That's deep fried corned beef, right? I've never had it, but I'd like to try one
Aye, you should.

This thread made me go out to the chippy. Chips, jumbo sausage & curry sauce. Sadly they don't do rissoles in Salford.

My dog would like to thank the participants of this thread for the walk.

Curry sauce is essential with chip shop chips, as is salt and mayo.
Ketchup and salt for any other chips/ wedges.

salt, pepper and vinegar. less is more. chips are like a good steak, if they're done well u shouldn't smother it in other stuff. you should taste the flavour, so only a light sprinkling of less intrusive flavours is the way ya bish

No chippy round here does gravy which is a heinous crime, so normally just salt and vinegar. Chips and gravy is the one though. Cheesy chips are good but is cheese a condiment?!

A single unitary authority for urban Dorset
If it's just chips on their own, then Mayo.

If we're talking sausage or fish or anything with it, then ketchup.

Gravy belongs on roast meat.

Just lots of salt and vinegar, why put sauce on chips you only taste the sauce?

As opposed to what? Chips don't really taste of anything, which is why they're bland and pretty shit without at least some salt. It's the combination of the chips and the condiment which is the killer.

That's why i put loads of salt and vinegar on my chips. In a chippie in Wells the fella has a salt shaker in both hands and does a figure of eight motion to make sure everything is covered then does the same with vinegar, just how chips should be served.

The most important question hasn't been asked in this thread yet:-

Why does the salt and vinegar in a chippy taste different (and 10x nicer) than what you have at home. Do they do something to them? Or am I imagining it?

You're 100% right. It also seems so much better when they put it on themselves rather than letting you do it.
