The most important question hasn't been asked in this thread yet:-

Why does the salt and vinegar in a chippy taste different (and 10x nicer) than what you have at home. Do they do something to them? Or am I imagining it?

It might be that it has time to soak into the chips, and the salt dissolves with the vinegar.

Nah. It's the temperature of the chips when the vinegar is lashed over em. Combines to create excellence.

Favourites include Perinaise or Sriracha. Gravy and cheese is amazing too, especially drunk

There's a spice called Chaat Masaala which is fucking fantastic on chips, had it at a very good Indian restaurant and I'm now converted.

When I'm pissed, nothing beats cheesy chips with 'burger sauce', whatever the fuck that is. Mayo and relish or something probably.

On oven chips, salt only, or sometimes some mayo at the side. On chippie chips, salt and malt vinegar - cannot beat it. :D

It doesn't. For some inexplicable reason you just think it does.
Perhaps you sentimentality get swept up in the moment of it all and that clouds your judgments.
I mean let's face it your average chippy isn't going to be using premium salt and vinegar is it?

I didn't say it was premium, I said it tasted different and better. And it does.
