Thought that was terrible, TBH.

Its derivativeness really bothered me. I don't know why, exactly. There just seemed something rather conceited and false and sophomoric about the whole thing – like it fancied (and paraded) itself as this bold, new, exciting and original work when it was actually little more than a sloppily stitched together patchwork quilt of ideas/tropes taken from much better films/shows (Twin Peaks, Fargo, Cronenberg body horror, Nordic Noir, etc.).

It was curiously empty, too. I didn't care about any of the characters. I wasn't at all invested in the story.

Anyway, going to start Hannibal tonight. Had no intention of watching this (as the idea reeks of pointless and lazy cash-in), but enough people have pestered me into thinking it might be something better.

I went into this with the same reservations but ended up loving it, Mads Mikkelsen is brilliant as Lecter.

Good start to Louie season 5. Such a brilliantly unique show.

Just finished Fortitude. Really shit after the hype.
Was a bit disappointed with it as well tbh, it started off pretty well also. The wee Spanish dame is a right cutie though! :D

It feels a bit like a TV version of the podcast Serial. Really enjoying it so far, though I expected to, what with it being a HBO series.

Started on Daredevil now. Just finished episode 2, it's pretty good. In fact, episode 2 was fantastic. Loved the ending fight sequence, reminded me a lot of that scene from Oldboy... narrow corridor, lots of fighting in one shot. Also, I love how it totally looked as if it was going to go down the "opening shows he's beaten up" and then do a shitty "24 hours earlier" thing (which I HATE in TV shows) but didn't actually do that.

That scene was great! Oaf, you'll love it. There are a few issues but overall I thought it was great. I thought Cox was a great Daredevil and the way they made Fisk feel like an actual person with emotions, fantastic. Makes me eagerly anticipate AKA Jessica Jones!

Macclesfield Town/Manchester City. It's complicated.
The wife's got BGT on... Holy hell it's abject shite.

Want to get through? Sob story and a passable 'Somewhere over the Rainbow' and you're there with full on sentimental background music.

Yes! I've watched about 10 episodes so far and I'm loving Kingpin. Making him really emotional, come across as cautious depending on who he's with and ruthless with others is fascinating to watch. Will hopefully watch the last few eps over the next few days, it's a brilliant season

Finished the first season of Turn: Washington's Spies and watched the first two episodes of season 2. Gotta say I'm loving it, quite a good watch and a welcome show covering the the American revolution. Jamie Bell and co do a great job and even though it gets derailed occasionally with the love triangle type bollocks on the whole it's pretty addictive.

Particularly loving Samuel Roukin's turn (pun well and truly intended) as John Graves Simcoe, which although massively OTT and a complete bastardization of his legacy is utterly compelling and on a par with Iwan Rheon's portrayal of Ramsay in GoT.

Also started season 6 of Justified. Just the one episode in so far but.....

Dewey

Daredevil to get a second season! YES!!

It'll be interesting how that works out. The plan was to release Daredevil, Jessica Jones and Luke Cage one after the other then have a 'defenders' season - so a Daredevil season 2 somewhat scuppers those plans if it's to be released in between. I'm sure they envisaged people demanding a second season though.

I'm currently watching fringe, I've been meaning to get around to watching it for years. Only half way through the first season and I'm loving it so far.

So, after watching two series in five days, I have to grudgingly concede that Hannibal is actually pretty good. Intrigued to see where they go with it, i.e. whether it's going to remain essentially a Red Dragon prequel (with bits from the Harris books worked in) or whether they'll try and work in Dragon and Lambs stuff (Dolarhyde, Clarice, Buffalo Bill) in too.

Mads is inspired casting. Michael Pitt (such an underrated actor) is possibly even better as Verger. And, although Freddie Lounds is absolutely not supposed to look like this...

... I'll probably get over it.

Just watched last weeks' Gold Rush.
I love the relationship Gene has with Parker, its one of respect mixed with master and apprentice.

Also glad the fact he found another pay streak, he is much more calculated than Todd.

I hope he buys some ground for next season.

Safe House on ITV, a very good drama.
Did Chris Eccleston die in it? He dies in the first episode of everything he does that guy, or never hangs around long!

Last night was the 2nd episode of 4 and as he's the main character i imagine will be in it to the very end. Not the best role he's played but he puts in a good performance to be fair.
