everyone grows up apart from ian and gets lives man all the original OG's from TFF gotta be like late 20's or 30's by now who has got time for football forums in this day an age I dont even like the footie anymore

The comedy with the giveaway generating "clicks" on fucking twitter or facebook but not generating new active members.

Few points.

1) If someone deletes almost 45,000 posts they are going to get banned, regardless. Restoration took but a few minutes and was 'sorted' within an hour or so.

2) TPP has been banned for a month as far as I can see for trolling, nothing to do with me but that's on the Mod logs. Again, clearly there's been an issue there people aren't just banned for fun.

3) The giveaway boosted our social media following by thousands, members did sign up but very few stayed active. Forums are a little bit of an ancient deal these days with social media and the blog market absolutely saturated. The aim was to raise attention and do something 'good' - which was achieved.

4) All is depressing here at the moment? Why? There's a couple of games running, the Mod team has been slowly switched around. A current affairs mod is being appointed today. The website is running with no issue, at full speed and traffic is now 30-40% up on where it was 6 or so months back. For sure a few regulars have left, that's the nature of any forum - people come and go.

People need to adopt a bit of a laid back approach. It's an Internet forum. It runs on auto-pilot for all but 95% of the time. Get up, pop online, have a laugh in the shout box, post in a few threads, catch up on threads, then log off and enjoy the rest of your day. Said few people are being all a bit 'intense' about things.

There is no crisis, or close down/turn off TFF style anything like on the horizon and never will be. Most posters are here and still active, new sign ups are happening and the day to day running is getting back to being as it was the day we opened.

(None of that second part was aimed at you Dirk just a sweeping statement).

An 'ex' staff member deleted the posts, it was rectified as quickly as possible. Said member is now banned and won't be returning under any circumstances. Another member of the mod/admin team banned TPP. Of course there are rules to be adhered to, they are quite relaxed, it's the said person's discretion if they are going to ban another member.

But yes, overall - this forum is very chilled out, or intended to be so. The only people kicking up a fuss about things and ruining the website for themselves are a small select group of people taking everything far too seriously (whether that applies to TPP being banned and the shoe being on the other foot - that's a fair point).

I wasn't around to see what TPP said to get himself banned but it seems quite tame by all accounts, are you able to divulge the identity of the phantom banner?

I know TPP as a good poster and not someone who trolls here (but I don't read every thread). But I could name you at least 2 persons who are constantly trolling here but maybe they have a "puppy licence" because they don't know it better

I didn't write "All is depressing" but "very depressing" and I mean that we have now several of these threads here. Last summer when I became a member the whole "mood" here was different, more positive. At least that's what I am feeling now...but maybe I am still suffering from my hospital stay

I recently wrote something like 10-12 posts defending the light-touch approach to moderation on this site. No one can read those now. They’re lost along with everything else I’d posted in the last fortnight. Why? Because a 1FF ‘employee’ went rogue and you muppets didn’t have basic mitigation measures (e.g. daily back-ups) in place.

Given this, and the absence of any meaningful apology for the inconvenience caused, some critical comments from the users should be expected. And that’s all PP did, really. He could have made his point more respectfully, but respect is a two-way street. When avoidable fuck-ups and negligence lead to significant data loss and there isn’t the slightest hint of contrition, why should the criticism be respectful? You haven’t earned it.

You say everyone needs to be laid back, but one of the least offensive posters in the entire TFF/1FF community (going back to circa 2005) has just been banned/suspended and you can’t even give a coherent explanation as to why. If you can’t see why that’s a problem then you’ve lost it, mate. Completely lost it. And it’s not good enough to say it’s nothing to do with you. You are part of 1FF Admin and co-own the site. Take some fucking responsibility and sort it out. Quickly.

Apologies for your and the rest of any lost posts. I understand the frustration. Backups had been happening daily and certainly every couple of days prior to the last few months - I would agree that's not best practice and is something that will be rectified from today onwards so this shouldn't be an issue again.

With regards to TPP - that issue has absolutely nothing to do with me and is the decision/perogative of someone else - as is whether they confirm the reasons why. As far as I'm aware, it was to do with trolling. In light of a few points made in your post, I will have a look back through the website and perhaps add some hindsight bans that could have been handled earlier. However, you must also understand that I'm not going to over-rule other people in the staff room and reverse decisions - that can be up to them and the person who is banned at a later date.

So, I apologise you have had to lose posts that you had spent time putting together and you can rest assured some of the points you have made/given will be taken into account. As I say, trying my best here - that's not to say it's perfect by any means but that's all I can do.

Mowgli, a mod, has just said in another thread that the banning of members is down to Admin and not them?

I don’t care that much about the lost content. It’s irritating, but I can chalk it up to a stupid but honest mistake. Appreciate the apology, despite its belated nature.

The PP stuff is just nuts, though. The decision to ban him is absurd – patently fucking absurd – regardless of who made it. And you MUST know who is responsible. If it was one of your moderators, you need to override them and take away their mod powers. Anyone dumb enough to ban/suspend PP for “trolling” is unfit for the job.

If, as I suspect, you’re covering for TR, I advise you have a word and get the decision reversed. Quickly.

Look, I’m trying to do you a favour here. I don’t think you realise how damaging this sort of thing is. Some of the recent arguments, such as the one about moderation in the P&CA forum, can be attributed to different temperaments, preferences, philosophies, etc. In this case, however, it looks like 1FF Admin has just lost the plot.

I don’t expect perfection. Just don’t ban people for completely unjust reasons and then compound the idiocy by telling others to relax about it. Really not that hard.
