Jon Stead could lose both legs in a horrible accident and Kev Nolan would still name him in the team the following Saturday

He could lose both legs and still help you beat that collosal mess Brown has fielded this afternoon.

Unless there are any injuries that selection in both fullback positions is just completely senseless. Of course it is par for the course with Brown. The man just does not learn, I accept he is new to management but some sign he is learning from his mistakes would be welcome.

I think people need to accept this is going to be one long hard season for us.

Same mistakes as last season only the players are British this time.

Huge squad, unbalanced and just making five, six or seven changes game to game isn't going to gel us as a side at all.

Nice to still be in a game at half time for once!

At least we are still level but this sounds like an utterly horrific game to watch. Notts don't sound any better but we're at home you'd think the onus would be on us to try and force the issue.

Edit - And less than 4000 home fans chose to show up today. Tells you all you need to know about where we are at. People are not daft.

1-0 down again. Brown out! Another total gift of a defeat.

Finally we go back to two up front and our top scorer comes on.

A team named with four centrebacks across the defence and a load of wingers across the midfield with just Pope up front. Who'd have thought that would fail? Certainly not the tactical genius that is Michael Brown.

I know it's only the first week of September but as things stand we are bottom. Does anyone really think that this guy is going to learn from his mistakes and correct this based on what we've seen since January. If you are then you are a better fan than me.

Has to go. He can't pick a simple XI and is utterly negative. We've been comfy it sounds but as against Crewe waits until we concede before changing it.

Massively worried we will wait and wait to get rid and leave ourselves too much to do.

Its now 6 wins in 31 games for Brown. Surely anyone with that record would be gone at any other club?

1 of them was his first game too! So 5 in 30! Appalling. Needs gone.

I can't see it happening just yet.

How long do we wait? If we get cut adrift? There is enough in the squad to easily finish top half with an average manager... tactically he's miles off capable. The darkest chapter could be unfolding here if we don't act fast. We are a complete shambles. Outplay Crewe with ten men going two up front second half so goes one up front which didn't work today... plays the following today:

GK
CB
CB
CB
CB
Winger
Winger
Central midfielder
Winger
Winger
Striker

You have a right back promoted with Bolton last season on the bench and arguably one of our top performers a left back on the bench... along with or our top scorer.

Lainton
Wilson
Smith
Davis
Denton

Whitfield
Worrall
Middleton
Harness

Pope
Turner

Not hard to pick a decent league two capable XI today from who was available.

Sounds like the crowd finally reacted at the end and the pressure needs to mount. This isn't acceptable for this football club. The nightmare of Glover was bad enough this is worse!

A welcome three points but it sounded pretty poor fair on the radio.
Still, we are hard to beat it seems and grit takes you quite a long way in Div 2.

The frustrating thing is that there is a top 7 team somewhere in our squad, but while we have a bottom 4 manager its going to the same hopeless tactics every week.

Fantastic to get the 3 points. I don't care if we are shit as long as we win. I don't think Brown will survive for long unless he's paid a bucket load and paying him off will be too much. 18 signings is a hell of a lot to get gelled and working together. Will be a tough season for Vale.

Great start for Notts. Hope we can keep the momentum up

He's survived about 8 months too long as it is!

Got to say Brown with that comment of "5 points off the playoffs" is some pretty impressive trolling on his part. Sounds like he's trying to convince himself as well in saying he thought we played well.

Apparently Barnett is back next week. Can't wait to see Brown stick him on the wing and Pope up front on his own still...

Barnett won't be anywhere near fit as he missed alot of preseason but at least it will be good have an experienced striker available who can score goals. Overall though with him in charge we are going down and that will upset people alot people who have been going for 20 years 50 years ECT. The squad is top half if the right team tactics ect are played but there not. We have lost 5 home games in a row for the first time in 19 years and failed to score in 9 of our last 12 games.

But we are only five points from the play offs and we should of been out of sight before their goal as anyone could see 'quote M Brown'

Doesn't fucking matter if you don't win the game as it's a results business! He has a 19% win ratio... any Vale manager of more than a couple of games got a worse one?

That was a terrible game, whereas Wycombe deserved to win, crewe had the better chances, Notts did fuck all, they were as bad as us if not worse.
Still they managed to beat us, it really isn't looking good, I know it's only just September but bloody hell, how much longer before we look even capable of looking vaguely like a football team.
I've said the bloke needs time, but, dropping Denton, playing 1 up top (again) when has it ever worked???!!!
Worrall is the ONLY bright spark in this team.
It's grim, very grim.

Doesn't have to be Grim though if we get the right man in capable of basic football management. That's what's so infuriating.

For me he should of gone after Coventry away last season where we just didn't turn up, played Reg up front on his own and feebly lost to the worst side at the time before repeating the feat at Chesterfield. These were huge huge games and we didn't turn up, didn't look interested and cost us our league one status. If he couldn't get us up for those games he wasn't the right man.

Didn't go today but by all accounts I've read and followed County were very poor, Crewe were average at best on the day... thought Wycombe looked decent to be fair but we were diabolical as for Chesterfield again they were on the ropes until we gift them a lead and collapsed so we are losing games where we should be doing much better. Problem is if we are losing these type of games what will happen when we actually meet one of the top sides in the division like Luton in ten days... doesn't bode well at all. Probably play 10-0-0 though!
