End of this coming season. Will be sad to see Griffin Park go, but we need the improved finances from the new ground. It’s a big shame we’ve had to scale back from 25k to 17.5k as we can’t afford the building works for 25k anymore

That capacity listing does bring home how much of a giant leap we just made. Gulp. Until last season we've pretty much been the big boy scalp everyone wanted. We're now the hair clippings on the floor

I remember the days where we used to get double the fans through the gates than anyone else in the division as well as outnumbering the home support at away games 100s of miles away.

We’re now in the land of big swinging dicks...

That's quite a drop. How did they get their figures so wrong? Seems odd that you would go through the trouble of a new stadium and it still be smaller than our rusty old stadium. I know you'll host other events there but still.

They didn’t get the figures wrong, the housing market + Brexit have just meant that they’re willing to sink less risk into it than they were before (we’re likely to get less for the housing developments than we were before)

Wise move I'd say, your never going to fill a 25k stadium in all honesty even in the premiership if you got there so 17.5k makes much more sense.

I think they would be close, maybe not now but if they carry on as they are they will soon have more going. Plus, new stadiums always bring in new fans as I am sure there are loads of Brentford fans/visitors who have been once or dislike going due to a lack of facilities.

Maybe a 5k increase is enough but if 2k of that is additional in the away end then they might be selling themselves short.

They wouldn't have to give any more to away fans than they do now in a 17.5k ground, they dont sell out any game now do they? I'd say 17.5k is enough for a club like brentford.

Think they sold out one game this season. 4 gates of over 11k vs us, Derby, West Brom and QPR but only Derby sold out by the looks of things.

I thought I read somewhere that they are giving out 3k but can't remember where I saw that (if I did actually see it).

They don't sell out but I am sure that's more to do with restricted views, poor facilities etc. We'll see but I think they may have limited their potential a bit.

Stating club capacity as a guide to a teams place in a league is bollocks...
It's the percentage of Home supporters in their ends that is more significant...
Atmosphere wise you're right, but in terms of financially, (which unfortunately now is the important thing) we get on average 23k in a realistically now 34k stadium. You get maybe 10k in total (nearly sold out) we have around 20k season ticket holders, in purely monteary terms it obviously puts you at a huge disadvantage not just with us but with most Championship clubs.
I'm not saying you cant/won't compete but financially it is difficult.
Personally I will miss both Griffin Park and the "shithole" that is Kenilworth Road, proper real old school grounds.

Welcome back Charlton, another day piss up in the smoke. Have always liked them as a club too.

Plenty of good away days next season, already looking forward to it.
