well Jennison Myrie-Williams) and being lucky to still be on the pitch.

Please please play him! (Fucker will be like Roberto Carlos now)

Shame Tonge is banned and Pugh injured mind as this game could of been a veterans match up with an average age of 45 between the sides.

Hoping for at least a point from this one. Having said that if we keep conceding two goals a game it's a tall order.
If Vale have a mobile pacey frontline we may struggle, if it's crosses and heading practice , we should be ok.
We are a tall, physical team this season so I'd be surprised if we'll be bullied. Our weakness is a lack of pace, breaking forwards and defending, our centre half pairing are not the most mobile and neither is Stead any more.
A bell weather game for both teams I think, if Vale win, they're up and running, lose and it starts to look like the bottom end of the table is beckoning.
If we win or draw, we remain unbeaten in all competitions,( excluding penalty shootout ) since the first day of the season and you start to hope for a flirtation with the top half of a league table for the first time in half a decade. Lose and its meh, another season of toil.
Based on a purple patch of twenty minutes against Accrington last week, and ridiculous levels of early season optimism 2-1 Notts.

I wouldn't put too much on this game. I'm pretty sure we were flying high well into October last year under Sheridan. It's been an encouraging start for sure but I will judge us after November

I would like to think we can win this, but I don't see where our goals are coming from. Defensively we can take something from the Oldham game in midweek, and hopefully keep a clean sheet.

I'll stick my neck out and hope we can scrape a 1-0 win.

Yeah bit odd as we started with 6 goals in 3 games and 0 in the next 3 despite Pope actually dominating Crewe which he hadn't the first games!

How the fuck can you dominate somebody with one header on target in 90 minutes. You need to drop the obsession, you lost fair and square.

Probably no obsession, he did win a large number of aerial duals. The problem was they were all 40 yards from goal with his back to it, and no one near him to follow the flick ons or knock downs. Just because it happened to be against you means diddly squat.

Pope dominated the aerial dual winning about 90% of his headers what's obsessive about that? I didn't say they were headers at goal at any point?

Hard one to call, Notts threw away a chance ( albeit overnight ) to go top of the league and we huffed and puffed about with 10 men.
Feel we have to score first , the natives are restless and atmosphere pretty toxic at the moment.
Welcome back Dicko, Duffy and Oaky though i think the latter is injured.
As for Jones you are a verminous snake and a coward of a man and also as a player.

Huge boost than Lainton returns in goal as Hornby has been dicey but again a clueless team selection. Four centre halves play across the back with Denton who's been superb on the bench so a LB and RB on the bench!!!

Seems to be one up front again clearly failing to learn the lessons of last week. 4-4 fucking 2! So we will see Pope dominate in the air with no one around him to feed off it again. Notts will go 1-0 up we will change it when too late game over.

Jon Stead could lose both legs in a horrible accident and Kev Nolan would still name him in the team the following Saturday
