Bolton were odd that season, they should of just turned up and won that division at a canter, especially considering the other 3 promoted sides weren't fancied pre season and smaller budgeted sides even for this level.

We hit them for 6 away in the middle of a spell of only 3 wins in 25 for us and Gilks in goal was probably their man of the match!... sadly no fans got to be there for it. Surprised Evatt survived that though.

He's like teflon Ian Evatt. Survived an awful lot of embarrassing defeats...

That Accrington 'keeper was woeful, it looked like he was playing above three leagues higher than he should be.

Terrible game aside from the final minutes. Not sure what the melee was about at the end? The camera was on the crowd at the start of it.

I'm not saying their world beaters and admittedly I don't know much about their defenders but the likes of Jack Payne, Teddy Bishop, Harry Anderson, Anthony Scully, Owura Edwards and Lyle Taylor under the Cowleys are better than 21st in L2.

Writing that out though, it does read like a list of players that were good a few years ago and perhaps not now. Throw the likes of Woodyard and Hopper in and it does maybe feel like the Cowleys are getting the band back together once again. Seems like their book of contacts isn't too big.
The issue straight away with those lot are injuries.

Anderson was always available for us but hasn't played in consistent spells for since he left us about four years ago. Scully has hardly played in three years since he left us. You can't rely on Bishop to string a run of games together either as we know. I'm assuming Hopper is leading the line but he's way past his best and he's another one who constantly picks up niggles.

Payne is good at looking busy and involved, starts well wherever he goes, but his output it pretty minimal for the position he plays.

EDIT - I thought he'd be getting a tune out of Colchester a bit more than currently but I'm not sure what the state of their squad was like. Given their finishes, I'm suspecting it'll take another two or three transfer windows to flush the old squad out.

Colchester seem to have been circling the plug hole for years now, since Covid they always seem to finish 20-22nd.

If Morecambe beat Swindon which is entirely possible that will really throw the cat amongst the pigeons down there.

Always found it nuts they sacked McGreal for making the playoffs and McGreal hasn't had another opportunity (bar a week in charge of Swindon) since. The last four seasons they've been abysmal with no sign of an upturn in prospects or form. Doesn't matter whose in charge, you just can't polish a turd.

I'm not having this - we may not have been expected to win the division, but we'd just made the playoffs of the Covid shortened season and I was the most bullish I've ever been about us going up automatically in 20/21. The "experts" might not have expected much from us, but we certainly did.

As for last night, it is criminal that a goalkeeper is no longer taught to catch a bloody football. They're just taught to punch, punch, punch. A competent keeper catches that free-kick with ease and Accy come away with a 2-0 win.

Cracking equaliser though.

The problem was, he dropped the ball numerous times whilst trying to catch it, so his confidence was shot. Hence the punch.

I can't get over how bad he was. Kind of feel sorry for him, he must have been so embarrassed. No idea how he came through the England youth setup.

I've not watched tonight, but are we talking of a worst performance than Jaaskalienan vs Plymouth????
Good question. I think it was perhaps worse. At one point he nearly dropped the ball into his net after it very gently looped straight at him.

Maybe not but no one expected Bolton not to waltz that league and they should of done really, losing 13 games in L2 for a so called giant was poor and only just scraped in past Morecambe to the top 3. Evatt did the bare minimum that season. League On granted is more complicated as for example you've had Sunderland, Derby, Ipswich spending big, Sheff Wed's etc so is a lot of competition top end for them of similar sized fallen giants. Sheff Wednesday for example got 96 points in our first season up there and it wasn't enough for the Auto's which is madness.

They'll string some form together in late March, early April and stay up. It's all they ever do.

I see Ian Holloway has stated Swindon's poor form is down to the training centre being haunted.

Yep three 1-0 or 2-1 wins in a row to pull them away from danger, rinse and repeat every season.

Colchester at home for us under the Cowley’s will be ugly, they will come to spoil the game and if we don’t get ahead early it could end up being a dreadful game with them nicking an undeserved 1-0 win.

How can that game be so bad, yet so good at the same time? 2 incredible strikes, a late comeback. Big concerns for both teams though, Wimbledon needed a miracle to come from 2-0 at home, whilst Accrington throwing away such a comfortable position raises questions, especially over Crellin, who looked hopeless.

We did it and it did us no harm?

He came out of our game basically saying how he'd watched us get torn apart by AFC but he had no idea how to play against us because he'd never seen that system before... like we don't play the same formation we have done since MW was manager.

I like him as a character but as a manager of my team I'd be very concerned with some of the stuff he comes out with.

Heavy snow forecast for Bradford on Saturday morning followed by rain in the afternoon. I would say our match could be at risk of postponement.

How will that affect your pitch going forwards? You're not exactly known for a flowing green carpet over winter normally...

Thomas Kirk the referee for the game with Vale. In 23 years of going I have only ever known the club to make one official complaint against a referee and it was this idiot for his shambolic display at the Salford away game last season. It was also discovered in the aftermath he had links to Salford City, even attending their playoff final as a Salford fan!

Was responsible for chalking our perfectly legitimate goal off, letting Salford restart the play after a very delayed offside which, of course, meant half our team were celebrating in the opposite corner and they immediately scored from it.

I didn't agree with our fans doxing him and sending him abusive phone calls at all when these Salford links were found in the aftermath. But surely the FA would have an ounce of common sense to make sure both ref and club avoided each other after what happened?

Can't believe the 1st time they've appointed him to us since the Salford game is this game. Such a big game that tensions are going to be high anyway, it's a recipe for disaster.

He did our game with Wrexham at the weekend. Wrexham fans found out before the game he's from Wilmslow so they made a bit of a song and dance of it with it being so close to Stockport.

He then tried to prove his lack of bias by only booking our players in the first half. I thought his decision making in general wasn't that bad actually, he was very hot on people stealing yards from a throw in or free kick which bugs me so I was quite impressed with that.

We've had him twice before - a 2-1 defeat at Carlisle on NYD last season, and a 0-1 win at Cambridge the season before.

Ironically, he was fourth official in our Carabao Cup meeting last season.

If the game had been Saturday you would probably be right. But Sunday and Monday are fairly warm and mainly dry.

Have to wait and see on that one. A lot was spent on the pitch in summer. Last year it was fine until we played a silly cup game while the grass was freezing and that killed of the green growth which takes time to grow back. Tuesday, we played another silly cup game in similar conditions. Up until now, the pitch has been fine and better than a lot in the division, certainly better than the Colchester pitch we played on at weekend. We live in hope. If it deteriorates again, it will affect teams like Dons more than us.
